Neilson Chalet Henriette Reviews

Chalet great location, catering let down
3 / 10
Jan 2012, Webbies

Returned 8th jan 2012 from great weeks skiing. Great location great snow great family resort but let down was chalet itself. inside entrance horrendously steep stairs which are not safe for young kids and not mentioned anywhere, not as clean as you would like, not suited for more than 8 can just sit 9 around table that includes 3 small children, 10 adults would be a challenge. The furniture is very very basic and you are not able to relax in it at all which is a shame as that is what you need after a days skiing. If you have gone for catered chalet then basic food is what you get. reportedly chalet did not get our dietary requests, which when you are gluten free this seemed to be a huge challenge despite having 10 months notice......overall if chalet was less basic and food was not so much like school dinners then we might think again about going but not so many of us . The upstairs single bed is in corridor behind curtain by steep stairs and chalet hosts food stood and freezer are next door so if you don't mind being disturbed at 5-6am and other odd times then this would be fine but rather worrying when we used it for a 5 year old.
Great potential with more work, better furnishings better mattresses better duvets and improved standard of catering then this would be great. Can't fault location

Just arrived back in UK from 1 week at the Neilson Chalet Henriette, Serre Chevalier. Brochure does not do this property the justice it deserves! Location - fantastic - perfect. You can literally ski into the boot room! ( that is if the snow has disappeared a little. When its up to your hips, its a little difficult to ski at all!!) we returned 25/01/09. Snowed constantly for the last week and ski conditions not the best! visability little or none on many days. total white-out! pistes however were well bashed continually which helped a little. Lifts ran most of the time. Number of pistes is fantastic and array of skiing is brilliant. We had a party of 10 with ages from 3yrs to 46yrs and everyone skied! We used Ski connections and the instruction was excellent going from basic intermediate to good intermediate within the week and confidently skiing reds, blues with huge moguls!!! Chalet was basic as described, but had a great atmosphere for groups of family/friends. With never ending supplies of wine and a chalet host who provided 5* cooking the whole week. In fact my children ate meals they had never dared try before and loved every bit it! The afternoon tea and cakes were not to be missed. Ski School is about a 2 minute walk in those snow conditions but you can ski right back to the chalet boot room. Location superb. We are sad to be back in UK and cant wait to go back as soon as possible! Good value for money holiday! As a result of the current economic climate the whole area is very expensive. A round of 7 pints and 3 cokes on average 36 euro (yes 36!!) and 5 Cheese Toasties 30 Euro and 9 packets of crisps 9 euro. A main course on average 22/23 Euros. But food is good especially at La Grotte.

Prior to this holiday I was anxious about the chalet as there were no reviews on it. I was gladly relived when I got there. It is basic, which is why it's a two star but it has everything you need. The best thing going for it however is its location. It's right at the bottom of a couple of beginner runs, and all the other main lifts are easily walkable even in ski boots. Town is literally just down the road, and easily accessible in the right footwear(mum). The food was well varied and sufficient, and the wine was more than enough (keep asking for more).
Shared bathroom facilities may make you unpopular if you like to spend an hour in there every morning.
Both the chalet and Serre Chevalier are ideal for families. While we were there it was rather quiet, with no queues for the lifts, and plenty of wide unpopulated slopes.
I'd definitely do the whole thing all over again...and again.

  • Activities: Bit expensive to eat out but there's a fantastic boulangerie, grotto of sweets, and good supermarket
