" Perfect if you are nocturnal "

I have just come back from the Orquidea and I have a few complaints. Saying that, I have many positive points too about our holiday but unfortunately the negatives outweigh the positives. This is without doubt the noisiest place I have ever stayed. The coming and going of people through the night from midnight to breakfast time is completely draining. We didn't have one proper sleep in 2 weeks and we came home miserable and exhausted vowing never to go back. It completely ruined our holiday which we had saved long and hard to pay for. It was impossible to sleep due to arrivals in the early hours, youngsters coming in and out and several parties. There were also the inconsiderate guests who ran up and down the corridors at all hours screaming and shouting.
Our first night there we ate at the famous "Mels" and we all (myself, my husband and 2 kids (6yrs and 3yrs)) had food poisoning. The food was poor quality to say the least, expensive and the service terrible. We weren't the only ones who had problems because talking to others around the pool during our stay, not one of them had a nice meal there and several were also ill. Avoid that one!
The rooms are tiny and very basic. There is one plug which is behind the fridge near the floor so you have to move it everytime you want to plug something in. Beware if you "upgrade" to a pool view room because they jet wash the furniture and pool area at around 5.30am most mornings and not one bed is spare by 6.30am. Due to the position of the apartments, it is used not only by people staying there but by anyone who happens to walk past and fancies the look of it.
The positives are Joe Joe the resident entertainer (who worked constantly whilst we were there to get everyone involved in the activities and was great with the kids), the pool, although packed was really nice, the reception staff very helpful (unlike our rep) and it's position on the promanade was excellent.
A word of warning though. We haven't been abroad for a couple of years and the cost of basic eating and drinking shocked us. A meal for 4 (2 kids, 2 adults) without wine came to 70+ euros, with wine 90+. It was expensive to eat in too as the little supermarkets nearby aren't cheap either.
All that said, it was wonderful to watch our kids playing in the pool, learning to swim and joining in with the mini disco every night.
I'm sure this isn't the worst place to stay in the resort but take ear plugs and you'll be fine. We won't be going back to these apartments but we may go back to the resort one day once we've recovered from this one!

" I have just returned from santa... "

I have just returned from santa eulalia with my husband, daughter, son-in-law and their 11 month baby. My husband and I had been there before and had a fantastic holiday. That is why we suggested going back. The resort is still as lovely as ever, very safe for children as the main promanade is traffic free. There is a lovely relaxed feeling, no yobs ! If you want a good english breakfast go to Mel's on the sea front open from 9.00am, you will get plenty to eat at a good price, good friendly service. The worst meal we had was at Pinos situated at the rear entrance of the hotel to the right, food not good, and quite grubby. The restaurants down by the Marina are worth a visit and not too expensive. The hotel Orquidea is still nice but is mainly German now, you need to start queing for a sunbed at 8.50am to stand a chance of getting one. The pool is nice, very clean, a bit on the small side but sufficient. The bar staff are very nice as are all the staff in the hotel. Bar snacks are available by the pool, the pizza is particularly good. The rooms are fairly basic, no kettle or hairdryer but they are clean and air conditioned. If you walk down towards the Marina, you can get a boat trip to Es cana which is more lively and has a hippy market on a Wednesday, however watch the children with the roads, its much busier (return trip 18 euros) there are also other boat trips available.

On the whole we have a great holiday, didn't want to come home.

We booked through first choice and unfortunately flew with Air Europa. Although the actual flight was ok, we pre-ordered inflight food - on the way there we got the food about 30 minutes before landing, it was cold and had to be sent back, we it was re-served it was luke warm - the staff onboard, although pleasant were totally inefficient. On our journey home the cabin crew were even worse, we eventually got our food as the plane started to decend and that was only because we reminded them that we had not been fed (no drink either) this time the food was hot enough but within a few minutes of starting to eat, it was taken away from me because we were coming in to land - so it was a complete waste of money and we all went hungry (and thirsty).

