The hotel look impressive and the rooms are of a good standard. Location is out of the way, too far to walk to the beach and other activities, need to use taxis. The biggest problem with this hotel is the FOOD. What ever anybody says the food is almost inedible and an... more

We really enjoyed our stay at the Gran. It had great space in all its public areas, and the bedrooms were some of the largest that we have stayed in. Lots of hanging space for your clothes as well. The maids worked really hard and it was certainly one of the cleanest hotels... more

Having travelled extensively and stayed in 5 star hotels on business in various cities I was curious as to what the standard of a 5 star hotel offered as part of a package deal might be like. I need not have worried. The architecture appears to have been influenced by the... more

Great Holiday!
Recently stayed at the Adeje Gran 21st-28th january 2005. Very good value for money - best to eat out in the evenings. Breakfast comprehensive but the cooked tends to be greasy and not always piping hot. Room excellent. Hotel staff over busy but polite. but managed to send a mobile phone we had left in the room to airport by taxi before we flew back - so full marks for that! Over all would go back at the price.
Not our Idea of a 5* Hotel
We have just returned from a 10 day holiday at the Costa Adeje Gran Hotel, and have very mixed feelings about the hotel. Like many other reviewers before us, we have travelled all over the world and appreciate the luxury a 5* hotel brings, but having read other Trip Advisors comments on this hotel before going we went with an open mind. There is no doubt the hotel looks impressive, large, beautifully furnished reception...beautiful swimming pools, including a rooftop pool... although it was too cold to swim in!!!! guest rooms are large, and we were lucky enough to overlook one of the swimming pool. The balconies, however are small and not at all private, which is a shame if, like us, you like to have an afternoon drink and watch the sun set. We had to talk in whispers and make sure we were properly dressed before venturing out, as you could be clearly seen on both sides.!!! Other reviewers have mentioned the food, good and bad, ...well for us, there was plenty of it, but without exception the meat, [mostly veal] was very tough, , sometimes impossible to cut! on the plus side the fish was always good, vegetables, sadly poor, and recycled... you would see last night brussel sprouts appear in a 'mixed veg' the following night!!! Desserts for us were a nightmare, in fact I did not eat one , my husband had the occasional ice cream.Breakfast was OK. and it was refreshing to see they catered for people watching their waistline, with the addition of diet yoghurts and fresh fruit. There was an al a carte restaurant but guests got only a 25% discount which we thought was a bit cheeky!! Also ALL the facilities came at an extra charge. 9E for the poorly equiped gym, 9E for the Sauna, Steam and Jacuzzi, as these were not part of the hotel . Entertainment was a bit hit and miss, but as we have come to expect when staying in a large multi national hotel. We did enjoy our after dinner coffee in the lounge bar most evenings, before venturing out and about. The walk down to the main drag is quite nice, although there is building work going on across the road from the hotel. which you have to walk past, and the trip back is a KILLER... all uphill.!!!!! WE found a couple of nice cocktail bars right on the beach, serving very generous drinks for a fraction of the hotel prices, complete with lovely music and warm heaters [it can get a bit chilly at night] and the perfect place to 'people watch'!! All in all we personally would not stay at this hotel again, it is poorly located, some distance away from the beach, But if you are looking for a peaceful,' hotel only' based holiday, with friendly attentive staff, then this may be the one for you.
I've been everywhere - this hotel is good - very good
My wife and I have been just about everywhere- from California to Bangkok, Honalulu to Russia, and almost everywhere in Europe, but we had never been to the Canaries. We usually stay at 5 star hotels, unless there is not one where we want to visit, then it's a 4 star. After reading some of the 2 & 3 star rating from some visitors, we really regretted booking the hotel. At 65 years old I'm past eating poor food and sleeping in bad rooms experienced in our younger days, but we decided that we will eat out if need be and only use the hotel for sleeping. We rarely holday in January but the climate tempted us. When we arrived we were impressed with the grand entrance and expected a long delay at the reception as mentioned by a visitor. Instead we were immediately dealt with and were in our room within 20 minutes of arrival. The room was excellent, clean, fresh and as a 6 footer I appeciated the large bed. The bathroom was spotless, excellent. The view over the pool areas, we were on the 4th floor, was beautiful and we just looked over the view and I even photographed to show the kids. So far, so good. We still had our doubts about the food after reading the other reports. Well, it was fantastic ! I'm a big eater and I like food. This hotel offered me just about everything I wanted. The meats were good, the salads very fresh, the vegetables great, the fish excellent, the soups were so good that some days I went back for a 'second'. The sweets including the icecream were excellent - again I went back for more. The breakfasts were great and had everything we wanted and plentiful. As soon as the plates were emptied there was more than enough waiters to immediately remove them, so we always had a clean table. The vegetarian section had a great range of choices. We decided that maybe I had looked up the wrong hotel on the www - but I had'nt.
