What a fantatic holiday. This was our first cruise and my wife and i enjoyed it a lot and would recomned it to anyone. The only down side of it was stopping at cassablanca as with a previous review we did not fell save at all and made a hasty retreat back to the ship to enjoy the rest of the day. Also one of our mattresses had a dip in it but a quick wword with our housekeeper and it was changed that day.
Food was fantastic (even the 3 0clock in the morning after cocktails all night food)
Staff were all very friendly and helpfull.
One other bad thing was paying for dolphin safari tour and not seeing one dolphin but hey its no-ones fault but flippers
Just back from our first cruise...

Just back from our first cruise on Thomson Destiny, what a fantastic ship, crew and itinary. All the good points have already been said and we will certainly be back for some more.
I read some of the negative reviews on this site and went on our cruise with some reservation, but I have to say I do not know what these people expected but from the minute we arrived on the quayside we were treated in a way that made us feel at home and every crew member from The Captain to the guys cleaning tables in the bars and cafes were so curtious and helpful.
We had an all inclusive drinks package this we found to be a great saving, yes you do have to pay a suplement on certain drinks but these are only a few of the hundreds on offer, the food was amazing 24/7 you could get a choice of well cooked and well presented food any time day or night, we enjoyed the afternoon teas in the Lido, fresh scones with jam and cream, served daily between 1600 and 1700.
Keep up the great work Thomson and thank you for a great holiday.

Just got back after a week on the destiny, This is the 3rd thomson cruise we have been on, the first being the Emerald and the 2nd the celebration which was the best ship. The destiny was very good though, the staff and the entertainment were great, The food as on all the other thomson ships was first class, my only complaint we had with the destiny was the lido buffet area, this was like sitting ouside, very cold and like sitting in a wind tunnel, ok when its sunny but not so good out at sea in the evening and when it rains the tables around the outside cant be sat at as you will get wet. The lighting in this area is cold and the floor is wooden decking and not very inviting, the furniture is just like garden patio furniture
The cabin was small but clean and plenty cupboard space.
We had the all inclusive, we paid for the drinks package and we did save quite a bit as drinks can be a little expensive, you must try the cocktails they are brilliant!.
We were on deck 4 which was good, no engine noise, we did hear that deck 2 and 3 could be very noisy with engine noise and a few of these reviews have said the same.
All in all we enjoyed our stay on the Destiny.
This was our first cruise for my...

