I have stayed at this hotel twice, the first time for 2 weeks. I will be staying for a third time in the coming January. Each time my son and I have had a really nice room for 2. It is always comfortable with everything you need and our chambermaids always do a really good job tidying my son's toys. The staff are always really friendly too. I speak German and they are quite happy to hold conversations with me so i can keep practising. The first year was tricky with no ski bus but after a few of us spoke with the owner, the next year the ski bus stops outside the hotel, in fact the driver usually turns round in Going and drops Blattlhof hotel guests off on his way back so that we do not have to cross the road. Although i agree with the other review, the underpass is a tad slippy but i do not think it belongs to the hotel and they are not allowed to put salt down in Austria.
I always prefer the German menu because i am familiar with the dishes. If my son didn't fancy any of the food they were quite happy to get him whatever he fancies, i think it is definately a hotel designed for families. I think the dining area is no smoking and they are quite happy for guests to stay at their dinner table for as long as they like so this is what we usually did.
The farmers buffet is really good and there is a welcome drink each week.
My son's favourite things about the hotel is that he can have whatever he likes to eat, they always give him really large icecreams and the staff always talk to him even though he doesnt yet understand much German. He wouldn't want to go to any other hotel when skiing.
Another useful thing is you can check in as soon as your room is ready and that they look after the luggage on the day of departure so that you can have a last morning look round the village.

Have just come back from a weeks skiing and want to go straight back! We were a group of 3 and stayed in one huge room with a bath, we all had proper beds no bed settees. Very comfortable. Nearly all residents Dutch or German but very nice people and it's quite good to have to get by.
Food was unexpectedly good, 4 courses with salad buffet and a vegetarian option included in 3 choices of main meal (watch for the translations though -not totally accurate). The staff are really helpful. The one thing that was missing was a no smoking lounge area to sit in after your meal (or at least we didn't find it!) and since we went no smoking in the UK anywhere where there is smoking seems difficult to cope with now! The sauna/ turkish bath area was fabulous and despite the fact that the Germans and Dutch went in nude we used bikini's (if they didn't like it they could leave!).
The ski bus stop(free) and post bus stop (pay- but you can go further afield on this) is right outside the hotel and goes to both Going and Ellmau. If you want to walk into Ellmau it's 15 to 20 mins but actually it's quite good to warm the muscles before skiing and stagger back if you've indulged in too much apres-ski. The only problem is the busy main road. There is an underpass but when we went it was treacherous with ice so you risk life or limbs a bit! Not a family hotel but if you want a quiet relaxing hotel this is the one for you.

We really enjoyed our weeks stay at the Blattlhoff. It is a very traditional hotel, fairly basic but comfortable. One thing we struggled with a bit was the language. Neither of us speak german and there was only one member of staff who could speak english fluantly. This said it did not cause any major problems.
The hotel is incredibly warm! We had to sleep with our door proped open so it was good that we were on a higher floor. Otherwise the rooms were very comfortable.
At mealtimes we were given a choice of dishes to choose from. Mainly traditional Austrian cuisine. There was always plenty of choice. Vegetarians were not as well catered for. When a person we sat with for dinner said they were veggie they were presented with a plate of.............. various boiled vegetables! One gripe we did have was that they would only give us bottled water rather than tapped which amounted up at the end of the week. Whether this was due to a language barrier or that it was just hotel policy i am unsure.
The hotel is not positioned in the main town of Ellmau and a bus is needed to get into town on a morning. This isn't too much trouble though as the buses are very frequent. It is however at the side of a very busy road, the opposite side to the main town but there is an underpass to use but if you walk back from town on a night (10mins) it was a little dark in places. Luckily the ski hireplace we used provided a store we could use at the end of the night althought the hotel does have storage (heated boot pegs also). If you do store your ski's in Ellmau then a bus us needed from there also to get to the main train that takes you up the slope.
I must also take the opportunity to sing the praises of the Neilson rep. The guy we had was helpful, friendly and approachable.
We would definitely encourage people to stay at this hotel as it provided everything required for a confortable stay. There was also a sauna but we did not use this.