Another great stay in sunny Tenerife
This is our third stay at Costa Adeje Gran. Any room overlooking the pool is ideal. The rooms are very spacious and meals are varied. We have never been disappointed and will return again next year. Staff take great care of you and make you very welcome. It is well situated, away from the tacky areas of Los Americas and if you are looking for a relaxed holiday in ideal surroundings...look no further.
Not what we expected
We have just returned from one week's stay at this hotel over the New Year period. The room was very spacious but at the back of the hotel, overlooking a building site, with a four foot high brick wall for the balcony. So when you sat down nothing could be seen over the balcony. The food was awful. The bacon was cut into thirds and the sausages cut in half at breakfast. No 'bubbly' at breakfast. Usually you get this even at a four star hotel. The evening meal was usually no better than breakfast. Food had been standing keeping warm in the tray for ages and was dried up. The food cooked on the hotplate was keeping warm because the chefs had cooked too much when the demand was not there. A lovely 5 star building but the food was definately poor quality 3 star food. A once only visit for us I'm afraid. New Year's Eve was the exception and everything was wonderful. So why can't the everyday food be improved? We never had the room cleaned on 2nd January. My husband rang reception at 6.00p.m. and someone came to make the bed and bring fresh towels, and that was it. Very disappointing for the cost of the holiday. I am being generous giving it two stars in the review.
a great hotel
Have just returned from a weeks holiday at this hotel and we had a great time - rooms are very comfortable, staff very pleasant and the food was fine (plenty of choice at all sittings). The reception area is quite impressive! The only downside I could find is that it is bit of a walk down (& more to the point back!) via a steep hill. Will definately book this hotel again - hopefully early next year.
Great Hotel - OK Food
We stayed in late October 2004 with our 20-month-old daughter and had a great time. The hotel, facilities and rooms are excellent and the hotel is cleverly designed with the sun deck not visible from the road. Rooms have fridges, a safe, bath robes and TVs etc. and the bathrooms are excellent. The food is good although the restaurant can be busy and it is self-service buffet. The food ranges from chicken and chips through to meats and seafood and there is plenty of choice. Not much for vegetarians but this is probably true of most places. The restaurant arrangements are particularly suitable for those with children as there is plenty of choice and not much waiting. If you don’t have kids and want a more leisurely meal then eat at the later sitting or book on a B+B basis. The drinks are not that expensive for a hotel. The local beach is excellent and you should really get a car to explore the island for at least a day or so.
Mixed feeelings
We stayed for 7 nights half board at the end of September. 4 adults + a two year old. The rooms were certainly big clean and comfortable but it took nearly an hour from entering the hotel to getting to our room because of the lack of staff at reception. The hotel facilities are excellent and the pool area is first class. Lots of beds and brollies and fresh towels are provided every day. Unfortunately the dining experience leaves a lot to be desired. One of our party is vegetarian and had to live on lettuce all week as the hotel certainly does not cater for vegetarians. We got the impression that the hotel caters mainly to German or Belgiam tastes not to British.Lots of veal etc for dinner. Breakfast and dinner are both buffet style - bit like queueing for school dinners. Service however is excellent. Wine prices are ridiculously high. Vina Norte in the dining room costs 24 euros while the same wine at the supermarket next door costs 5.99 euros. The evening entertainment in the "salon" was frankly missable but there was an excellent pianist in the bar area and he was well worth listening to We would stay there again for the nice rooms but would opt for B&B and eat out for dinner.
3 times a year
we stop here up to three times a year easter summer, and end of october it is a great hotel with very friendly staff the upstairs sun deck has great views try it
Enjoyed comfort and location
my wife had stayed september 2002 and was impressed with hotel standard and value. view from montain facing rooms is boring, food is quite a bit better than average, rooms very good and staff helpful. we like the location, close to bars shops and restaurnts but not too close. in spite of being half board we usually eat out and on that proviso, can't see many people being disappointed we stayed nov 2003 and have booked again for november 2004
