The resort is a lovely relaxing place, and it is very easy to get a boat to other resorts around Lake Garda. Thomson have wonderful day trips to Venice and Verona. Sirmione with it's roman ruins is definitely worth a visit. Hotel du Lac is right on the lakeside with... more

Excellent Hotel
We have just returned from Bardolino and cannot praise highly enough the hotel and its staff. Nothing too much trouble. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and Bardolino is a beautiful resort. Hotel in wonderful position directly on the lake and to have breakfast in the morning on the terrace looking out across the lake was delightful. We shall return. Lynne Turner Solihull England
Du Lac - very impressed
We stayed for 7 nights in May 2006 (wife & I, late 20's in age) and had a great time. My wife is a veggie with nut allergy and the maitre d was superb and that is one of the main reasons we intend to go back this year. Each evening, having noted our dietary needs, he would tell me the main menu and then suggest a suitable alternative, most of the time being a bespoke meal for my wife and differenet each night. Rooms were clean. Not enormous, but you don't go on holiday to a hotel to sit in a room all day! Cleanliness - excellent. Agree the "beach" is an overstatement, but we decided to go out and about and therefore did not use this area. We liked the bar and found the staff friendly and chatty. enjoyed the entertainment. There were germans there but so what - just ignore them. We loved the Du lac and will go back this year. Also thought the Royal in Sorrento is very good too.
Overated
This hotel is run by a chain called Europlan, which seems to be a German Company The comments I have read online and in the brochure are really overated. The Du Lac which incorporates the Bellvue in my opinion is not of 4* standard, more likely of a 3*. I was really disappointed with the hotel and the faclilities it provided. The decor was very basic and only one small bar which was awful. There was no nice lounge, only a tv lounge which is not used and is a waste of space and the decor in the hotel needs totally renovating to a 4* standard. We had ants in our room and the view I had in the main hotel was partly overlooking the lake from a side angle, but the main view was of a full Carvan park, sounds and smells annoying. The location of the hotel was overated as was the supposed 'private beach' which was really a pebble car park with sunbeds on - what a joke. The pool is the worst pool I have ever seen, did not use as it was totally uninviting. The dining room had no atmosphere, the breakfast and dinner was boring and tasteless and despite booking for 14 days we only ate in there for 5 days, whilst we ate in the town, the food in this part of Italy is not the best we have tasted. The whole resort and hotel was over-run by Germans. Whilst I was there we spoke to lots of people over 60 who return year after year, so very much appeals to the older generation, this is probably why the feedback is so high on this hotel. I did not find the hotel staff that friendly, did not seem to do anything. cleaners very nice. My recommendation is don't book this hotel as you will be disappointed.
stayed at Bellevue
We stayed at the Bellevue part of the Du Lac in August. Accommodation very good.We paid extra fora lake view room and although the view was obscured by trees felt it was worth it..Did not see inside the rooms at the du lac but felt the accommodation at the bellevue looked superior. Many of the rooms at the du lac had no view and no balcony to speak of.I suppose it depends what is important to you. As stated by other reviewers the food and service was excellent as is the positionof the hotel. Swimming pool not so good-the sun bathing area around it quite small as is the partopen to the sunshine. When we were there most of it taken up by young children and their parents-probably because the lake is not really suitable for this age range. Lake swimming good but the first day I saw a snake in the water and this put me off but not my husband who thoroughly enjoyed his swimming. Only niggle-they give you yellow towels for swimming and we found it difficult to get clean ones after they had been used a few days.Maid said they had run out.
A great place to relax
This was my first time in Bardolino, Lake Garda or Italy for that matter and I really did feel that my girlfriend and I had struck it very lucky when we checked in to the Du Lac. A coach from Verona airport should take no more than 40 minutes. We had a large, comfortable room on the second floor (front) of the main hotel building, ie the building that houses the lounge, bar and restaurant. The decor was of a very high standard and the room was very comfortable. At the front, ie facing the main road, there is some noise from the car wash between the road and the hotel. Having said that, if you are out of your room for the main part of the day, this shouldn't bother you. I agree with all the positive comments I've read here about the high quality of food and service in the restaurant, which is able to make you feel perfectly at ease in its classy surroundings. Personally, we found bar and reception services to be up to the same high standard, but on a busy evening I think waiting times at the bar could be long. The pool is well heated in April/May and is very enjoyable to swim or relax in. The feeling of swimming from inside to outside is really enjoyable. The cleanliness of the entire hotel, from the "beach" to the terrace, the restaurant and the guest rooms is exceptional and the gardens (with some beautiful trees) are very well maintained. The Du Lac is a friendly hotel in a town that also feels friendly - it's easy to feel at home and relaxed straight away. We have every intention of going back to this lovely corner of Italy soon.