" just returned, this is our second... "

just returned, this is our second visit here and it was as good as the last, really clean accommodation, lovely staff, especially the bar maid in the inside bar and the spanish version of Bruce Willis. Love the place and the hotel but not sure if we can afford next year with all the price inccreases, hope so but Ibiza is getting really pricey, with the exchange rate difference it is very high, may be it would be better to get half board.

" The hotel was in a great location and... "

The hotel was in a great location and very clean. It looked out onto the beach and was near some great restaurants and cafes. I would recommend the 'Balti House', 'La Rambla' and 'Mezzante'. They provided great vegetarian and gluten free dishes for myself and my family.

The apartments were away from noisy nightlife and had good entertainmant programmes for people interested in staying within the resort.

First Choice were the travel operator, they were good and answered most of our questions. The only thing what could of improved was the reception area as the games area made it noisy and un-relaxing to others.

" I went to La Orquidea with my family.... "

I went to La Orquidea with my family. It is a beautiful Spanish resort in Calahonda, Costa del Sol in Southern Spain.

We stayed in a lovely apartment that overlooked the main swimming pool and bar. The apartment was clean and well presented with decent sized bedrooms and kitchen.

There are 3 pools on the resort. Two of them were in the main area where the bar was and the other was by some other villas and was more secluded. One of the pools has a waterslide!

It is a great family resort. There is a lot to do in Costa del Sol but it helps a lot if you rent a car as there is not much in walking distance. We visited Puerto Banus which is the main marina where all the rich are said to keep yachts.

There is a small shopping complex called El Zocco which is roughly about a mile walk from the resort. Here you can get your shopping (the resort is self catering) and there are loads of little tourist shops. Another great place is Mijas Water Park and Mijas town. It's nice to see some of 'old' Spain.

This resort is a fantastic family holiday but the only downside is there isn't much to do nearby.

" My husband, myself and my parents... "

My husband, myself and my parents have just spent a week in the Orquidea Aparthotel. This accommodation is well above average and extremely geared up for the disabled traveller, with ramps to all areas.

The accommodation overlooks the beach and is directly on the esplanade. There are plenty of good restaurants/cafes offering various dishes.

We particularly liked Mel's English Cafe and the Arenas Restaurant, where the fresh fish was excellent.

The only thing that let First Choice down was their reps in resort - lack of knowledge or generally disinterested in the traveller is the best way to describe their attitude.

We would also highly recommend the water taxis that take you to Ibiza Town, Cala Llonga or Es Cana - they are inexpensive and you get to see the beautiful coastline. We would not recommend the Island Tour offered by First Choice as we did not see any sights on this trip but got to listen to the life history of the tour guide. We mentioned this to our rep upon returning to the hotel, but she seemed extremely disinterested!

All in all a fabulous resort and fabulous accommodation - well worth a visit.

" I and my boyfriend came back from the... "

I and my boyfriend came back from the Orquidea 2 weeks ago. When we pulled up at the hotel, even at night, the hotel looks very impressive from the outside. The receptionists were still smiling even though we arrived at 5 in the morning. They are all lovely and can't do enough to help you.

We went to our apartment, quite small, but very clean with a reasonable bathroom and kitchen (be warned there are no kettles, you have to boil water in a saucepan!). We paid an extra 3 Euros a night to have a pool view room and you can also see the sea if you stick you head quite far over the balcony.

The pool is quite deceiving, it looks quite big in the brochure, but is quite small with teenagers jumping in and out with inflatables all day.

The bar staff were quite friendly, but sometimes could come across as moody. The evening entertainment was alright, with a German Rep (Vin) and an English Rep (Kevin). They can be quite funny but the entertainment gets a bit repetitive sometimes.

I recommend going to an English Snack Bar called Mel's, along the beach front. The food is lovely, reasonably priced and show the sport (for the boyfriend). The staff are all lovely and deserve a lot of praise.

I would not go with First Choice again, the rep was very moody and the planes are diabolical, I am 5 foot 6 and got very angry when someone put their seat back when my knees were already hitting the back of their seat. I felt awful for my boyfriend, he's 6 foot 4!

Overall it was a good holiday, but next time I will probably go somewhere with a bit more action, it's very family orientated!

