Feb 2012, Ampleasedthistime!

Stayed here for one week, prior to joining the "Destiny" cruise ship. Excellent room, although a chest of drawers would've been useful. Quiet, clean and a good full bathroom/shower. Wonderful buffet restaurant, clean and very efficient staff. Entertainment very pleasant, and a couple of evenings it was excellent. Daytime activities very varied ....and had great fun being beaten at boules on the beach by the Italians who, of course, are champions at it. All good fun, and not one negative comment to make. Fantastic swimming pools and hotel excellent with easy access to everything.

We were planning to go to Tenerife to celebrate our wedding anniversary and after looking at the impressive photos of the H10 Gran Tinerfe on Thomson’s website we decided that was the hotel for us. When we arrived at the hotel, we were told that our room wasn’t ready and were given a glass of cava while we waited. When we were given the key to our room, number H8, I wasn’t expecting a great sea view as we were on the same floor as reception, but I was still hoping for the “wow factor” when we went into the room. What a shock we got! The room was dark and dingy, the furniture was old and badly chipped, and the walls were dirty and in need of re-painting, completely opposite to the lovely light, modern rooms that we had seen on Thomson’s website. I would say the standard of the room was 2 star, completely unacceptable in a 4 star hotel. We went back to reception to let them know that we wanted to change the room. We spoke to someone who had a surly attitude, very unpleasant and unhelpful; she told us that there was nothing she could do until the next day. We were made to feel really unwelcome. When we went back to the room we discovered that the toilet did not flush so we had to go back to reception to report it. This time we saw a young woman who was very sympathetic and appreciated how upset I was to have been given this room, especially as it was for our anniversary celebration, and she promised us that the next day we would be moved to a “very nice room”.

The next day we went to reception to organise our room change. There were four other people there, all for the same reason. One woman in particular who was travelling alone, had booked a twin room with balcony, but had been given a room she described as a cupboard with no balcony, and she had had to put up with that for four days. We thought it was inconvenient enough being unable to unpack for one night, but she had been living out of her suitcase for four nights – what a way to treat guests! It’s a disgrace and completely unacceptable. Having seen reviews on the Gran Tinerfe, and having spoken to other guests at the hotel, it seems common practice for this hotel to ignore the details of the type of room guests have booked, putting them into rooms without balconies, or like us, into unrefurbished rooms that are in very poor condition. I assume it is the policy of the hotel to overbook which causes this problem. Generally those working on reception were not very friendly, but I suppose it must be difficult for them if they have to deal with complaints about rooms on a daily basis.
Now to the good parts of the holiday: We had to wait until about 2.00pm on the day after our arrival, but our room was changed and we were certainly given a “very nice room”. We were given a junior suite, sea-view, on the seventh floor. This room really did have the “wow factor”, huge, light, modern, just like the photograph on the website. There was a sofa, coffee table, television, mini-bar and balcony in the lounge area, plus a window in the bedroom area which had a very large, comfortable bed. There were two wardrobes, one opposite the bathroom and one in the bedroom area, so plenty of storage space. The bathroom was really spacious with twin wash basins, a wet room style shower plus a bath, it was all absolutely perfect. Although we felt that we had lost the first day of our one week holiday, we felt that we could now start relaxing and enjoying our time in Tenerife.
The position of this hotel is perfect, right on the beach, with easy access from the hotel. This is one of the reasons we booked the Gran Tinerfe as many hotels in Tenerife, have quite a trek to get to the beach.
The restaurant was very busy, which is to be expected in a hotel of this size, but there was never long to wait for a table and we found the waiters to be very efficient. The restaurant is nicely set out with tables for two. The food was fine, the breakfasts being particularly good with so much choice and something to please everyone.
The chill-out bar was lovely, very new and modern. The twin sofa-style day beds were very popular, usually all taken by 9.00am, the only time we managed to get one was at around 3.30 one afternoon (we like to chill-out on holiday and are not very good at getting up early to grab the best beds!) However, there were plenty of sun beds around the three pools, and there was never a problem finding a couple of free ones whatever the time of day.
This is a nice hotel, but it is very unlikely I would return because I would be concerned that the holiday would begin badly again, and for the same reason I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. If you do decide to book the H10 Gran Tinerfe, just be aware when looking at those beautiful photos of the rooms, that what you see is not necessarily what you will get!

