This was our second visit to this hotel, the previous year we had stayed on a full board basis but were not so impressed with the food. Bed and breakfast was much better and it enabled us to try some of the great restaurants in the town. The hotel is great and I do... more

Cavtat is lovely. Small resort with varied restaurants and a fab harbour where cruisers and yachts call in regularly (not the ocean going sizes). Dubrovnik is not too far away. Public transport is available but a car is essential to get off the beaten track. The hotel is... more

Fantastic Holiday
We stayed at the Hotel Croatia for 1 week in July and would highly recommend it. It was a fantastic hotel and resort. The hotel rooms were immaculate and food in the hotel was excellent. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful. The scenery is breathtaking and because the hotel is quite high up you get great views from many of the balconies and terraces. Because of where the hotel is there are quite a few steps to get to and from both the beach at harbourside and the facilties at Cavtat but the walk is very pleasant and is a nice way to stretch your legs after a relaxing day on the beach. There are two beaches at the Hotel Croatia. They are not sandy beaches but are more like rocky bathing platforms. Sounds a bit strange but we really liked it. One beach overlooks the adriatic sea and the other beach is harbourside. A day trip to Dubrovnik is a must. There is a regular bus service from Cavtat the number 10 and also there are water taxis which go throughout the day from Cavtat harbour. There are a handful of bars and restaurants in Cavtat which are all very nice. Hotel Croatia is definately the best hotel in Cavtat.
Fantastic hotel
We stayed at the hotel Croatia on the last night of our honeymoon and couldn't have chosen a better place to spend our final evening away. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive and the room was lovely - although we'd like to stay in a suite next time. We stayed on a B&B basis and the breakfast was great, a huge choice and the dishes were frequently replenished. The steps down to the town/sea are a bit tricky and a bit of a pain if you realise that you've forgetten something when you get down to the sea front but at least you get a work out going back up them. We lunched at the bar by the sea and the food was lovely there as well. Maybe a little more pricey for drinks but then you've got a beautiful surrounding with steps that you can get into the sea so the price you pay I suppose. I'd recommend for anyone to give this hotel a visit. One thing that I would advise however is to get a cab to/from the airport as its only a 5 minute journey so would work out cheaper than the 100 Kuna each way (£10) that the hotel charge for the shuttle.
If you want to be treated like a guest don't stay here!
My wife, infant and i spent two weeks in June 2007 in Cavtat and stayed the whole time at the Hotel Croatia. Basically this hotel has excellent pool facilities, very clean rooms and a good breakfast. However too many negatives to meet my expectation. The welcome is non-existent and generally you wil feel like an absolute nuisance throughout your stay. Very unfortunate! At one point i refused to approach the reception any further as my blood was boiling! So my wife took over responsibilities until i calmed down. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY IN THE POOLSIDE CAFE!! The most reluctant service and poor food wil follow! (unless you have the good fortune to have the small man with a grey moustache serve you). Forget a residents bar too! We were very reluctanly served at 1245am - very reluctantly. No matter what you ask for in this hotel you will generally feel like a nuisance! Change your money in the OPTo bank in the town and save commission charges and a grumpy face. Forget tea/coffee in the room or an iron and double beds are two singles at different levels. Cavtat makes up for this however and it is a pity the service is so poor in Hotel Croatia. Nonetheless it has the pool facilities and a good location. Would stay again but would make sure i had everything i needed before arriving, There is also a little bit of a moneygrabnbing attitude too - trying to make you come to the hotel buffet at night even though it is a buffet! 5 star in name only. Not sure about other hotels in the area. To sum up: if you have few expectations with regard to service you will be fine here!
Fantastic holiday
This was our first visit to Croatia and we couldn't have picked a better place. The hotel Croatia is first class. The food is excellent, friendly and attentive staff, the scenery amazing. In the dining room you have the same table for the whole of your visit, you share this with other people. Usually 6 or 8. I was really sceptical at first but it works well and you make new friends and from those that have been there a while, learn about the area. Drinks in the hotel are a little expensive but that's not unusual. Much cheaper in the town of Cavtat. A lovely harbour to sit and drink and people watch. The hotel is set in the cliffs so to get down to Cavtat (10 mins) there's 100 and odd steps. Ok going down but not so going back up. But it works off all the fabulous food.! Definately not suitable for the less mobile though. We went on a trip to Montenegro. This was excellent, a very nice day out. Book a sea view - well worth the extra cost. Overall, 10/10 for us and we can't wait to go back
Heaven
Visited the hotel with two girlfriends and boyfriend. It was an amazing experience, we had many the relaxing night sat out on our balcony and strolling down to the village at night for a fresh fish meal(beware the scampi)and falling back to our hotel(up a hundread steps, fine after a bottle of wine). The location of the hotel is perfect, just a taxi ride into dubrovnik(taxi's are quite expensive, expect to pay €20-€30 to dubrovnik). Hotel is not 5* Star by Irish standards, but so clean and staff so layed-back and helpful. The nightclub was empty most the nights we were there but I presume it was low season(very funny though, we had our own personal dj). Not a partyers paradise but definately a place to chill out, leave all stresses at home, I would definately reccommend for time-out of the real world...we will be back.