" My boyfriend and I have just got back... "

My boyfriend and I have just got back from a wonderful holiday in Santa Eulalia. We stayed at the Orquidea and would highly recommend it. The hotel is lovely and clean, the staff and helpful and friendly and the facilities were great.

The apartment/room we had was small but perfect for what we needed. It was very clean, had a great shower/bathroom and a lovely balcony overlooking the sea(that we paid a very small 3 Euros extra a day for-so worth it!)

The hotel is so close to a gorgeous beach and the lovely and very well kept promenade. The surroundings were beautiful and the sea is lovely and clean. This resort is perfect for families and couples wanting a quieter holiday. The hotel has the typical hotel entertainment(a bit cheesy but funny to watch) and the kids loved it.

We didn’t eat at the hotel, so can’t comment on the food, but we can comment on some of the restaurants we ate in!

Steer well clear of the Italian restaurant along the front. We had the worst meal there and the garlic bread was the worst id ever seen(stale and hardly any garlic on). I ordered spaghetti pesto and I literally got a plate full of spaghetti with a dollop of pesto in the middle.

We ended up laughing at how awful it was but I say don’t even bother! some people next to us disliked their meal also.

To be honest it seems that the restaurants don’t really care about the quality of food they put out along the front. it’s as if they think they are only tourists so don’t bother!

Another laughable meal I had was at the pinos restaurant I think it was called. (right on the seafront to the right of the Orquidea). I ordered a cheese and tomato toastie. I got 2 slices of rubber cheese, no margarine/butter, one bit of tomato and it slightly toasted from the outside. awful.

We would recommend the food more in "restaurant street" further up into the resort. We ate at the Chinese place a few times and the food was lovely(looks like a pagoda from outside)

By far the best meal we had was in Ibiza town itself after a visit to the old town(which is a must as its amazing!). it’s a small Italian called "restaurant troppo". I had the most amazing mushroom tagliatelle there, my boyfriend, a pizza and lasagne(we went twice!) and it was amazing food.

You can get a great brekkie from a lovely English owned cafe just around the corner from the hotel, and there is a supermarket and a spar very close too. the hotel has a small shop very well stocked with stuff and very reasonably priced lilos and beach mats!

The Volare cafe along the front does great baguettes for lunch and the guy that runs it is very friendly.

In Es Cana a great place to eat is the marvent, along the front! friendly waiters and great food.

A visit to the hippy market in Es Cana on a weds is a must, its wonderful! and we highly recommend a visit to the north of the island to san Miguel to the cave there. it’s nice to see in it but the bay it is in is truly stunning. The views from the top are breath taking!

Another great trip is to San Antoni's Cafe Mambo to watch the incredible sunset. people flock to the beach there to watch the wonderful sight! make sure you take your camera.

If you are driving around the island(so recommended) drive along the north east and find some lovely coves and beaches. Beware that the locals don’t particularly like using
the indicators!

All in all we had a truly wonderful holiday and would recommend both Santa Eulalia(Eulalia over here) and the Orquidea. We will be booking for next year soon!

" What a brilliant holiday!! This was... "

What a brilliant holiday!! This was my second year staying at the Orquidea Aparthotel and in the last year it has only got better. We never stay at the same place twice but had such a fab time here that we had to come back again. There is plenty of day and night time entertainment for children and adults and the disco bar is great! The pool is brilliant for children to play in and for adults to. there are plenty of great bars and restaurants around to eat in with excellent food! Was a very enjoyable holiday and we are currently in the process of booking next year there again!

" I have just got back from a 2 week... "

I have just got back from a 2 week break at this hotel. When we arrived I was impressed by the cleanliness of the hotel, it was spotless, all day every day. The staff at hotel were lovely and were always polite and chat to you while you were buying your morning paper.

The room itself was clean, though slightly small for 3 people. Get a pool view room if you can, it's 3 euros a day and you can also see the sea from your room. My only real complaint was that you can hear a lot of noise coming from the hallway at night and on our last night someone complained about our party because they could hear me and boyfriend talking through the walls!