This was our first cruise for my husband's 40th birthday. We also took our 3 year old daughter. We were very impressed with the Destiny. Obviously it is an older ship but we found it to be very clean and hospitable. We were on deck 7 in a deluxe cabin which we found to be of a good size and layout. Maddy made friends straight away with our excellent cabin steward Adrian and also Danielle who worked further down the corridor. On the morning of my husband's birthday we returned from breakfast to find that Adrian had left several balloons on the bed and a card wishing my husband a very happy birthday which we thought was a lovely personal touch. I was very sick on the first morning at sea but happily, some tablets sorted that out and by 3.00pm I was back to normal. We found the Seven Seas Restaurant to be well staffed and there was a fantastic choice of food at breakfast. There was also a choice of waiter service for breakfast, though we only used this once as I prefer to serve myself in a morning - usually ravenous! There was a slight misunderstanding the first time we used the restaurant in the evening as we had been only allocated 2 seats instead of 3 but we managed to squash another chair around the table for Maddy. We ate there about 4 times but the rest of the time used the Lido Cafe as often, we simply weren't ready in time for the 6.45 sitting in the Seven Seas due to trips, Maddy's afternoon naps, etc. We found the choice here to be good. There were themed nights such as Indian night (my husbands eyes lit up at this), Oriental Night, etc. It certainly was not cold and windy as other reviewers have described, though they may have gone in early April when the weather perhaps was slightly cooler. We had no need for cardigans or sweaters. There was a covered hot plate stack for the hot food and we felt that although not as hot as we would have liked, it could not be described as lukewarm and therefore, we were not disappointed. Good selection of starters, main courses (about 5 different options), chips/potatoes and veg. About 3 different cold desserts, a hot pudding and custard, cheese and biscuits and fresh fruit for dessert. Obviously, you could go back for more if necessary and the desserts, cheese and fruit are available until the early hours if you fancy a late night nibble. Also at 4.00pm every day in the Lido, the shutters opened to reveal a fantastic display of miniature sandwiches, sausage rolls, slices of cake, scones with jam and cream, cinnamon cakes, etc. Yummy! Lovely with a nice cup of tea. Entertainment - the afternoon quizzes were good on the pool deck although we were on land during most of these. Got down to Bingo about 3 times which was held at 5.30pm every day. There was an evening quiz which started at 8.00pm in the Oklahoma Lounge which we won once. We saw one show in the Can Can Lounge on the last night - Magic of the Musicals which was very good. We didn't see any others because Maddy was usually in bed by then. The Kidzone was fantastic - Maddy loved this. There was only her and another little boy of 3, Sam, who were using it as it wasn't school holidays when we went. This was open either 2 or 3 times a day for 2 hours at a time - great for us, we could sit out in the sun for a while without constantly having to keep an eye out for trouble. They did face painting and took them up to the Lido with their teddies for picnics, there was a rock climbing wall there and plenty of drawing, colouring and model-making. They often had an 8-10pm session too which was good for us as we could go to the quiz and listen to the band in the Oklahoma Lounge or go to the Casino. The duty free shop wasn't that expensive and they often had discount nights such as 10% or 15% off and many items had a permanent 25% discount on them. On the last night at sea I went to the Oceans Beauty Salon and had a facial, make-up and hair-up all for £60 (this was on one of their special offers - 3 treatments for £60) which were advertised twice within the 10 nights we were onboard. We had a trip up to the Bridge and met the Captain. We also found the Cruise News which was slipped under the door each night to be extremely useful and informative letting us know the following days destination news, any special meal nights, the evenings entertainment, kidzone times and any offers from the casino or the beauty parlour. Maddy and Sam particularly liked the band (I think they were called the Fun Band) in the Oklahoma Lounge and had a particularly funfilled evening dancing along by themselves on the dance floor whilst everyone looked on! Special mentions to the staff - Adrian, Daniella, Shamila (in the Oklahoma Lounge), Nang (the wine waiter in the Seven Seas), Bruno and Benny (restaurant staff), although all of the staff fussed over the children and made a great fuss of them which was nice. The only thing I can think of that I would change is the time of the evening quiz. If you are at the 6.45 sitting, we found it a bit rushed to finish dessert and get up to the quiz for 8.00 - move it to 8.15!!! The ports of call we enjoyed and did plenty of walking around, so my worries about piling loads of weight on were unfounded - I lost 5lb. We had an all-inclusive free upgrade on booking and I would recommend this if you can get it free. I think some other reviewer quoted about £210 - I wouldn't pay that much). Any specialty drinks such as Jack Daniels or Southern Comfort are subject to a 0.90p surcharge which was very reasonable. Gin (Gordons, Blue Sapphire, etc), vodka, wine, etc - no extra charge All said, we would definitely cruise again and would travel on this ship again.

What can I say but FANTASTIC. My husband and I have cruised with Celebrity & P & O but thought that Thomson would be a good a good start to show our friends what cruising was like. Ok there are some not too good points, example the size of the cabins, but hey you only sleep in them. The hairdryer was no good, not powerful enough, the leadwirewhich came from the draw was very short therefore it felt that I was trying to dry my hair in the draw, but the plus was that the cabin was clean and comfortable, the bed had a dip in it but I slept like a baby. The noise of the engine did not worry me at all because there was so much to do, day and night, that I was exhausted by the time I went to bed.
Entertainment was superb, much better that the other cruises we have been on and the food and service was every bit as good as well. Was a bit disappointed with Casablanca, my husband and 3 friends walked into town, they did not feel safe so they came back early, infact one elderly man was mugged, Valencia town was 25 minutes drive from the ship, and the queue for the complementary coaches were horrendous. Did not bother just went back to the ship.
Anyway, on the whole it was a fantastic cruise, definately have the All Inclusive again, we had everthing we wanted and I also won on the bingo so Thomson had to pay me to get off the ship. Now looking to book the Caribbean with all our friends.

hi
just got back of the thompson destiny.we quite enjoyed our holiday, but there are quite a few things want looking at. the meals in the seves seas couldent be bettered, the food and the staff was brilliant, but the lido restaurant was a dissapointment the food was ok and hot, but by the time you had sat down it was cold it was a cold area .on the drinks side the cocktails were ok but i couldent recomenned the beer or the lager just like dishwater.thompsons are good with there itinary and information on port of calls, but they let themselves down on the valencia port of call,to many passengers to little transport it was chaotic.ps i forgot to mention the entertainment that is very good.

