Iberostar Torviscas Playa Reviews
" Just returned from a week at this... "
Submitted By: Mr S LoaderThe only gripe that I have and its only a small one, is that the main pools are a bit deep for younger kids, other than that I can highly recommend this hotel. Location is good in the quieter end of Las Americas, but a taxi to Veronicas is only 4 euros and a walk will take only ten mins.
" I was really looking forward to going... "
Submitted By: Miss E GrahamAs for the hotel i was really impressed, pool area is lovely with great views, but we spent most our days on the beach as the pool gets crowded.
We ate at the hotel most nights and the food was really nice, did become samey after a while though. Dress code is strict and they sent my boy friend away to get changed as he had 3/4 length trousers on.
I wouldn't really stay at this hotel again as i think there are better hotels if you look around.
" We have just returned with our 8 year... "
Submitted By: Mrs K FeelyThe room was a decent size with lovely views of the mount Teide to the right and the sea to the left. Room was immaculate- cleaned every day, used towels changed (if left in the bath). Room had fridge and air-conditioning which was a godsend since it was in the high 20's while we were there. Some days were cloudy but be aware that you will still get burnt!
The restaurant staff could not do enough to help; the food was varied and delicious with something to suit everyone.
There was a great selection of shops, bars, restaurants to suit everyone - all within a short walking distance.
The staff - all of whom spoke English were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. The animation team too were brilliant, not in your face but there if you wanted to take part in the activities.
The kids club could not be faulted, a brilliant team who really worked well with the children. Not once all week did we hear the dreaded "I'm bored". Evening entertainment was varied and fun - particularly enjoyed 'The Beatles'.
The pool area was truly beautiful - but although the hotel frowns upon people reserving sunbeds people did, every day. We struggled to find sunbeds in the best spots as they were reserved well before 9am.
For the first 3 days we followed the rules then decided that we would reserve too to ensure a good spot as everyone else did anyway. We noticed sunbeds that were reserved before breakfast and no-one using them till mid-afternoon.
The excursions organised through the reps are a rip off. Just a two minute walk from the hotel there are places selling the same excursions at a fraction of the price. We would recommend the boat trip to see the whales and dolphins - brilliant. There is also a little train that takes you around the area for 9euros, 5 for children, at about an hour long you get a good tour.
The only minor irritation is the time-share touts. They start off by trying to give you scratch cards and saying you have won a prize. IT IS A LIE. We met a woman who was told she had won 60 Euros and that they would send her in a taxi to collect it. What she found was a 5 hour long presentation on timeshare. She was unable to leave as she did not know where she was and had no idea how to get a taxi back to her hotel.
So be warned. We found that by telling them we were going home that day meant that they left you alone.
Other than that - totally brilliant for couples of all ages and families.
" We were in a great area, situated... "
Submitted By: Mrs J MorrisonThe hotel was clean and tidy; Cleaning was still in progress whilst we were there. The food was disappointing considering that this hotel had a 3/4star rate and, having stayed at an Iberostar hotel before where the food was spectacular, we felt let down and ate out on three occasions.
We found a great Steak House, La Brassiere and a Chinese, A Taste of Peking, both within a 10 minute walk of our hotel. We would advise going Room only on future holidays here.
The scenery and surrounding area were brilliant and the walk that stretches so far around the island was brilliant once you learned how to dodge the time share touts.
Shopping is great too, but don't be conned into buying at the first shop that you appear to be getting a great deal...shop around.
If you fancy the Mount Tiede excursion, go by taxi, bus or other means. don't go on one of the organised tours as your time at the top is extremely limited. We no sooner got up, took a couple of photos and then we were boarding the next cable car down in order to get back to our coach before it left...we did leave a couple of people behind and that was despite waiting 20minutes. I would say that the trip is worth doing, the sights are spectacular.
All in all a great holiday.
" Returned last week after spending two... "
Submitted By: Mrs Wilma GilmourWe were very happy with the hotel and our room on the 6th floor was lovely. Larger than average balcony and a good size comfortable room with fridge, TV, hair dryer, safe etc.
Rooms serviced daily and towels changed daily and bed every two days. This did seem a bit OTT to us as the weather the first few days was a good bit cooler than normal and cold at night. In fact I made use of the blanket supplied for a few days.
However not a complaint as we thoroughly enjoyed staying here.
Food was excellent with a good selection of choices. After a couple of weeks it does get a bit repetitive but there are various eating establishment close by. OK so wine and drinks were a bit more expensive than outside but you expect this in any hotel. Staff are very pleasant and helpful.
No problem with sun loungers either, even the second week which was the schools Easter holidays and weather getting a good bit hotter. We did what everyone else did and put our towels (supplied by hotel) out before going in for breakfast about 9.30.
We didn't do any of the excursions as we have been to Tenerife many times and did them all before. Husband is newly retired and we just wanted two weeks of sun and rest in a good hotel.
We did loads of walking. Out the back exit down towards the beach, turning left take you to the Port and Las Americas and turning right takes you to Las Calleta, along the beach walkway. It was lovely.
We were more than happy with this hotel and would have no hesitation in returning.
" Just got back from a wonderful... "
Submitted By: Mrs W.L. TylerWe had a lovely day at Loro Park, one day by the pool and the others walking or on the beach. We recommend good shoes as the promenade is very inviting for a beautiful walk in either direction and if we'd had walking boots we might have also walked inland which is more hilly or visited Mount Teide (rhymes with Lady)! My husband went for morning runs inland and said the views were breath taking. The hotel hires out towels, useful as the black sand gets everywhere.
We don't recommend booking trips through the Thomas cook rep as we were badly let down. We wanted to go on a boat to see whales and dolphins and waited 40 mins am and then again pm for a cancelled trip with no message about what had happened. The most depressing thing was seeing all of the other people who had booked with other companies picked up promptly. Even for the Loro Park trip they were half an hour late, so our visit was that much shorter.
Back to the hotel. It was clean enough (shower curtains had a damp smell, but otherwise no issues), helpful staff, good food and lots of it - a selection of Canarian, Spanish, English, German and Italian foods. The pools were inviting, but even the heated one was quite cold. (I prefer swimming in the sea as you seem to warm up quicker in it.) We had no problem finding an empty sun lounger in a decent spot. Our room had side views of the sea and mountains from the balcony.
The hotel entertainment was low key, not at all in your face. I saw a fashion show and aerobics going on and the children's club seemed popular and fun. The night time entertainment seemed to have a ball room dancing theme, but we didn't use the hotel bar much, preferring to go out.
I would fully recommend this hotel for a lovely holiday base. The half board made it very affordable (we paid under £800). We would love to go again and think it's probably a great choice for a relaxing, out of season holiday.
" Great 4* hotel far enough away from... "
Submitted By: Mr S BurtonRooms were clean and spacious and the food was good lots of choice. Although we did out a few times even though we were on Half Board. We paid a good price for the hotel so it didn't seem to matter.
The normal thing with reserving beds but that seems to be the norm except at the Fanabe costa sur where you have to pay for your bed approx 1euros so that stops all that nonsense.
Hotel was about £480 half board at relaxabroad.com and flights were about £120 each at thomascookfly. So good price and good holiday. Definitely recommend.
" It would have been 9.5 if I could.... "
Submitted By: Mr A WilsonWith the hotel around 50 yards from the beach, excellent service, food and entertainment.
Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The food was varied and delicious and catered for all tastes.
The entertainment was pitched about right for us - good fun and great to join in with if you wanted, but low key enough to avoid if you just wanted a quiet time.
We would have no problem returning to this hotel or recommending it to others.
We had some lovely walks along the beautiful seafront. Although it is only a short walk to Playa De Las Americas (10 - 15 minutes to the left) we didn't enjoy this area as much with us being constantly bombarded with people giving us 'scratch card' (be careful - they are very good at convincing you that you have won a star prize - they just want to get you to their high pressure sales team - DON’T DO IT).
We went to the right along the seafront and it was fantastic, Beautiful scenery a fantastic shopping centre and an excellent market on Saturday and Thursday.
The Hotel has a policy that should prevent the reserving of sun beds by the pools - They don't enforce this (hence 9.5) and although there were sun beds available we did find it frustrating the towels were occupying 'prime spots' with the owners arriving mid afternoon.
We had a fantastic holiday and will be going back to Iberostar Torviscas Playa.