If you can, avoid eating the food at the hotel, it's really not that nice. The resort itself is quite quiet, but you haven't got far to walk to the beach or the shops and bars. We ate at a snack bar called Mel's everyday along the front. It's good, honest English food at good prices and everyone who worked there was brilliant.

I don't know if I would go back to Santa Eulalia, being 19 I should be in San Antonio but I would definitely go back the Orquidea Apartments!

" Santa Eulalia is an excellent resort... "

Santa Eulalia is an excellent resort for a relaxing holiday and the Orquidea aparthotel could not be better placed with everything you could need no more than a short stroll away. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was big enough for three of us but would have been a bit of a tight squeeze for four.

The rooms were very clean though, with regular bed linen and towel changes. Catering facilities in the rooms are limited; there was no kettle so we had to boil water in a saucepan to make hot drinks. There was a toaster though, but bizarrely the only places to plug it in were either in between the twin beds in the bedroom or in the bathroom as that is where the only electric sockets in the apartment were. However this didn't bother us as there are so many good cafes and restaurants in the area we let them do the cooking!

We didn't eat at the hotel so I can’t' comment on the food quality there. The only other slight downside is the pool isn't quite big enough for the number of apartments it serves and there was a bit of a free for all for sunbeds every morning, but again this didn't bother us as there is a gorgeous beach right on the doorstep, we purchased beach mats for one euro each and headed there when we wanted to do no more than soak up the sun. There are also plenty of sun loungers available to hire on the beach.

The beaches in the resort are kept very clean, (I've never seen so many litter bins, one about every 15/20 yards), and the sea is clear and wonderful for swimming in.

Santa Eulalia has more to offer than just a beach though. There are some fantastic places to eat. We had very good meals in restaurants - Atenea and Sinatras both on the promenade overlooking the beach, there is an excellent Chinese in the marina area, (The New Shanghai I think it's called). There is an Italian called' Over the Top' down a side street opposite the Marina which although doesn't look anything special on first appearances does really good food and one of the nicest pizzas I've ever tasted, it also does takeaway. The ice-cream parlour, Miretti, at the end of the promenade is a must, it has every flavour you can imagine and my husband made it his mission to try everyone in our 2 week stay! (He didn't quite make it).

If you want a really nice meal for a special occasion then 'Mezzanotte' is a lovely restaurant and wine bar on the main street in the centre of the resort,(paseo de s'almera). The 'dining room' is in a lovely secluded courtyard garden with a relaxed atmosphere and food of the highest quality. Also, Ca'n Pere I think it's called, (the one with the lobster tank), on restaurant street is really good quality and the service is excellent. The only bad meal we had was in 'La Bota' on Restaurant Street, the service was poor and the food even worse.
The mini train that takes you on a tour of the area is worth a go, it takes about an hour and a half. It goes up to the Puig de Missa church and then on a tour into the surrounding countryside. Not only was it informative but also very entertaining as the train driver gives a very amusing running commentary that had us in fits of laughter.

There are lots of good shops in Santa Eulalia, everything from your usual tourist fare to upmarket boutiques, lots of good bakeries and wine/liquor stores.

Further afield Ibiza Town is well worth spending a couple of days exploring, the local bus runs regularly and is very reasonably priced. It's also worth spending an evening in Ibiza Town, just sit at one of the pavement bars or cafes and people watch it's very entertaining; all the drag queens come out in all their finery. But don't make the same mistake we did. We went on the excursion with the holiday company which cost 18 euros each and didn't last long enough, 2 3/4hours, things were just starting to liven up when we had to get back on the coach before 11pm. A taxi each way would have actually worked out cheaper for the three of us, around 45 euros round trip.

The Hippy Market at Es Cana is also worth visiting but go early as it gets very busy, we got the first water taxi of the day, and arrived before it got too crowded.

Although on the whole I would advise avoiding the tour company trips as I think they are poor value for money and it's easy to do things yourself, we did take the catamaran cruise. Although a little expensive it was a wonderfully relaxing day just spent chilling on the boat and the barbeque provided was good and the drinks flowed more freely than we expected them to.

