I have to agree to some extend with the previous review (Sioned Sept 2011). Myself, my partner and two children visited Vic Playa for two weeks in August, and it was very noisy, very crowded, which we pretty much expected. The sunbed situation clearly needs looking at by... more

....because you may end up here! Myself and my best friend, both in our mid 30's, and my little boy who is 3, had booked this Hotel as it promised lots of amenities for children and seemed to be very geared up for the younger child. As a loyal Thomson customer I was happy... more

Lets start with the negatives. Pool side snacks were awful with a choice of a sandwich or a sandwich. Ice creams for children were limited in both time slots and choice. In order to get a sunbed you had to be up and out by 7am - earlier if you wanted a parasol which was a... more

absolutely brilliant
Have just spent the first week in July at the victoria playa,it was actually our second choice of hotel as the audax in cala galdana was fully booked. It couldnt have turned out better. It was an absolutely brilliant hotel. The staff were great nothing was to much trouble for them.Hotel was spotless and the food was good. Also the location was great right on the beach.Would love to go again and bring grandchrildren next time.
A great holiday
I have just returned from spending 2 weeks at this Hotel. Although it is listed as a Superfamily Hotel I stayed with my partner and we did not have any children. We had a really great holiday. The Hotel staff are so friendly and helpful. That includes our room-maid (up on the 4th floor) She spoke perfect English and she worked very hard. The Hotel reps were an absolute joy. The Entertainment reps were brilliant and so energetic. One of the Entertainment Reps---Snazzy Sarah--- was moved to another resort on our last day but she would be sorely missed. The childrens reps worked so hard to make the kids enjoy themselves. There was guenuine friendship and enjoyment in their job amongst all the reps. They were all good friends and that made for a happy atmosphere. I have been to this hotel quite a few times and I have to say that the reps at the Hotel were the best I have ever encountered. It was lovely to see the kiddies come back to their parents with tales of Big Bear hunts, and wearing hats or masks they had made. In the evening at their Disco it was lovely to see the little ones dancing. The only complaint about the evening entertainment was that the sound volume was much too loud. My only other complaint was that the food was not as good as other years. But I did not go on holiday for the food, so I just had what I fancied, or what I knew was edible. Food problems or not I can recommend this Hotel. It is well situated, in its' own grounds. There are plenty of beds around the pool. I can honestly say that it was the best holiday my partner and I have spent there. And I am well into my 60s.
Great for kids, Ok for adults
Just returned from 2 weeks at the Victoria playa hotel. We have 2 kids 3 & 5 and they had a ball, the kids club took them off our hands for a couple of hours every morning. The Kidszone reps are excellent, they do not get a break and always have time for the kids. The rooms were clean , but small especially for a family of 4. Also the walls are paper thin you can hear everything your neighbours say!! The staff of the hotel cant be faulted very friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was suprisingly good, if you stuck to the local dishes of fish and pork , I did not try their "British " fare. The entertainment was OK , but if you get bored head out to some of the other hotels and try theirs for a change. Santo Thomas is very small so a hire car is essential just to check out some of the other parts of the island. Food lovers head up to Fornells for some great quayside fish restaurants. Also every town we visited had a playpark , so we always headed to them to stop the children getting bored, a compromise of half an hour playing on a chute allowed us to then explore Mahon and Cituadella without complaint. As an island Menorca is not cheap for food and drink and you will spend more than you thought. The kids loved this holiday which meant we had a relaxing time as we did not have to keep them entertained .I dont know if children over the age of 10 would enjoy it as much, as the activities seemed to be aimed at a younger age group. Overall we had a great time here but would probably stay in a larger resort next time.
Take Your Driving Licence
Have to say that if you visit Minorca, take your driving licence. Lovely island but with limited bus service and road system, a car is a must. Hotel was smashing.Clean,friendly. Would recommend requesting end room as these were larger with lovely views. Having experienced very poor or even no entertainment from equally rated hotels in the past, have to say evening entertainment was poor to middling in the first week, but did improve. Perhaps they could change their entertainment provider!. Kids very well catered for and reps appeared to have the patience of a saint with some of them. Reps were all friendly but not pushy,if you didn't want to take part in any event there was no harassment.Food was good with fair amount of choices. Would recommend this hotel to friends with families but would also recommend only a weeks stay. Not because of hotel but due to limited access to surrounding places. Difficult to understand also why travel companies were placing elderly couples in this hotel as it is clearly a family type hotel. Have to be honest and say overall had a great, restful holiday.Which is what we wanted.Kids were well entertained, with plenty for them to do if they wanted to join in. Would go back again(for 1 week, whilst kids are still small) W ould recommend it.Rating of maybe 8.5/10.
Butlins In The Sun !!!!!!!!!