Would recommend the Croatia Hotel in Cavtat
We have just returned from a very relaxing week in the Croatia Hotel in Cavtat. We booked through Portland Direct who are cheaper and more effiicient (having changed our reservation due to work committments) than most holiday companies. The hotel is only 5 mins from the airport, but the occasional plane overhead is not intrusive. The hotel check in was very quick although they would benefit from giving a plan of the hotel which is rather odd. Reception is on the 4th floor and the pool and spa facilities on the 5th, Our room was on the 3rd floor and although the views higher up are fantasic our view was just as beautiful. There are some lovely walks with stunning views right on the door step, these are easily found, you just need to venture out on your own to benefit from the amazing scenary on your door step. We were half board but chose to eat out a couple of nights. There are lots of local restaurants in the old town, a walk down 100 odd steps, however, coming home is easier depending on the amount of wine consumed over dinner! Although there is not a beach as such there are lots of 'bathing' areas and the crystal clear sea proves very inviting, although look out for the sea urchins (took me a good half hour to prise a few 'thorns' from my husbands foot!). Not much in the way of nightlife, however, this may improve as the season hots up, but if you enjoy good weather, beautiful scenary, relaxing meals and romantic sunsets this holiday will suit you. Cavtat (pronounced Savat) is up and coming and the likes of Roman Abramovich are said to own a property here. There are also some magnificinat boats that moor at the port, themselves worth a good look. All in all we have had a wonderful week and will definately be exploring other regions of Croatia in the near future.
ok for a couple of nights
Cavtat is a beautiful setting and we spent the first 2 nights in the centre of the port. We then moved to the Croatia as the weather was unsettled and we wanted more facilities. We visited the public areas and were quite impressed initially. However on arrival at the hotel, the welcome was not friendly especially compared to the previous small hotel we had stayed at. Bedroom was very drab and outdated but we did have sea view; we were on a lower floor which was dark. Very noisy - could hear next door's tv and bathroom. Facilities ok but everything extra, towel at pool, sauna and steamroom about €11 each. Indoor pool very chilly. Geared towards the inclusive tour package and the conference market - we were happy to escape back down into the town for our meals and to find a good local ambiance. Hotel could do with training their staff in good customer service, with a smile!
Croatia, Cavat, hotel Croatia - Fab!
Croatia is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever been too, the hotel and location were fab very relaxing and food was really nice hotel was expensive for food and drink but a 5 min walk into cavtat and food/drink is a lot less expensive, only problem was with Top flight who we booked the Holiday with, in their broucher you are advised of a €200 supplement for a sea view room ( but the hotel advised us that all rooms are see view) other holiday makers that we were speaking to advised they refused to pay for the supplement when booking and the charge was waivered, but I never questioned it so I had to pay the €200 for a sea view room when all rooms are sea view - so be warned - but other than that an excellent holiday and I will be going back to the same location and hotel but not with Topflight
lovely location
Just returned from a week at the Croatia Hotel. One of the cleanest we have stayed in, both the hotel and resort. Don't be put off by the steps to the bay, they are quite therapeutic on the way home back up after dinner in one of the many restaurants on the harbour! Staff were all OK, breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Outdoor pool a bit chilly to say the least but the indoor one was OK if you kept moving, Would go back without hesitation. We felt the seaview was worth the extra and would pay the same again.
Excellent hotel in pretty resort
My wife and I found the Croatia Hotel near impossible to fault. We didn't have a sea view because we thought a supplement of over £100 for the week was a bit much. But we were perfectly happy with the room we were allocated, and thought the standards throughout the hotel were first class. The indoor and outdoor pools are excellent, and some of the views over the bay are breath-taking. The price of the view, however, is a couple of hundred steps down to the bay of Cavtat, which cannot be avoided if you want to leave the hotel by foot. Fine going, but a bit of a struggle coming back when full of food and wine. Not advisable for the very elderly or infirm. I thought the buffet dinner for those booking half-board was extremely good value for the supplement. It didn't stop us going out for some evening meals, but we found the restaurants in Cavtat lacked variety, all offering similar menus. As others have pointed out, drinks in the hotel are much more expensive than elsewhere, but the service is good, and after a hard day's sightseeing, the hotel is a comfortable place to relax, especially out on the terrace, looking down on the bay. A boat trip to nearby Dubrovnik is a must, as is a walk round the city walls. We also enjoyed the three islands cruise and a trip to Mostar, a mostly Muslim city in Bosnia which suffered badly in the Balkan War and still bears the scars today. Overall, a nice hotel on a lovely stretch of pine-fringed coastline. There are no sandy beaches in the area, only pebbly or rocky ones. The airport is very close to Cavtat but the planes are no bother. Weather every bit as good as other Mediterranean resorts. My neighbour, who comes from that part of the world, says it's a bit too hot in July and August.
