Just returned from a stay at the Iberostar Torviscas Playa, half board - room 401, 26/10/11 to 6/10/11. Many of the previous comments had made me a little nervous about going but most of these proved either trivial or unfounded in my opinion. True that the rooms are... more

Recent Holiday
Our latest trip was originally planned to take us to our 'old haunt', the Bouganville. However, with three weeks to go the tour operator contacted us to say that road work outside the hotel was creating significant noise and disruption, so we decided to opt for a late change, back to the Torviscas, where we'd been and enjoyed our last visit there in April this year. At Torviscas we managed to get a room on a lower floor, which suited us. The room was fine and well tended by the maid, although on one day it was forgotten! A quick visit to reception at about 6 p.m. soon sorted the problem, and the room was eventually cleaned. The restaurant was much the same as we'd remembered it. Satisfactory, though not brilliant! Tables were fairly cramped, and food serving area quite small. Went to early sitting once, but was put off by 'rush' for food / places. Quality of food was generally good, and choice was acceptable. Entertainment was also good, with the better acts coming from outside, although the 'animacion' team did provide good entertainment. The pool area was once again very good, with ample spaces and free sunbeds. The pool and Jacuzzi were both great. All in all a good holiday, but not sure if we'd go back to the Torviscas again! However, we did make a couple of visits to the Bouganville, and were extremely impressed with the improvements there. The pool area had been enhanced, and the new eating area alongside the pool was a massive improvement. It seems too that the bulk of entertainment has now been moved to Floor -1 (where it used to be several years ago), leaving the Ground Floor bar more relaxed, with light background music. Truth is, we wished we'd risked the noise outside the Bouganville, and gone there anyway! Never mind, all in all a good two weeks, but some disappointment that we didn't stick with our first choice!
Superb hotel !
My husband and i stayed at the Iberostar Torviscas Playa hotel for fourteen nights with friends and had a fabulous holiday! The hotel is the best we have stayed in for many years, with very high standards throughout. The selection of food was superb and the quality was excellent with a wide variety to suit all tastes. We certainly miss the food since arriving home on 16th September! The staff throughout the hotel were extremely helpful and friendly at all times. Bedrooms were modernly furnished with great air conditioning, which was essential due to the high temperatures. Also a free fridge to keep drinks cold was provided. The rooms were thoroughly cleaned each day by a very pleasant chambermaid, who certainly aimed to please. The hotel management even acknowlegded my husbands birthday by leaving some wine in our room, which we felt was a very nice gesture! Th only fault we found was lack of air conditioning in the reception and entertainment areas and we did document this in our customer satisfaction questionairres. We look forward to returning to this lovely hotel in the near future.
Great Hotel in a fantastic location
Just returned from the Torviscas Playa and we have to say we had a fantastic time. Hotel recently refurbished and is in excellent condition. Rooms spacious comfortable and nicely decorated. We had three beds in our room and there seemed to be plenty of room, which cannot be said for other hotels. Room cleaned everyday with a daily change on towels - maids very pleasant and courteous. General public areas were clean, well maintained and again spacious. pool area and pool were excellant and we had no problems with sunbeds (again a refreshing change). Meals were about the best we have ever experienced with a variety of choices which we are sure would suit most people. Again no problems getting a table in the spacious dining area and the waiters and waitresses were extremely helpfull and polite at all times. Animation team worked overtime to keep everybody happy and put on some first class entertainment in the evenings. The Torviscas Playa is well positioned very close to the beech and a large number of bars and restaurants. (try the cocktail bar on the beech - a bit expensive but you definately got your monies worth) We had a great holiday in a fantastic hotel and would not hesitate in going back (probably next year)
wonderful holiday
read reviews before going to this relaxed friendly hotel & it lived up to and beyond our expectations the staff were friendly while being professional at all times the entertainment staff well what can we say superb hard working & dedicated there shows were second to none well done every one i would recommend this hotel & would hope to return again the only fault we found was there was no air conditioning or fans in the public rooms although a/c in bedrooms rooms were kept spotless as you would expect and a free fridge was supplied what more can we say great holiday thanks to the manager & all the staff for a wonderful stay
Fantastic Holiday
Just returned this morning 11 June 2005 from the Torviscas Playa, absolutely fantastic holiday. I would give this hotel 12 out of 10. Rooms were refurbished, everything brand new, carpets, beds, curtains, furniture etc. Plenty of storage/hangers etc. Food was lovely, plenty of choice for everyone, meat and fish cooked in front of you as you wait. Array of fresh salads, fruit, desserts etc. Spotlessly clean hotel, extremely friendly staff and daytime/evening entertainers. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, from the maintenance man and room maids to the reception staff and waiters. Pool area very relaxing and although people tended to reserve their sunbeds there were plenty to go around within a lovely setting. I am online now booking for next year. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
Hotel Torviscas Playa
We have just returned from the hotel Torviscas Playa and we were very pleased with the refurbished bedrooms. It was our third visit over a period of 14 years and the dining room has been modernised to a high standard. There was a very high standard of food on offer, including an excellent variety of roasted meats and a tempting array of vegetables and chef made gravies/sauces. I would defy anyone not to be delighted with the food. The pool is large and inviting with many areas to sunbathe. To sum up, this is a great hotel in a very accessible location and we would be hard pushed to find better value and having stayed at the Bahia and the Riu Palace, this is equally as good.
