just back from our first trip to Cavtat and it is hard to be objective about the hotel because of the overwhelming beauty and peace of the town itself. Ok, so the hotel Cavtat is a basic 3 star hotel in a prime location. Make sure you get a real sea view, ours was glorious... more

Hotel Cavtat is to be recommended!
Croatia was a first for my husband and myself, so we had no idea what to expect - what a super surprise! The hotel itself was far nicer thatn I expected a 3* to be - spotlessly clean everywhere, very good sized rooms with more than one chair, comfortable beds and pillows, little balcony with table & chairs, more than adequate bathroom and good air-conditioning which was necessary as it was very hot! The buffet style breakfast and evening meal was great in our opinion, plenty of choice, and the chef and the rest of staff were brilliant. The hotel manager (Nelly) is friendly and extremely efficient, and does her job very well. We had the most amazing view from our room - overlooking the marina in Cavtat, we can't remember ever seeing such a beautiful view and coastline. It was an easy walk to the town itself (ideal for all ages and degrees of mobility - no steep climbs), with more beautiful views of trees, mountains, crystal clear water (apparently regular samples of sea water are taken for safety tests, but when you see all the fish and other sea creatures, you know it must be clean). Around our hotel was quiet at night, when we needed it to be, but the short walk into town ended in nice bars and cafes and super restaurants (try the "Ivan" - it's great), nice local produce shops (no tat), and a nice lively, "buzzy" atmosphere without being mindlessly frenetic. There was a noticeable lack of rubbish, chewing gum, dog mess and rowdiness - with everyone just looking happy to be there. Dead easy to get to Dubrovnik by bus (nearby little bus station), and come back on the ferry. We can recommend the 'glassboat' trips, which are very good value, and the luxury coach excursion to Ston and Trsteno which included a seafood light lunch and glass of wine. I could go on - but suffice it to say, we had no negative comments to make at all, and we would like to go back very soon - something we have not done yet with any other holiday.
A good hotel in a great location
We booked the Hotel after reading Trip Advisor reviews and were pleased with our choice. The Hotel is a good 3 star in a very good small harbour location, most rooms have great sea views and it is only a short walk to the main and very charming harbour area. The staff are polite and efficient though could do with smiling more! The rooms and public areas are well cleaned. The hotel is only 3 miles from the airport which is great for the transfer time but you do hear the planes landing and taking off during the day - roughly every 30-60 minutes. There was also a bit of building noise nearby but this was away from the hotel and is to expected in a place attracting investment as Croatia is right now.. One other thing to mention is that locals also use the sunbathing areas and hotel's loungers in front of the hotel and being smallish it gets quite busy, especially at week-ends. There are loads of good excursions on offer and we found the best local operator to be Atlas Travel. The hotel food was good if you are a buffet lover. Overall it is good value for money.
super location
First impressions were not great (late at night and raining) but they improved following morning. Rooms were clean and spacious with lovely viels from balcony even with trees in the way. Breakfast was lovely for first week and a bit. Buffet style with lots of choice got a bit boring after a little while but that is to be expected. Champagne on sunday morning was a nice touch. Had dinner in hotel once and it was nice buffet style. Spoke to some people who said it didn't change much on a day to day basis. WOuld recommend going B&B as there is lots of lovely restaurants very nearby. Location is perfect within 5 minutes walk to the centre of the town. On top floor there is a lovely sun balcony which is perfect for sunbathing if you are not interested in swimming (as down by the hotels beach!!! can be very crowded) although the swimming is really nice I would recommend swim shoes as it is very stony. Not much nightlife in the hotel or the town although hotel is much quieter there is music 2 a week but it finishes at 10ish after the dinner. One fo the pluses for this hotel was the book swap outside the breakfast room people leave books they have read and you can get new ones which I thought was brilliant. If you are a coffee or tea lover bring your own kettle as hotels don't supply them. Overall I would recommend this hotel.
Brilliant Week
Just returned from a fantastic holiday in the Hotel Cavtat which, in my opinion, has the best location of all the hotels in the small town. The hotel faces the sea and directly in front there is a bathing platform from which you can swim in the clear, clean sea or if you prefer, you can idle the time away on a sunbed. The hotel was delightful with bright, airy rooms, friendly staff and the hotel food was delicious. Access to Dubrovnik is easy; you can take a boat or catch the bus and both services are frequent -either way, the journey takes about 45 mins. There are also boats to take you to different islands and villages. The town centre is about 5 mins away and there are many bars and restaurants with lots of different choices on offer. I think that this particular hotel would suit most people although I would not recommend this for young single people.
Great location in itself and for Dubrovnik
This is a straight-forward hotel right on one Cavtat's bays. It doesn't pretend to be 5 Star, but the rooms are clean, it does have functioning air conditioning in the rooms, a reasonable food selection for breakfast and friendly and helpful staff. Meals can be taken on the terrace overlooking the bay and the narrow road in front is not that busy. On the other side of the road, the cordoned off area for swimming in the bay is perfect - steps and showers and probably a lot cleaner than the main Cavtat bay the other side of the promotory which caters for the ferry boats and floating gin palaces. If I have any complaint about the hotel it is that the bathroos (showers only) are very basic. We were lucky to have a room with a good view - some are partly blocked by the trees. There is a wealth of good restaurants at Cavtat so no need to go half board. There are a couple of ATMs to top up your local currency, but credit cards were also accepted at most restaurants. The ferry boat to Dubrovnik, or the islands, is good fun. The bus (no 10) might be cheaper, and run later, but you need to check exactly where to get off above the Old Town to avoid going too far into Dubrovnik proper. When you go swimming elsewhere, either wear flip flops or watch out for the sea urchins on the rocks. That apart it is a very civilised place for a holiday!