Well firstly i have to say my Wife and i loved it , it was a great hotel . Spotless and friendly . Rooms were excellent. Cleaned everyday fresh towels no 2 day using before changed . This is not one of those reviews which will go on for ever so quick 1 pointers for those who just want the basics.
1. Great Location 20 mins from Airport, Night Life is only 10 minutes either way .You must try vivo beach bar right by the Hotel (by beach to the left)and meet the legendary BARRY SPARKLE .
2. Kid free (sorry for anyone who has little ones as nobody under the age of 16 is allowed there couples an families only).
3. No cash used as they give you a card with your name and room number on . You cannot buy drinks or anything without this and you are charged at the end of your stay .Soft drinks are dear £2.20 for a small coke .
4.It states you get pool towels , which you do but it will cost you £15 to use them during your stay
5.Plenty to do loads of trips going
6.Eating out is reasonable ( avoid the restaurant Aberdeen Steakhouse out the front of the hotel an to the left of the hotel food very poor )
7.Shortys Bar owned by English and do good breakfasts an food to order, really friendly follow the same way to Aberdeen Steakhouse but keep going next to scooter hire place
8.Finally Hotel average for a 4*
Some downsides to this but you will find that on any holiday . We will be going back again as the Location and Hotel were excellent even if the food was not.

My husband and i have just spent 2 weeks at this hotel lovely hotel clean as well as pool areas, shame that the food and staff let this place down as location is really good to, if using this hotel i would recommend room only as we paid half board and had to eat out so it was a very expensive holiday.Staff just do not seem to be interested in you, apart from the cleaners and pool attendant they were so nice.

First, before my little complaint I would like to say I would highly recommend this hotel.
We booked a sea view room which we paid extra for. On arrival were told our room was on floor minus two. Which turned out to be a basement room with no balcony. To say the least we were not happy. We returned to the reception with our cases to complain and was told all other rooms were full but to return at twelve the next day and they would change our room. We were not disappointed, the room was brilliant what we expected at first!
Hotel is very clean and staff more than helpful. Food is plentiful although alittle bland, that is if u like spicy food. The pool areas are very well kept and more than enough space for everyone.
Overall a very pleasant stay. We will be returning again, hopefully next year.

Rooms tatty, staff surly, not the quality one expects from a 4 star hotel. Poor communication skills. The renovated rooms were only slighly better. We even got a towel with holes in it! Flash reception but unprofessional staff.

i am a frequent traveller and have been staying many 2,3 and 4 star hotels around the world but this one seem to be a bit better that other 4 star hotels because of the location, which was right next to the beach and service. the best thing is this hotel offers evrything you need. the breakfast was very cheap and the items were uncountable compare to other hotels around the europes.service was also very good, i shall be mentioned the chinese lady was always helping us with big smile and our last day she seems to be a bit upset and so we were!! rooms are very clean and tidy, maid service are always available. only downturn may be rooms and toilets are a bit old fashioned rather than mordern hotels, however that was good value for money. myself also work for a 4 star hotel so i know in and out about hotel business. without having a little doubt in my mind i will recommend anyone to stay at this hotel..also can't forget a little harresment at tenerife airport (north), probably they don't like to welcome asian people especialy people from subcontinent!!!