Submitted By: Mr A MoleThe pool area was very good, so good in fact that people outside of the hotel tend to frequent the place as well. Scenes reminiscent of the Carling Black Label advert spring to mind. (You know the one - throwing your Union Jack towel out of the window bouncing across the water to land on your sun bed)
My family enjoyed the holiday that much that we are going to break our rule and book again. Guaranteed to have a good time.
I have heard on some other forums that people have complained about the cleanliness of the rooms. I can only say that we could not fault the service. Rooms cleaned daily, linen changed twice a week. Fresh towels each day etc etc. (As for the person who claimed that their room was infested with ants, I can only say that theirs was the only one and perhaps they shouldn't attract them by leaving waste food and bottles out all night and day.
You can not go wrong with a family holiday to this hotel. Close enough to the promenade and restaurants/pubs if you want try them out or go for a walk (we only ate out twice).
Don't sit and listen to everyone else’s points of view - go and sample it yourself, you'll not be disappointed.
I (and so it would seem many others) can not praise this hotel and its staff highly enough - well done and keep it up.
" Just returned from a fantastic two... "
Submitted By: Miss P Wardle-BrownThe hotel was lovely, clean and well maintained with very friendly staff who couldn’t do enough to help.
Pool area is lovely but not enough sun loungers when people reserve them at 7am each morning!
The Torviscas beach is beautiful, and if you pay for the use of sun loungers you also have the service of a man named Gus all day who will bring food and drinks over to your sun lounger which was very nice as it means you can totally relax and chill out!
I visited with my boyfriend and the main reason we chose Tenerife was for the nightlife of Playa De Las Americas which as absolutely fantastic, the only problem being the 30 minute walk each night, but it was definitely worth it when you got there! Weather was outstanding - between 45-52 degrees most days.
Couldn’t have asked for a better holiday and will most certainly be returning to this hotel!
" This hotel would be more... "
Submitted By: Mrs C EvansWe were on a half board basis but ended up eating out as the food lacked variety as well as taste.
The pool and surrounding area is beautiful if you are lucky enough to get a lounger. The hotel rule is not to reserve loungers but this is not policed. We could not get any loungers even after breakfast at nine o 'clock. Instead we went on the beach and returned to the hotel at about 4pm when it was quieter and loungers were vacant.
Our room was facing the front of the hotel and we suffered the noise from the local karaoke bar until the early hours every night. This was ridiculously loud and not acceptable. The rooms were spacious and kept very clean.
We actually had a lovely holiday but would not return to this or any other Iberostar hotel.
" The hotel is pleasant, but could do... "
Submitted By: Mrs A BroadheadOur room on the 6th Floor had a good view of the sea and got the evening sun. I would say the higher floors get the better view, the hotel is very close to the Guayarmina Hotel and other peoples hotel rooms! Adequate, no fills, but clean.
Location was good, near to most things you should ever need.
Food was ok, there are lots of people to feed as most seem to take half board, we found eating later was better, once the 'turn' is on it seems to go quiet. Just pick your time carefully as the queues can be quite long for the fried eggs on a morning.
Pool area could get very busy, lots of sun beds, most seem to get reserved with towels even though there is a request not to do this. An allocation system would solve this problem. Lots of activities for everyone, can get quite noisy. Usually a 'fashion show' at lunch time which keeps the chaps happy. We visited in May and it was quiet, which suited us, perhaps it wouldn't if it was busy.
There were lots of OAP’s on long term holidays, they were great fun. A few children were kept occupied with the kids club who seems to have a great face painting artist considering the number of lions, tigers and monkeys running around. We managed to find a quiet spot up some steps by the loos.
A good place for a weeks break.

