Went to the La Betulla for a well earned Christmas Ski Experience. It was certainly an experience! The town itself is quiet and quaint; the skiing is good the Neilson rep Caz is very friendly and quite helpful. Probably needs to a bit more forceful though.
We checked in to our first room 109 the room was very cold but the heating was full on? On inspection the balcony doors were unable to be closed and locked, the draft under the doors was very cold. The hotel reception did not understand or claim not to understand English thus the explanation of why we wanted to swap took a long time.
Room 110 still cold but all doors secure. We also had an extra door, an adjourning one. Around 1.30 am the first night of our 7, we were awoken by the noise from the adjoining room 111. The following morning the hotel management promised Caz the rep they would not let that room for the remainder of our stay.
Night 2 room 110, the management lied 111 had new occupants, this noise was not loud but was like being in the same room with no ability to get away from it. Again the rep spoke to the management, who again promised not to let it.
Night 3, room 110 guess what? They let it! This time we insisted to the management that the occupants be moved, as we knew the hotel had some empty rooms, and they did move them. The following morning spoke to Caz, she spoke to the Management who again promised to leave 111 empty, why did we all believe them?
Night 4 room 110, and new neighbours in 111. Told Caz that night to sort without fail and the following day we moved to room 209, which was a warm room with no adjourning door, nice view etc What could go wrong?
After unpacking, sitting on the bed I heard a dripping sound? On inspection the radiator was leaking, then I wondered why my feet were wet. Not only was the radiator leaking but the floor was absolutely sodden as in the water in the carpet lifted around my feet like standing in a puddle.
I went straight down to the manager and led him by the hand to the room and made him stand in the puddle.
He gave me a “I understand look” and off he went. On our return to the room, the radiator was still leaking but several towels were catching the water.
Night 5, Chinese water torture drip, drip, drip. On our return from the days skiing we now had plastic bags under the towels but the radiator still dripped.
So I found some pliers in a shop round the corner tightened up the dripping valve, it did not stop totally but it was better. After that we gave up laughed about it, cried about it, after all we only had 2 nights left.
The food was OK the bar and amounts served in the bar were very good, thank goodness but the staff who say they speak very little English, do not seem to care about anything except filling the rooms and forget any consequences.
