Fantastic city. We were lucky enough to stay at the fabulous Excelsior.
Great food in the restaurants in the walled city then a couple of days on a yacht round some of the islands.
Would recommend Dubrovnik to anyone except for families with young children who might find it lacking a little in things for the kids to do and occupy themselves.

10+ rating for Dubrovnik but only 7 for hotel but this is only because I prefer more individual type hotels and this was very corporate style - but definitely top notch. Brilliant views from our room. Excellent choice at breakfast. Concrete bathing areas but really quite pleasant.
In excellent position - on the waterfront just few hundred metres from old town. Regular ferries to Lokrum Island which is very peaceful with clothed and unclothed sections for lying about and swimming - no beach but huge flat rocks to sunbathe. Sea is crystal clear. Dubrovnik is fantastic. The old town is car free and it is extremely pleasant both day and evening just for strolling, eating and drinking. Easy access public transport if no car.

My advise - go elsewhere. This hotel only deserves a 2 star rating but charges 5 star prices. In our first room waste water from another bathroom dripped through our bathroom ceiling. It took some effort to persuade the hotel that this wasn't acceptable and to move us. After turning down an offer of one single room with a roll up bed, me and my husband we were moved to a tiny, viewless and slightly grubby room.
Overall. Rooms: small and tired. Service: indifferent and at times staff were rude. Food: horrid - thick dry slices of tuna dressed with lemon sorbet were served as Tuna Carpaccio. Spa: I enquired about a massage 3 times without any response. Private beach: a concrete creation.
The only saving grace is the swimming pool which is a good size but in a rather an ugly setting.