Overall this is an excellent holiday destination, we will definitely return.

Just a word of warning, pack some non-slip footwear as the pavements in some places are very slippery, especially if you are going to take the walk up to the cathedral in Ibiza Town. Which is well worth it by the way.

" The room was small but suitable for... "

The room was small but suitable for 4. The 3rd and 4th beds were sofa beds and the main bedroom only had 2 single beds so we had to put them together to make a double bed. The view was horrible because the only sea view we had was tiles of the sea and dolphins.

The pool was small and always full of lilos. As for the sun beds.... if you like a lie in you will have to venture out of the hotel to get them and then end up paying for them.

There are a hell of a lot of Germans which are all inclusive, so they are always up before nine, so that at nine am in the morning they can get their sun beds and umbrella.

Kevin and Vinnie were the entertainers there and were excellent to talk to. They really could make a holiday great. This hotel is really good for children aged 4-8 yrs. The entertainment started at nine with the mini disco the the sports awards for the kids. Then on to the bingo, then at ten a show is put on... or bingo.

The beach was over the promenade... the sun beds were 3.50 euro along with the umbrella. After the orange line was full of jellyfish so I do advise not to swim up to the orange line.

Aguarmar is small and San Antonio is suitalbe for 18+.

Hope you find this review helpful.

" This was our first time here in Ibiza... "

This was our first time here in Ibiza and we have to say it was lovely. Hotel is very clean and although the room we had was very basic, it was still nice. We had a studio room which was just big enough for the 2 of us, but don't think we would have had much room if there was one extra.

Our room was a pool view, which we didn't have to pay extra for.
Maid service was round nearly everyday and left clean towels and toilet tissue.
The room also had a T.V with English, German and Spanish channels.

The hotel is right on the beach front and not to far away from anything. There aren't many bars, mostly restaurants and it was very quiet.

The back gates to the hotel, which was on the beach from where locked at 11.30 every night and you had to walk all the way round to get in through the front.

Entertainment was provided most nights around the pool area but was mostly child orientated, so we decided that we would give it a miss and spent many, or should I say every night in the fantastic 4 Pinos. I recommend this for both food and drink and the people there are really lovely.

Prices are also very good. Around 2.80 euros for a local pint.
The beach was nice but the sea was full of seaweed, and I mean Full. I did manage to go in once but that was about it. It just looked a bit dirty to me and that put me off, however it didn't put my mate off even at 5am in the morning when she was swimming in it!!!

Overall it was a very chilled and relaxed holiday, and we did enjoy every minute.
You do have to queue up every morning to get a sun bed and the pool is rammed full.
The cost of a sun bed on the beach is 3.50 euros, but they are far more comfy that the ones around the pool, but these are free.

Be prepared also for them to shout to you at 6pm as this is when the pool closes and they collect the sun beds. It's a shame really as the sun shines and it’s still really hot after 8pm.

There were a lot of children running about and lots of activates for them to join in and the pool always full.

We had to be out of our room for 12 noon when we were being picked up at 1pm. You could keep your room on, but this was quiet expensive. They do offer you a courtesy room for half an hour which you can book the day before.

We can't tell you what the food was like as we where self catering.

We also went to the Hippy market, but to be honest it was just full of tat which was expensive. |To get there by bus is cheap, if you can get on it, but we decided to go by taxi which cost us about 20 euros there and back.

Ibiza town is nice and more lively with lots more bars and shops. That’s really cheap also to go by bus and not so bad to get a seat. Last bus back is 10.30 so unless you get a taxi back you can't really stay out late and have a good look around.
People are really friendly and we would go back.

For good food you def have to eat at:
4 Pinos (thanks guys for making our holiday)
Volare (fantastic Sunday roasts and steaks and people really friendly)
And the Chinese buffet right at the end of the port - food here really nice costs 12.95 euros for all you can eat which includes dessert. Drinks quiet expensive though.

All in all a very pleasant stay, very chilled and the weather was fantastic.
Thanks again to the guys at 4 Pinos who where the most friendly and lovely people on the island, they really made our holiday.