Food delightful, something for everyone’s taste. Meat/fish cooked in front of you while you wait. Array of fresh salads/fruits etc. Eggs for breakfast cooked for you while you wait (fried/omelettes/pancakes/boiled). Staff couldn’t do enough for you and were extremely friendly and helpful. Entertainer’s daytime and evening very friendly and made the holiday enjoyable, whether you wanted to participate or just relax and watch others.

Location ideal, right next to beach/tree lined promenade. Local market Thursdays and Saturdays just 2 minute stroll from Hotel. Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a respectable, tasteful hotel. Would suit older and younger couples, families, honeymooners etc.

I have stayed in Moat House Hotels in this country and this is definitely of a similar standard.
" One word...WONDERFUL. Just booked... "
Submitted By: Mr S MorrisonThe entertainment team do a good job of keeping those who wish to have a more energetic holiday occupied during the day - exercise classes, Salsa dancing classes, water aerobics, football, basketball, bowls, table tennis, archery, water polo, bingo ..... the list goes on. They also have a "teeny club" and a club for the teenagers. The same team also put on family shows in the evening - followed by a disco.
One point to note, however, try to book a room at the back of the hotel rather than the street facing front as the traffic can be quite noisy.
Our 17 year old is going with us this year with one of his mates - as he too has thoroughly enjoyed his past holidays at the Playa.

There was something going on all day but not in your face like other hotels we have stayed in where you were pressured to join in, if you wanted to join in you were welcome if not ,no hassle.
The food was amazing ,we had my parents in law with us and we all agreed there was something for everyone,a stones throw away from beach and bars,we liked it sooooo much we are all going back this year but this time for 2 weeks.
PS Stay up this end of promenade (in the evenings)because once you get down to the other end you get constant hassle of touts trying to get you into their bars , all we wanted to do was have a nice stroll and sometimes we would have to get quite rude to make them leave us alone, other than that no complaints.