Having just returned form the Victoria Playa I find I have to be completely thorough to give a well rounded and truthful review of this hotel. We as a family are quite well travelled and have toured the world quite widely. However we have always avoided Spain, having been put of - perhaps wrongly - by the likes of Torremolinos and Benidorm, but as we have a two year old in our family upon bitter experience we decided on this occasion long haul would be best avoided. Upon arriving there were few guests as it was the third day into the first week of the summer season, which was quite laid back and suited us down to the ground. Admittedly the hotel in comparison to others in the area is on the large side so we should have been mindful of what was to come. The hotel is clean, the locals are okay, there are three swimming pools, two allocated to small children, and it has prime position overlooking the Mediterranean. The hotel rooms again clean but very, very small and the walls so thin you can hear every word of your neighbour’s dialogue – if you have noisy neighbours bawling at their children day and night as we did it can be a nightmare!! The food although repetitive is palatable (although we felt the drinks and food locally were on the pricey side – Santo Tomas is basically one street with a few hotels and restaurants, as there is little competition locally the restaurants and bars can charge what they like, and they do!). A couple of days after we arrived my god did the hoards arrive (reliably informed some 500+ guests over just a two day period - let alone the others who arrived over the duration of our stay) and the on site entertainment was cranked up to full volume. Basically Thomson and their subsidiaries have complete exclusivity over this hotel. You can almost say it is owned by Thomson. Thomson the dog welcomes you at reception and for the rest of your stay entertainment is laid on very much “Butlins Style” with Thomson reps residing on site as the entertainers encouraging all to take part in the daily activities, the same into the evening with the reps putting on silly skits in the “cabaret lounge” and tacky third rate cabaret entertainers – exclusively tribute bands to acts that have long since either died or retired. This occurs every evening from 9.30 onward and bangs out at 150 decibels. In the neighbouring bar the wide screen TV is constantly switched onto football which again is banged up to full volume, which keeps the beer bellied England shirt wearing "Torremolinos" brigade happy (and believe me in this hotel there’s a lot of them). There is no escape from the noise unless you go completely off site. Don’t get me wrong Menorca is very pretty. The beach at Santo Tomas is very inviting, and some of the other hotels in the area look very appealing – especially the Hotel Santo Tomas whose hotel bar looks out over the sea – quite breathtaking. We would go back to Menorca and even return to Santo Tomas, although as I said take plenty of euros as it is quite pricey locally, I just would not return to the Victoria Playa – if I wanted Butlins I would have gone to Skegness!!
great family hotel
Just returned from a fortnight holiday at the victoria playa, 3 year old daughter had a ball, the kidzone reps dont get paid enough for the job they do, they all helped make her holiday spike, canada, claire bear, crazy clair, nutty nic, hayley hic-up. the food was good, the rooms are basic but you hardly spend any time in them as there is so much going on in the hotel. the hotel staff are all very friendly, pool safe for young children with a choice of 2 baby pools, last word for the entertainment duo magic martin and baby jane, they were brilliant even when there is really bad weather. would definetely go back.
victoria playa
Just returned from a 1 weeks holiday in Santo Thomas, Minorca. Stayed at the "Victoria Playa", partner, 4 year old daughter & myself. Could not fault the hotel, apart from the rooms are very basic (but then again your not in them very long) Entertainment, food and weather were excellent. Would recommend hiring a car to see the rest of the island as there is not much to see in the resort, only other hotels & villas & the odd shop and restaurant dotted around. If you looking for a family hotel & good entertainment & beaches only, then I would suggest this hotel. Thompson reps work very hard to keep the kids entertained all day.
cant beat this hotel
Hotel spotlessly clean, staff at hotel, briliant, reps work very hard and do a brill job, food at hotel, excellant, beach is 20 yeards away and there is a safe swimmin area sections off. A flag system operates on the beach and a lifeguard on a jet ski parades the area to keep everyone safe. This is a very quiet resort. Very clean and people very friendly. The chinese above the supermarket is amazing. Doctor Pedro is next to the chinese and we had to visit him twice, he was great, brill with kids. We got off the plane and went straight to thomson and book again for next year! We got the last two interconnecting rooms for when we want to go, so do0nt think about it, do it! or you will miss out! People go back here year after year because it has everything you could want form a holiday, safe, clean, friendly, not expensive drinks, beach clean and safe and close and no noisy nightclubs to keep you awake at night, everything closes at 12pm, so you all get a good nights sleep, what more can I say, FANTASTIC!
Entertainment Magic Style
Having just returned from the Hotel Victoria Playa, I cannot believe no one has mentioned the brilliant entertainment team - Magic Martin and Baby Jane. They start the fun at 11.00 am and finish at 12.00 midnight with very little break in the middle. We first saw Magic Martin in Ibiza last year and thought he was excellent then. He has managed to go beyond excellent this year - full of energy, enthusiasm and fun. He stands around 6 foot 3 inches - his assistant Baby Jane must be five foot nothing! Little and Large they might be but a very good team them make all the same. They add that little bit extra to everyone's holiday.
Check out the "Grid"
Just returned from our 4th holiday at The Victoria Playa and they never disappoint us. The new Thomson entertainment programme now includes a 13 to 16 yrs club The Grid, which is basically a drop in and chill out kind of thing. Very laid back, but a good way to break the ice and chat. Playstation, karaoke anything for a laugh really, it's held away from the little kids clubs, up in The Admirals Bar. Give it a go if you are heading there for your hols.