I've been on a couple of Caribbean cruises, thought me and my girlfriend would try a Med cruise for a change, and found this repositioning cruise, for 10 nights, for £550 each (inclusive of a £50 upgrade [each] to an outside cabin (my g/f wanted to see the sea, see, so we got a porthole)). We took the Unlimited Drinks package (at £210 each) as we both like a drop.
So total cost: £1520.
Was it worth it? Yes, definitely. As previous reviewers have well covered, the ship is dated (although meticulously clean and polished) and our room was a little disappointing (two single beds positioned in an "L" shaped arrangement - a little challenging for our erm, kisses and cuddles).
I'm 39 and my g/f 30; certainly we were the youngest by quite a few years (median age was 65/70 I would suggest). However, the company of young-at-heart travellers isn't a bad thing and in any case soon pally'ed up with a few couples that were a more contempory age.
The service and entertainment were very good we thought; a "happy go lucky" dispostion resonates throughout. Prices were very reasonable: a cocktail (always a double measure at least) cost £2.85. Cocktail of the day £2.15. A can of coke was £1, non-alcoholic cocktails £1.80. Pint of Stella £2.30. Double scotch (with a mixer or dash) £2.30. Not bad really, maybe these were off-peak prices because I've heard of higher.
At no point did I experience a hard sell with drinks, photo purchases etc. Even though we were on the Unlimited Drinks packages our drinks were continuously topped up with no problem.
The food was of a good standard, the shows were entertaining enough.
And we certainly got value out of the Unlimited drinks package: the drinks were "on them" from day 7 onwards :)

Had a nice holiday on board with Emma, Dad and Vivienne.
We had a small inside cabin with no window.
The pool was too small.
There was hardly any other children on board but fortunately I made friends with Betty, a lovely woman in her 60's. We got on marvellous.
Morocco stop off was good, camel rides and a fantastic paradise beach where we swam.
Lanzarote was great too with a superb water slide.
Ship was a little old, been on better but still enjoyed it apart from one day we all felt sick and Emma was extremely ill. The stabilizers aren't up to much on The Destiny.
All in all, not bad.
didnt like the historical sites, rather have stayed in the pool.

We returned 2 weeks ago! I treated my daughter and grandchildren to this holiday.
I have cruised before on more elegant ships.....but I have to say we all enjoyed it immensely. The kids 11 and 13 gave the holiday 11 out of 10! We did not want to go home.
We encountered a force 7 during a 24 hr period which was unplesant but you can't do much about the weather.
The staff were fantastic. The Ship was very clean. Food and entertainment were far in excess of the 3* grade for this ship.
The open air resturant on deck 9 was very chilly at times. I can imagine it is far more comfortable in the hot months!
Overall I can highly recommend this cruise, in fact my brother is going tomorrow!

read the reviews after booking and thought what had i let myself in for.needn't have worried as it was excellent value for £400 for the week.ok the cabins were a bit tired but were clean.entertainment was better than i expected again as this was a low budget cruise.food and area for the buffet style outside on deck was just acceptable with the logistics taken in to account, but the 7 seas restuarant for main dinner was excellent with the food on a par with the more expensive cruise liners we have been on.there was one department where this and the other smaller cruise ships score hand over fist against the bigger/more expensive/more modern ships is the down to earth relaxed ambience created in the 7 seas restuarant by the waiters, for example addressing you by your names each night and the light heardedness by singing and playing instruments to the ladies at the table.anyone who had a celebratory occassion was given special attention.only minus point was that we had 2 days rough seas and these smaller ships do get moved about more than the bigger ones, anyway an injection for £10 soon sorted any sikness out as did tablets the next night.overall as i booked this at last minute and would not have normally booked for this category of ship i am well pleased with the value for money i got.

