Palace Hotel

This is a perfect location in Hvar, right on the harbor. They are about to undergo necessary renovations, so the price will skyrocket. There is no airconditioning and if you leave your window open, it is EXTREMELY noisy all night (not an exaggeration). There is a pool (small) and the staff is absolutely wonderful (the best we had in all of the Balkans). The rooms are only serviceable, nothing special, but are clean.

After reading some of the other reviews I was concerned. I had a group of 40 singles and wanted a property that was centrally located in Hvar town while not breaking the budget. Everyone loved this hotel. We all had seaview rooms and it's in the best location. The rooms are basic, but clean and everything worked well. There's a great outdoor patio that overlooks the Piazza and harbor where we had our meetings. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Plus, this is not in a loud location. Although the location is excellent, that is the only thing that can describe this hotel. The hotel is badly in need of renovation, but the owners are not ashamed to charge very high rates for rooms that don't even rate 1 star. The plumbing is so poor, that the bathrooms stink of sewage. The furniture is from Tito's time, cheap and falling apart. The hotel is not airconditioned either, yet you still pay at least 125 Euro for an extremely simple room with no view. Location cannot be beaten - 30 second stroll to main square in old town. Other reviews are accuarate - old tired rooms with 1960's furntiure. Looks like it hasn't been painted in 30 years. Totally overpriced and in desparate need of a makeover. You will not spend much time in your room! But what awesome potential - it is crying out for some TLC. We booked this hotel because of the location near our arrival port and the 3 stars advertised on the tourist guide. The hotel indeed looked like an historical palace when we arrived in front of it. But we hadn't seen the rooms yet... After checking-in at the spartan yet large lobby, we reached our rooms and all of the sudden we found ourself in a cheap motel. I am shocked that anyone who stayed at this hotel could have anything positive to say. This hotel is a dump all around. I knew it going in from the travel boards, but I thought how bad can it really be. First of all, our travel agent booked this hotel and we also had breakfasts and dinner included. We are a norwegian couple. Last year we spent a week in hotel Palace in Hvar. It was very nice, the service was excellent, the personnel very helpful. It’s a hotel in an old part of town overlooking the harbor and the view from hotel is magnificent! And we heard that the new owner has arrived, and that all the hotels are going to be renovated! We are really looking forward to the next visit!

Great location in the central square of Hvar Town, but that's about all this hotel has going for it. More than a little run down, the hotel is in need of some updating. Unless your standing, the sea view rooms on the top floor (4th floor) have limited views because the bottom of the window sill is about 4.5 feet from the floor. The non-sea view rooms aren't worth the stay: they open right to the side of the hill.

We stayed at the Palace Hotel for two weeks in June 05. Ok I accept other correspondants view that it is time for it to have a bit of a revamp but we still found it a wonderful place to stay. We were lucky in the respect that we were allocated a room with a balcony overlooking the harbour, and if you closed the doors and put on the air fan there was no dusturbance from noise outside at night. I booked this hotel purely on its number of stars and its "look". An old ducal Palace can only be fabulous. Yes, it is one of the best location / building of the island, but stay outside. Unfortunatly this place hasn't been refurbished for a very long time and the staff was far from beeing friendly. Eventhough our booking was for half board, we were told we had to pay more, as the price we were quoted wasn't including dinners.
