Great friendly hotel, excellent food and service.
from JADswindon
Excellent Hotel that I would recomend to anybody looking for that home from home experience in the Italian Alps. 4 course dinner is exceptional value for money using a selection of local produce and true Italian meals. Overall ambience of the hotel is that of a very friendly and welcoming environment, with nothing being too much trouble for any of the staff. Coupled to a ski shop also owned by the same family providing excellent equipment as well as boot room facilities and finally perfectly located for the lifts up to the ski areas this hotel is a great place to stay and I will certainly be back next year!!
Perfection!!

You can't get better than this place! Caroline and her team were wonderful and made the trip so easy and plesant. We had a superior room and I can honestly say it is the nicest hotel we have stayed in while skiing. The location is perfect - you literally ski back to the front door and the litfts of a morning simply require crossing the road... For a ski trip you can not go wrong with this place!!
Not a single complaint

There were 8 of us staying at Hotel Stella Alpina for a skiing trip (my first one I may add), and I couldn't have wished for a better hotel. The staff (especially the manager/owner Caroline) were so very helpful and friendly. We stayed on a half board basis and the breakfast was plenty; cereals, rolls, yoghurts. The advertised 3 course meal is actually 4 courses once you attack the free 'salad cart'. All the food was brilliant and very filling. The rooms were spacious and even meant we had a dedicated hangout in our friends room (to save money in the bars given the recent awful exchange rate). The hotel bar offer you a discount on drinks and food if you stay in the hotel, and all very reasonably priced as well (compared to the bars). Altogether it was a fab hotel and really nice resort, shame I can't ski for toffee tho.... The hospital staff were nice too!!!
Best hotel in Sauze

I've stayed at the Stella Alpina on quiet a few occasions. The Stella Alpina has a great location at the bottom of the Clotes piste. The accommodation is clean and spacious. The service from the staff is excellent. The food is good and theirs plenty of it . This hotel has got to be one of the best ski hotels i have ever stopped in for the al-round ski experience.
We have stayed many times and will still go back

What a great location for starters, right at the bottom of the slope and their bar is full from 4onwards for apres ski. Family run and you can tell everything is clean, tidy, helpful, good quality rooms. The towels and bedding are clean and crisp and changed regularly. The food is simple italian cooking and whats not to love, salad, starter, main and homemade deserts yum. Book your flights with Ryanair and ring the hotel to arrange a transfer no problem.
Great location

Stayed at the Stella Alpina for a ski holiday over Easter. The hotel was basic but comfortable with a great location about 3 minutes walk from the Clotes chairlift and about a 10 minute walk from the Sportinia chairlift. A bus stops right outside if you don't want to walk with your skis. The ski shop is next to the hotel so is very convenient. If you have ski school in Sportinia all week you can take your skis and leave them in a ski locker there at the top so you don't have to carry them each day. The hotel food was good; bread, ham, cheese, yoghurt and cereal for breakfast and a 3 course cooked meal each night with plenty of variety. Service was excellent, Caroline was very helpful and arranged taxis for those who wanted to travel to Montgenevre to ski and also recommended a restaurant and booked us a table on the night we wanted to eat out. Nothing was too much trouble. She even got up at silly o clock the morning we were leaving to provide hot drinks and breakfast. Rooms were comfortable, very warm with good balconies/views and plenty of hot water.
Excellent

We stayed in a very large annex room right next to the hotel for which we paid an extra charge. It was well worth it as the room enabled us to spread out and feel very comfotable indeed. The hotel is not quite 'ski-in ski-out' although it is situated right at the bottom of the piste. Skiing home couldn't be more convenient but there there is a walk of 150 meters to the lift in the morning over the snow and ice. Caroline and her staff were the special element as she was always available for help and advice and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Her personal hospitality made us feel very much at home. Also the staff of the ski shop deserve mention for their care and attention to our needs. We cannot comment about the food as we chose to stay on a B&B basis but would thoroughly recommend this hotel to all readers who are looking for good value.
fantastic time
from mawd0
travelled as a mixed party of 12, 3 under 18 rest range from 21 to 49 mum,s dad,s and couples found the location to be fantastic ,dont think you can get any closer to slopes or ski shop.room,s good hotel nice and clean throught, personally put on 1/2 stone so you could say food also great. weather /skiing was fantastic and neilson staff were as we have come to expect form this company over the years were terrific but we cannot say and thank caroline and all her staff at the hotel and in the ski shop enough for going the extra mile to make our stay a truly memorable one and we would reccomend anyone to try this hotel,we will again .Thanks caroline from john, kim and the gang.
fab

fab, went with 3 kids (18,16,9) The hotel and there ski hire/shop was really helpful. Being able to ski to door and leave skis in storage virtually on the slopes was a joy. Food was great and plenty of it. Rooms looked out on slopes and were great. and more space than in france last year.
Great Location & Hosptality
from Elizabeth26
We stayed at the Stella Alpina for a weeks skiing though Neilson. The hotel is family run by a British Lady (Caroline) and Italian husband, who also run the ski hire shop next door which is very convienient. The hospitality and food at the hotel are excellent with a good bar (Scotch Bar) open for residents and non residents. It is busy just aafter the lifts close but quitens down on an evening to a friendly local. Dinner is served as a full 3 course meal with salads also available, you pick your meal the day before from a menu choice. The food was good quality Italian food, so much so we only ventured out twice. The location can't be bettered, at the top of the resort, 2 mins from the Clotes chair lift and a 5 min walk to the Sportinia Lift ( the one you need for Ski School). If the snow is good enough you can ski right down to the front door. Also you are able to store skiis and boots under the sports shop opposite which is handy. Rooms are basic like any ski accomodation. I would probably recommend trying to get a superior room if possible. We had a std one which was ok, twin beds with quite a lot of space. The only down side is that the bathroom was tiny and only has a shower, also there are not many storage places. However for a week fit for purpose, and clean. Our room looked out onto the slopes which was great, although some noise on an evening. However I must say the hospitality and helpfulness of all the staff made staying at the hotel a real pleasure, they really cannot do enough to help you. A classic example is there was a family whose daughter had ripped her trousers and Caroline dug out an old pair of her daughtyers so they didn't need to spend a fortune on a new pair. Sauze D'oulx has a reputation as a party capital, however you can either take it or leave it. There are many nice apres ski bars which are lively but relaxed, although Paddy MCGintys is quite full on. The old town is beautiful with a handful of great local restaurants - again Caroline and team made good recommendations. Skiing is good if you are an intermediate like me with lots of gentle reds, howevevr if you are more advanced then there are not many blacks. You can easily access the rest of the Milky Way so plenty to keep most abilities occupied. Overall a great holiday due to the great location and hospitality