Best location in Bardolino
Just back from an early break at Lake Garda staying at the Hotel Du Lac. This hotel holds the best spot in Bardolino, in my opinion, as there is no road separating it from the lake itself, only the promenade. ROOMS. On arrival we were allocated a room in the annexe, which also houses the various gym facilities, swimming pool (half indoor, half outdoor and nicely heated during the early part of the year). This building has a 'utility' feel to it and our room was of the 'duplex' variety, the sitting area and shower room being on the lower level and the bed on an upper platform. There were masses of storage but I did find the furnishings a little depressing. The balcony was standing room only but had a nice view of the lake. The cleanliness was first class, as it was everywhere in this hotel. THE MAIN HOTEL The loung area was a little drab. The dining rooms are really pleasant and look out over a terrace covered by blinds, which then leads to the 'beach' area with sunbeds, and the lake can be seen beyond that. This has to be the best view of the lake from a diners point of view in Bardolino. FOOD Excellent buffet breakfast, hot and cold food provided. Dinner consists of several courses. Waiting staff quick and friendly. Also included is a fabulous salad bar. VEGETARIANS do suffer when abroad and, although all that could be offered each evening to a veggie staying was Omlette for the main course, the provision of that salad bar did make all the difference. Again - fantastic cleanliness, super white napkins, good wine selection. There is also a bar with a fair selection of drinks. There didn't appear to be anything planned in the way of entertainment but the lack of it didn't detract from the hotels charm. In my opinion, this hotel has to be the nicest in Bardolino. I can't describe any of the rooms in the main building, unfortunately, but I suspect they were superior to the one we had, although I also suspect that we had more room and more storage space to make up for it! I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area. Bardolino is a pretty, friendly, secure feeling resort. We would definitely return.
Will always return
I've stayed at the Du Lac and it's sister hotel the Bell Vue 3 times and will return in 2006. My wife and I think it's so relaxing and peaceful. When we arrive from the airport we dump our suitcases and walk into town along the shores of the lake to have lunch in a lakeside restaurant. By the time we've got there it feels like a weght has gone from your shoulders. The staff at the Du Lac are excellent and especially Vito, the head waiter. The food is 5 star and I would recommend the hotel(s) to anyone
Luxury at the du Lac
I have just returned from a lovely holiday in the du Lac. Having stayed in various resorts around the lake, I found the du Lac the best choice I had made. Rooms were larger than some other 4 star hotels in the North and South of the Lake. The decor was modern, the entire hotel was very clean and well-kept. Food was delicious, 4 course evening meals were provided every evening, and if there was nothing on the menu to your taste the waiters went to great length to offer an alternative. This superb friendly service was the best characteristic of the du Lac, from maids to bar staff and in the restaurant the level of service was fantastic. They were friendly and professional. Breakfast can be taken outside on the verandah, overlooking the lake. The du Lac also has a private beach which is delightful, there are plenty of loungers and umbrellas, even at the height of the summer there's no need to "book" your lounger early in the morning! The beach is screened by some trees which gives privacy from the lake path which lies at the bottom of the beach. A short walk a long the path and you arrive in the main piazza of Bardolino. I would return to the du lac at any time of the year.
Mediocre except for Food
Bardolino is one of the better resort towns on Lake Garda, and quite lively during long summer evenings. It is located on the south-eastern part of the lake, so if you are travelling by car, it is quite easy to get to from the motorways. The hotel is a merger of 2 hotels and is formally called Hotel Du lac et Bellevue and it has 3 close together buildings. We were staying at what was called the "Dependance" of Du lac which houses the pool, gym and saunas. I am not aware of any difference in the standard of rooms in the 3 different buildings. Although the hotel is literally a stones throw from Lake Garda, many of the rooms have either no or hardly any lake view. The decor in the hotel and its rooms is very ordinary and rather faded. The rooms however are clean, quite spacious and have good bathrooms. You struggle to shake of the hotel's average 3-star feeling until you turn up for breakfast or dinner. Breakfasts are better than your average 3-4 star Italian hotel breakfasts; and perhaps as a big proportion of tourists to lake Garda are German, the quality of the food specially the bread is much better than one would expect. Half-board dinners are also very good with excellent salad and dessert buffets, and expertly cooked meals. The pool is quite large but not very inviting: most of it is indoor with only a small part of it poking out of the building to catch some sun. I would say the pool here is better for swimmers than those who just want to plunge or splash about. It is definitely not suitable for very young children. Service is generally good apart from some of the rather abrupt reception staff who are mostly too busy on the phone to have time to give travelling tips. This is a pretty average hotel apart from its good food. I would definitely try another hotel when I return to Garda.
summer 2004
This is a beautiful resort and the hotel was friendly, clean and the food was marvelous. The pool was adequate but not for sitting next to all day, however the lake is lovely to swim in. We had a super time and will go back very soon.
