We arrived April 21/07 on a prepaid golf package. We were turned away when advised "Rooms under renovation" while others were checking in! We were rerouted for 2 of our 5 days to another Hotel - the Paris and advised that: 1 - For another equivalent suite we would have to... more

Has gone seriously downhill!!
from Pacifica_traveler
When we first stayed here in Feb. '01 we had the most awesome experience....HUGE room w/ strip view, tons of free shows, just a lot of fun! This past Christmas ('03) we tried it again.....WARNING.....almost everything is dark during Christmas so there is nothing to do but gamble....their slots are a LOT tighter than they used to be. Our room was much smaller and had a view of a warehouse. In the past, you could bypass the lines for the buffet (which used to be great but now is barely mediocre) just by being a guest, but now you have to join some sort of Platinum club or something or they treat you like anyone off the street. They should have kept things like they were! I won't go back.....
I absolutely loved staying at the Rio.

I have stayed at many of the hotels in Vegas but none that has shown me courtesy from the hotel staff along with a clean beautiful room with an awesome view of the strip and the mountains. I usually have something to complain about with staying at a hotel either the room or the hotel Staying there I could not complain at all. Now that one of my favorite restaurants is there too - Rosemary's - I will definitely be back !!!
Rio is off the hook!!!!

Rio is always my favorite place to stay although sometimes it can be a bit expensive. Get a Rewards card to earn point when you gamble. You can get HUGE discounts on the rooms. My Platinum card also gets me to the front of the VERY long line at the best buffet in Vegas. One reviewer says he doesn't like Rio because the slots don't pay out. LEARN HOW TO PLAY CRAPS!!! Practice on your PC for free. It's worth it!!! Rio has some of the largest rooms in their price range. The floor-to-ceiling windows are very nice. But what's up with the window over looking the SHOWER???? If anyone has an answer to this, please let me know. Cool if you with your lady, but when traveling with the boys, it's kind'a g*y. There should be an option. I LOVE RIO ---- I LOVE VEGAS!!!!
The real deal on the Rio
from A TripAdvisor Member
Just got back from the Rio-spent 4 days there in December. I had heard such great things about the Rio that I had to give it a try. Also, by far, the Total Rewards club is the best slot club I've been in - very generous with comps. The staff at the Rio is excellent. Check in was easy and the rooms are very large and clean, although when I think of an 'all suite' hotel, I think of more than just a mini-fridge in the room. Everyone from the front desk staff to the maid service was friendly. It is also the only place on the strip where the slot techs were always quick to get to a machine. That was the good, now here is the not so good. When you first visit the Rio, the mardi gras atmosphere is fun and exciting. After you've been there a couple of days it gets old and annoying. This place is geared for the twenty-something crowd - lots of young people. Also, they've got these little stages set up all around the casino and every 1/2 hour or so, blaring music will start and a half naked girl will go up and dance to a song - reminding you of a strip club enviornment. This got on my nerves mainly because the music was extremely loud. As far as food goes, I didn't find anywhere that had reasonable prices. Being that far from the strip - it cost a bundle just to eat. The shuttle to the strip was fine and the drivers were nice. All in all, I'd stay there again but only for a day or two. The slots are very tight as well.
Great Rooms!

Stayed at the Rio at the end of September, 2003. A bit off the strip, but wonderful rooms! We got a great deal staying mid-week. The food at the main hotel buffet was great but we hated the self serve computer touch-screens, it made you feel like you were at a cafeteria. I refused to leave a tip there. The show in the sky is something everyone should see.
loved the Rio

Stayed in the Masquerade Tower at the RIo. Great view, big comfortable rooms. Ate at the Bar and Grill- very good. The casino is a big Party! Was there October 2003.
Nice pool, large rooms
from rtr2002
I stayed at the Rio in May 2002 with my family. We were very impressed with the very spacious rooms and pool area. Our rooms faced the mountains and offered a very pretty view. The pool area is very large and there is plenty of room to sprawl out. Although we knew the hotel was off the strip when booking, I would not stay there again. It feels like something is missing when you can't just walk out of your hotel casino and into the next. The VooDoo Lounge offers a wonderful view--go before they start charging admission and watch the sunset. The carnival show is fun, but not worth making a special trip for. All in all, this is a very nice hotel.
hated it

I had heard some good things about the Rio. Well, I didn't find anything good about it. Stay on the strip! We ate at the Carnival Buffet, I have had better food at the Home TowneBuffet for a lot less money. People were rude. I will never go to this place again.
Don't waste your money!

We were hesitant about staying at the Rio when we first arrived because it wasn't on the strip however that was the least of our worries. WE ARE EXPERIENCED travelers so when we tell you this was the worst place to stay believe us. let me explain.... the rooms were nice the night life there is good however if you are a gambler DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL...(especially if a slot player) We were at this property 3 days and saw only 4 jackpots being paid in 3 days!! ... and they were dollars.. There were so many nickels that just ate your money and the quarters you can FORGET.. The money we saw and spent in these machines was ridiculous.. People just kept pumping 20 after 20 dollar bill in these machines and NOTHING.. I mean NOTHING not even 30 credits. We spent 3,000 between the both of us and no play at all..The machines like no other casino say on them that they pay out up to "400 coins" which we found odd and a scam.. so that means if you only get 400 quaters which is one hundred dollars your jackpot light will go off.. they hand pay you and thats considered a jackpot.. the machine then is reset and good luck after that hitting on it.. i never saw such a thing!! Please take it from us and stay away.. The buffet was rated (so they say) #1 in vegas, we had the brunch buffet and it was terible.. i mean terrrible like dormitory food.. only good thing were the desserts and he shrimp cocktail(which you had to peel) The live entertainment going on while your playing is ao amateur you feel like your watching NICKELODEON kids (about 16-18) dressed in rio costumes singing and dancing to cheesy 70's songs.. Being off the strip was so confining however the casino does provide a shuttle to Harrahs.. TAKE IT.. it has a disney world tour bus feel to it but atleast it got us the heck out of this money hungry casino.. If your smart you will learn from us and never gamble at this propery.. It is merely a casino for a younger crowd that wants to get drunk ,go to the nightclubs and play one quarter at a time.. Playing the max bet will ensure you will be out of a lot of money like we were with nothing to do for 5 hours on sunday except watch people put in tons of money in machines and never hit.. Play tables they cant reset or rig the machines.. What a dissapontment this place was .. we had been so excited to be in vegas. PLEASE PLEASE stay away and if you go please let us know..We have no reason to lie about any of this ..just the opportunity to WARN others..
Room gets 4 stars, but that's about it.

Stayed at the Rio to try something different. I normally stay at Harrah's. I get the room for free at either place. Rooms were excellent. Free in-room coffee is back. Mexican resturant on the second floor is very good. Gambling was terrible. Casino is too far from strip. Bartenders were not very friendly. No access to the swimming pools without going through the main part of the casino. I didn't win at all gambling at the Rio. On the last day before going to the airport I went to Harrah's. In about 1 hour I won back ($1100) about half of the money I lost at the Rio. From now on I'll stay at Harrah's . It's more centrally located being on the Strip.

We had prebooked a holiday for five nights with the Rio. Upon arrival we were advised there was not a room for us, although I did have a written confirmation from the Rio Hotel with a confirmation number. We were sent to the Paris Hotel via cab and advised that we... more