Myself and my partner have just arrived back off our cruise with Thomson and we had such a fantastic time.
We were on deck 6, and although the cabins are very cosy, there is everything in there which you need.
The cabin was cleaned twice a day by a lovely gentleman named Wint. He was very polite, happy and made sure we always had everything we needed in our cabin.
We particulary enjoyed the animals on our bed every day made out of towels and a chocolate on our pillow every evening.
The food was lovely, the only problem was there is too much of it! You can literally eat for 24 hours if you like, of course we didn't although it is very tempting.
We had ourbreakfast in the Seven Seas, and we usually had lunch on the lido deck and our evening meal back in the Seven Seas.
Our waiters were very charming, Rupert and Ronnie, they took the time out to learn our names and always greeted us with a smile. After dessert all of the waiters put on their own little show complete with singing and dancing!
The entertainment onboard is second to none, the shows are very similar to those you would find in the west end, and the game shows in the Olklahoma lounge were always a giggle.
I would without a doubt recommend Thomson Destiny to anyone of any age. Myself and my partner are only 22 and loved it, we are already planning our next one and we only arrived back yesterday.
The only bad thing i will say is the feeling of still be on the ship, i am still rocking from side to side now as a write this!

My sister and i went on the destiny ship and yes it maybe dated but some hotels you stay in are much older.I would not hesitate to book this ship again if it did the colourful coast tour. The staff were very obliging nothing was too much for them and cabin though a bit small was very clean and we did not stay in it that much.We enjoyed it so much we have booked the celebration next January. The entertainment was very good and the team worked so hard.don't be put off by this OLD ship just go and enjoy yourself.Liz and Brenda.

We have just returned from our cruise and loved it. The food/entertainment/staff were ALL brilliant. Food was 24/7. If you went hungry it would be your own fault. The quality of the meals was fantastic. The entertainment team (Paul) and the entertainers were spectacular. Always a different show on in the Can-Can lounge and you could see they really enjoyed entertaining us. The staff could not do enough for us. From our cleaning lady, Victoriya, to the reception staff, to the waiters (Luis and Ramon)and the wine stewards. They never pressurised us with anything.
They couldn't do enough for us and always with a smile. Some companies could take a leaf out of their book and improve their customer service skills.
The internet was not available all the time as the signal was lost (same as mobile phones) but I was re-imbused at the time. No problems.
You are on a cruise for goodness sake, you are supposed to leave the internet and mobile phones at home and relax.
We found the duty free shop to be cheaper than at the airport.
For example - Superkings 200 - £13.00 onboard and on the aeroplane, Superkings 200 -£17.00. No comparison.
Drinks onboard were £1.85 for brandy & coke and £2.25 for the cocktail of the day, £1.65 for non alcholic cocktail, Tea and coffee available all day FREE.
I personally had no problems with our cabin. More than enough packing space. More than enough room, seeing as you are basically only sleeping, showering and changing in there.
We had a great time and can't wait for them to go to the Caribbean. We would definately go with Thomson Destiny again. Thanks for a Brilliant holiday.

Returned 2 days ago from 7 nts aboard Destiny and what can i say but....SUPERB!! we found no complaints except for maybe the noise in the rear (oklahoma) lounge and poss Clipper Bar but if you spend your holiday moping around the ship listening out for noise and looking for faults you have only yourself to blame!! Ok the ship is dated and in need of a complete overhaul but every 1 of the staff we met from the staff capt down to the young waiters and waitresses worked incredibly hard and ALWAYS with a smile despite working a regular 10-15 hr day 7 days a week!! many of them had no choice as you will find out if you take trouble to stop and chat and not just treat them as slaves to moan to like some ppl we saw!.
anyway the food and entertainment is outstanding and service in the seven seas restaurant is excellent made even better when the waiters start singing and playing guitars...a brilliant friendly atmosphere. The shows in the Can-Can lounge are not to be missed particularly 'Magic of the Musicals' These guys and girls really can sing, dance and act.Top stuff!!.
My wife and I were lucky enough to be invited to dinner with the Staff Captain on the formal night along with only 2 other couples wich was an unbelievable experience starting with a champagne reception after the captains main speech in the can can lounge then dinner where we were waited on by 4 waiters on our select table complimentary photos, tickets for next days tour of the ships bridge, and reserved seating in the Can-Can lounge for that evenings show.
A few people to mention for service over an above our expectations are....Lisa-Jane (social host), Angel (head waiter),Francisco (bar staff) and Elena (our brilliant room maid) also Mike Palmer from the entertainment team....someone sign this guy up cos he is outstanding and belongs on the stage!! Thank you once again to Staff Capt Mr Soulis for an unforgettable night at his table....a nicer guy you could not wish to meet.
All in all an excellent week on board and i would recommend this ship to anyone. Please dont listen to all the moaning whingers who only go on holiday to pick faults and criticise (we met a few!!).Book this ship and cruise...you will love it!!