We stayed at the gran10 tinerfe from 12th-22nd Jan 2010,a great 10 day holiday, spotless rooms , forget all the nonsense about germans putting towels on loungers, they were all doing it , why I'll never know ,as there are plenty to go round ,staff were very friendly and food was fine ,nothing special but no complaints,we joined in with the activities and made friends from germany ,cyprus,Spain, Belgium and switzerland ,very few brits took part in these which is a shame as they miss out on a lot of fun , watch bar prices ,for example 2 beer shandies 8.40 euros ,buy 2 pints and a sprite seperately 7.60 ,this is because they charge 2euros per dash of lemonade , average age was about 50 at the hotel which suited us fine , no louts or rowdies when we went , a highly enjoyable holiday , thomson reps invisible , but would certainly return next year 25 degrees sunshine everyday , Eddie and Kath, flew from glasgow with no delays .

H10 Gran Tenerfe

Flights and transfers all on time. Hotel room upper floor sea view as requested via e-mail. The only Rep's seen were at airport. We missed the first day tours sales talk and no rep's for rest of week at times stated in hotel.
The hotel check in with cases taken to room and brief details of hotel by staff. The hotel is on sea front with views across to La Gomera and although one of the origional hotels it is still in good condition. Food excellent variety and usually hot. (One day not to standard of other six days) Swimming pools crystal clear with one heated and plenty of sun beds scattered in hotel grounds.
Local area. Plenty of bars, cafe's and restaurants in both directions. Promenade flat if walking South but several steps to the North.

Having stayed at many 4 and 5 star...

Having stayed at many 4 and 5 star hotels all over the world, including H10s, to say that this is four-star hotel is really stretching the imagination. (Maybe a 3*)(With a following wind)
Upon arrival I was amazed to find no one to help with the luggage, no one at reception and when we did attract someone’s attention we were informed that the room would not be ready for an hour or so (We arrived at 1.30pm). Two hours later we found our room complete with sea view (Had to argue about that even though we paid the premium). The smell from the bathroom was appalling; we were informed that it was due to the recent rains???? Whets that all about?? In fact the whole hotel stank of fish and rice, (I know its popular in Spain) the furnishings were run down and repaired badly, Beds very uncomfortable and the bathroom only just adequate, at least the shower curtain was clean.
We stayed on a half board basis and wish we never had, everything is buffet, shocked to see elderly and infirm people wandering around with boiling cups of tea and coffee, after the first diner service, (A rugby scrum and very limited choice and zero service)(breakfast is no better, possible worse), we decided to eat out every night, Average bill £45.00 quite expensive after 6 nights, and we had to run the gauntlet of touts every night.
All in all, a very poor hotel, badly in need of major renovation, it is about 30 years old and looks it. Shabby, down at heal, and the service is pathetic, reflecting the overall feel of the place, Try and get someone to bring you a drink at the pool or in a lounge, not a chance....
Location is good, easy walking distance to numerous bars and eateries, would we go again?, a definite yes but not to this hotel, Not even to visit a friend...

I loved this hotel, the food was really good there was fantastic choice and you always find something lovely and different to eat. The rooms were clean and tidy and spacious and had good decoration. The view from each point of the hotel was breath taking. As you were yards from the seafront. The pools are lovely to relax in after time in the sun but one pool is not heated therefore quite chilly but refreshing, their is daily/nightly entertainment which is provided by people who are full of life and always have time for a chat, every member of staff are charcters who aim to make your holiday special.
Their are two outside bars, a Gym also a salon amoungst other things. I love this hotel and i go every year and will continue to, i would recommend it to everyone!

This hotel was fantastic - one step from the door and you where on the beech - the pools are fantastic you can choose to swim in the heated pool or for the brave which want to cool down from the lovely hot weather you can take a dip in the unheated pool - views for the pool terrace overlooking the sea are beautiful. Would recommend to anyone, just behind the hotel is a fantastic restaurant with big black parasols and lit up at night in blue and green - this is worth a visit as is the monkey beach club for lunch or cocktails. 200 yards up from the hotel is a surf shack which offer surfing lessons or you can just hire their equipment. Hotel offers daily/nightly entertainment - not bad but we preferred to take lovely relaxing walks around he town. If you are considering this hotel it is definatel somewhere you should book
