I was at first slightly suspicious of my mum and dad saying that a trip to Islay was going to be fun (bearing in mind I was 17 at the time), thinking that I would be bored stiff with no mobile phone signal to keep me sane!
How wrong I was!
We were lucky to go in May, when it was not so hot the mosquitoes were out, but warm enough to get a good tan!
There are many activities to do, and this is the perfect place to go if you are revising for exams (as I was). It is a perfect idyll, and where we were had a big table overlooking a babbling byrne, ideal for studying about Lloyd George and the General Strike!
One day I took a bike ride from one end of the Isle to the other (and back again obviously). To do this all you need is a map, a bike and some good leg muscles, although it is possible to take a slightly easier route, I'm sure!
The Isle itself is not too big, but walking is a no-no really, with bike or car the ideal way to get round. A bike ride from one side of the isle to the other is about 5 hours.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself, as my Dad did at the distillery's (there are 9 on the Isle) and would recommend the isle, as well as the accommodation, to anybody without a second's hesitation.
