Jun 2007, Mr D Chittenden

The Amandeus will endear some and not others.
My wife, who hit 40 while we were there and I had a fine time. We have two kids (7 and 4 at the time) and they loved it.
We have been to Greece many times and the standard of room was as expected. You generally only get enough to get by on in SC in Greece- a bit like camping. But most people really only make some breakfast for a couple of days here and there and then give up! You're on holiday! All you really want is a fridge for your beer, wine, water, milk, etc.
Quite spacious in a one bed. We had a lamp that was dodgy that was replaced on asking. Not a problem. The bathroom used to end up like a flood plain, but so do most.
With reference to an earlier entry saying Katerina and Xaris were ignorant and frosty, and smoked all day round the pool: This makes them sound lazy, and they are not.
They are there (And Nicole) all day and night and Greeks like a smoke when there is a gap. They never smoke over food, or while serving/working. Also if you come on like a grumpy old sod you will not be respected as much as a polite request for action, delivered with a grin, and a bit of Greek. Not so much different to a B&B in Blackpool eh?
You are in Greece. Not Blackpool. If you want English food, weather, people, stress, and then go to Blackpool.
The only surprise we found was that the pictures we had seen has a view over a field with a bit of sea in the background, but now the field has been developed, and the side wall of a great big German/Scandi hotel is there.
This does have a nice mural on it, and you are not overlooked at all, but a little closed in. Katerina said that although the view has gone it is a lot less windy, which used to clear the area of people on windier days. You can find the place on google maps, with a satellite view before it was filled in.
Our kids loved mixing with Nicole's kids, and could never wait to get back 'home'. Nicole is English, Hip and qualified to do Reiki and massage too.
The walk into the harbour is nice. It’s not far at all, but winds down steeply around the nape of the harbour, and could be a struggle with bad legs etc. Don't let it put you off.
The Tavernas on the front (waves lapping, sunsets etc) were actually some of the best I'd been to in Greece, on prime sports etc. (The best are in the mountains or cities) Not really expensive, and good portions, with good house wine. The ones right opposite are great though, v. friendly and a couple have kids playgrounds alongside that are safe and let you relax a bit waiting to dine, med time.
Sissi is a good location for many because it has enough to be getting on with, and all the extras of Malia, Stalis, and Hersonossis are there when you want them.

Jan 2007, Miss E Tott

After returning from a gruelling 2 week holiday in Magaluf, my family and I flew to Crete and stayed at the Amandeus Hotel.
I had the time of my life and didn’t want to leave. The rooms were amazing. Everything seemed brand new.

But the people that made our holiday were Katernina Haris and Nicole. I've never meet such friendly people. They really made us feel at home and we thoroughly enjoyed their company.
We are currently booking our return holiday this year.
Tip: Try Katerina's Spaghetti Bolognese ... It’s amazing!

Good family run apartments. Very clean and spacious. Kind and caring owners. Extremely clean pool.
Slightly away from the busiest part of the town. Still only a 15min walk from the best beach, 'kalermira Kriti'. 30m from a good supermarket. If score was based on accommodation and town alone I would have given it an 8.
Beautiful, picturesque fairly un-spoilt resort. Super restaurants. Clean beaches.
Only downfall... Olympic Reps and the disastrous airport (if you call it one!)
Tip... Don't bother hiring a car unless you plan on driving for more than 2/3 hrs to get somewhere. If you are looking for a fairly peaceful holiday AVOID MALIA, you won't find too many places in the north as pleasant as Sissi.
