Iberostar Epidaurus Hotel

Stayed here with our two four year olds, just out of the main season and was pleased to find the hotel still busy.
Was really pleased with this choice. We flew from Manchester with Thomsonfly which was cheap and then a quick taxi ride from the airport which cost 200 kuna. We booked online via the Iberostar website and the hotel reception was really helpful via internet as all the 'family' rooms were booked up. We requested a large room with an extra bed which is exactly what we got and the room was a really good size - double and a 2 singles. Only downside to the room was that it didn’t have a sea view and it was in E block which was a bit of a trek from the pool area and no lift to the floor level we stayed on - hard work if you have small children or disabilities - though I guess if you asked for a specific room the staff would probably arrange it for you.
It is a 3 star. The Albatross next door is probably a bit posher but didn't seem to do family rooms but not much to choose between them really.
The hotel was all-inclusive. I was actually pleasantly surprised after having heard mixed reports on all-inclusives. There was lots of choice, very fresh food, plenty of soft drinks etc. We barely spent any money really. The dining room was a bit canteen style but you could sit outside on the terrace which was nice, and have fresh meat and fish cooked for you. Guests were of all nationalities - english being very much the minority which was refreshing after having spent hols in the Balearics previously. Staff were very friendly, especially the Star Friends. Our boys loved the entertainment for kids and the mini club which they virtually had to themselves as schools had gone back. There were countless games and exercise classes for adults too - we being reserved brits did not join in but the Italians and Germans seemed to love it!
The outdoor pools were fine but freezing cold as was the sea but it was mid-Sept - may have been more bearable in August! Cavtat is a 20 min walk - very nice after dinner to walk off the all inclusive food. Dubrovnik cheap and easy to get to by boat or bus for a day trip. We actually spent a week at the hotel and then a further week in Dubrovnik in an apartment so only went there once from Cavtat by mistake as were trying to visit an island and didn't manage to catch the boat back to Cavtat.
All in all we had a really good time and would recommend this hotel to families and couples not fazed by being the only Brits surrounded by all other euros. Value for money was excellent for what you get.