Hotel Cavtat - perfect for us
Just home in Ireland after a weeks stay in Hotel Cavtat. We really enjoyed our stay and would come to this hotel again if we return to Cavtat. We arrived late on Sunday night around 11 and on checking in were told there was dinner waiting in our room. In our room was a plate with cold meats, cheese, egg and bread, a carton of juice and apples. It was a lovely surprise and just what we needed after the flight. I have never recieved this in a hotel before and was delighted. All the staff were friendly. We choose to stay half board because it was only 36 euro extra each. I thought we might only eat there once or twice but we ended up eating there every night except our last night. It wasn't top class amazing food but it was ideal. It was buffet style with lots of salads, breads and soups for starter, 4 or 5 main courses (fish, vegetarian, turkey, veal, pasta) to choose from and 3 or 4 vegetables (broccolli, cauliflower, peas, etc). There were lots of deserts, ice cream and fruits. We found the wine a little expensive here (similar to home) compared to other bars up the town. We found the hotel clean. We were supposed to have a sea view but really it was a view of a garden (unless you leaned over the balcony to see the sea). The lift is also a little noisy but if you have a few drinks before bed you won't even notice it.
Convenient Cavtat
Quick transfer from airport. Staff helpful and friendly.Food good, varied - buffet style. Excellent location in centre of village and close to bus stops to Dubrovnik and elsewhere. Short walks to the ferries. There are other walks close by. Suggest you upgrade to sea-view rooms, from where the scenery is spectacular. Our double room was slightly on the small side - others looked bigger!! Nice public rooms and there is a terrace on the roof.
2 visits and very satisfied
an excellent 3 star hotel in a superb location. Pleasant staff and above average buffet food encouraged us to return in Sept and we were equally satisfied. Rooms and whole hotel spotless, well maintained and with gorgeous location in village. Buffet food always freshly cooked, well presented and a number of options. An excellent hotel and village for the over 40's
Picturesque Village
Set in a peacefull location over the road from the shore this is only 5 minutes walk to the village quayside with all its bars and restaurants. SUGGEST YOU ASK FOR A SEAVIEW ROOM WHEN BOOKING OR ON ARRIVAL AS THE CLIFF FACE IS NOT AN APPEALING OPTION.
Good experience at Cavtat Hotel
My husband and I went to Cavtat in July 2004. CAVTAT Cavtat is a beautiful little town by the sea, near Dubrovnik (15 km or so) and has a very family orientated style. The town is divided into two small bays, one with a fishermen's port and the other with a recreational port. - Restaurants and bars There are a few nice restaurants - the best is, probably, Cavtat Restaurant - where we were very well treated (by the way, Croatian are very nice and helpful) and the food was good - if you like lobster you will have the opportunity to taste it at reasonable prices. There are also a couple of pubs in the centre of town but you can say they are very low key (or at least they were, when we went there). So, if you have kids with ages between 14/18 you better think of something else because the town is quite small and there are few entertainments around! On the road that leaves Cavtat to the Albatros Hotel and near this hotel there are also a few restaurants and one or two pubs. One of this pubs (can't remember the name) was frequented mainly by locals and it was very nice. - Banks, post office and supermarket In the center of Cavtat there are three or four ATM a post office and a small supermarket with everything you need. - Getting around From Cavtat you can get a boat (near Albatros Hotel) to Dubrovnik (old town), which is always a great way to enter Dubrovnik. However, be aware that this boat is really slow and takes approximately one hour to reach Dubrovnik (and one hour more back to Cavtat!!) and the last boat leaves Dubrovnik around 7 pm. So my advice is to rent a car, if not for all your stay, at least for four or five days (depending on how long you will stay there). The road from Cavtat to Dubrovnik is a good one and you will do the trip in around 20/30 min., depending on traffic (and you will have the opportunity to see the amazing scenery and you will enter Dubrovnik the best possible way, with an amazing breath taking view!). CAVTAT HOTEL Cavtat Hotel is a nice three star hotel from Iberostar hotel chain. The hotel is not new and we could see it had been refurbished five or six years ago. Notwithstanding, it is in good condition and don't forget it is only a three star hotel. The scenery around the hotel is lovely. We were probably lucky (or we paid more than the others!) but we got ourselves one of the biggest rooms in the hotel (even the ensuite bathroom had a window overlooking the sea)! This room was very nice (but not huge), clean and had a big balcony overlooking the sea. However, once the room was right next to the marble stairway leading to the restaurant, in the morning, really early, we would start to hear everybody getting down to the restaurant (footsteps and talk) for breakfast! Quite annoying! This restaurant was very nice with a wonderful view to the sea and the breakfast was great. The main entrance to the Hotel is on a higher ground and there is a private parking site right here but you can reach the street also by the back door at -5 floor which is the restaurant and terrace floor and the access to the beach right in front of the hotel. There is a small road between the hotel and the beach (the same road that leads to Albatros Hotel) with almost no traffic. The "beach" is not quite what I was expecting. It looks like a swimming pool in the open ocean. Once there is almost no sand in Croatia, only a few (overcrowded) beaches have sand, what we can get at the Cavtat Hotel is a cement platform, where the sun beds are, with access to the pebbled sea. The sea is absolutely safe for everyone and completely transparent. Quite amazing for snorkeling or scuba diving! We had a wonderful time in Croatia and we would like to go back only this time by boat. Don't miss Dubrovnik (of course) - it's an amazing town - so beautiful! Go to Mljet and Korcula, stop at Mali Ston and try the restaurants, specially the Kapetanova Kuca, and try the oysters and the fish au salt, and enjoy yourselves as we did. PS. don't cross the border!