Relaxing stay
Excellent holiday. Very good hotel. Quality of accommodation, and service excellent. Very spacious and able to lose yourself during the week we stayed. ? whether this would be so in high season? Quality and choice of meals excellent, dining area can, however, be very busy. Excellent staff who are very efficient and friendly. Animacion team - excellent - work exceptionally long hours and still managed to try and stir enthusiasm with guests - young and old alike! Evening entertainment provided - however this is for one hour only - would have appreciated options for other forms of entertainment after show- eg resident band/disco
Great location.
We were allocated a great room with sea and pool views, large balcony with two sunbeds and table and chairs. Our room had recently been refurbished to a decent standard now plenty of draw and wardrobe space, maid service daily - no complaints whatsoever. Very nice pool area, no pressure this time of year with sunbeds but probably high season it'll be a squeeze. Same with the dining, food we rated as good with variety but dining area will be very busy in high season and maybe uncomfortable with queues for the food. Entertainment, excellent mini club for the kids and decent childrens play area and their own pool, only drawback of the childrens pool is there is no shade on it at all. Two other pools one heated , larger than average. Evening entertainment fairly good some outside acts brought in and other acts performed by the hotels own entertainment team. Found staff to be friendly and helpful and most of all hotel location supurb with plenty of local seafront bars & restaurants closeby. The nightlife area of Veronicas is a good 2 km away certainly not walking distance and probably this hotel isn't suited for those who wish to frequent there, clientele was mixed with families , couples and a lot of older generation guests. Summing up we wouldn't hesitate in going back to the Torviscas Playa or another Iberostar property.
10 years on
My wife and I have been staying at the Torviscas for ten years now and can thoroughly reccomend it to all. Location is great 3 min walk to fanabe beach the best on the island and 2 min to the market twice a week. The pool complex is one of the best for a hotel ive seen, huge and ideal for all ages. Rooms are clean and maid service excellent (watch out for the swans made out of the bath towels). Food is buffet service and of a good standard. All the staff are friendly and helpful, and the entertainment isnt too bad. On the downside the hotel has declined a little between our last two stays points being 1. food can be repetitive after a week. 2.You cant get pay as you veiw films in your room anymore, if you want anything apart from the news in english forget it. 3. Air conditioning is ok in bedrooms but it can get unbearably hot in Public areas in high season as no a/c in them. Drinks are on the dear side as well. But dont let any of this put you off its a great hotel. TIPS>Try AMANDAS bar 2 min down the road for great free entertainment 2 cabarets a night.-Get up early if you want good sunbed positions(they still reserve them).-Money exchange is much better o/s Hotel. Genuine Gold on Market from the cockney guy.-Dont buy the fruit or fake gold on the beach its a rip off. This May were staying in an apartment for the first time just down the road but we will be sneaking into the Torviscas everyday. HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY I KNOW YOULL GO BACK!
First Class Holiday Base
I have just returned from a week at the Torviscas Playa with my sister in law. We used the hotel as a base as we were "flat hunting". The food is superb, especially the fish selection in the evening. The menu rotates on Sundays - watch out for the ton and a half of prawns for your starters!! Breakfast eggs, omlettes and pancakes all cooked freshly for you while you wait. The food is endless and of a very high standard indeed - we would normally have had a couple of meals out in the evening but the food was too good!! Rooms are spacious and spotless as is the hotel. The bar prices though are very pricey but the staff are all exptremely friendly and obliging. The market a couple of minutes walk away at the harbour on Thursdays and Saturdays well worth a visit. Local buses are cheap and good fun. This is a beautiful island well worth exploring and the Torviscas is a superb base to do that. We did not have any children with us but there is a first class Animation Team keeping the sprogs amused and the beach is only a minutes walk away. There is a childrens pool and the heated pool is a constant depth with jaccuzzi. Superb fun and exceptional quality.
