Costa Adeje Gran Reviews
" Excellent Value "
Submitted By: BornTorunThe breakfasts were extensive - pretty much anything you could think of (bar the exotic) was available. The pool area was wonderful - facing west so you got sun all day long - and quiet given the number of people around. OK, only one pool was heated but the keen swimmers appeared to be happy to use the larger, unheated pool anyway.
There was evening entertainment in the bar area but it was not intrusive if you weren't interested. The animators offered pool-side activities but again without being intrusive. The staff were unfailingly polite and helpful, particularly at reception. The pool-side bar/snack staff were working under pressure and the strain showed a little, but all that was required was a little patience. Some spoke only rudimentary English, but then my Spanish is far from perfect...
Essentially, this is NOT a hotel that would stack up against the Peninsula in Hong Kong or the Taj in New Delhi but then again you are not paying anything like the same price per night. As part of a package holiday, if you are looking for relaxation rather than the night-life, I can only recommend it.
Advice: Costa Adeje is at the quiet end of PdlA but the latter is easily accessible.
Activities: The Mirador (past the Paris shopping centre) and Blanco (Plaza del Duque) were both excellent
Good for: Beach

Submitted By: monet208Have read the occassional comment about food quality in different reviews -over exaggerated and inaccurate. You only have to queue for the dining room if you go down before it opens ! and in 5 years we have never seen re-heated food.Dining staff are plentiful, tables are quickly cleared and food quality is good.
If you experience problems and tell no one complaining on a website is somewhat childish. This is the only hotel we have visited where if you make a suggestion something actually happens to improve things. ie: no reserving of sunbeds and towels removed by security !
Our only problem is that Thomas Cook closed Orhicd Travel down in April 2008 so finding good prices are difficult. The hotel director Mr Ortega is willing to accept direct bookings

Don't know how anyone can complain about the food.......there is so much selection to choose from.....and I've gained weight to prove it!
Lovely indoor and outdoor seating areas where bar staff are very attentive.
The rooftop pool is my favourite with spectacular views of Adeje and surrounding area.
Would certainly return again.

Submitted By: Mrs M DurkanAs well as the reception desk the foyer has a waterfall, aviary, piano bar, and several secluded seating areas. The staff were very polite & friendly and could not do enough for you.
Our room was lovely and was cleaned daily , towels & bathrobes were changed daily too and sheets changed several times a week.
We used the pool on the 6th floor this had decking and very comfortable sunbeds which the security men ensured were not reserved.People who did try to do so would come back to find their towels / belongings removed.
This pool area has fantastic views and you could see along the coast as far as Parque Santiago in Las Americas.
Initially we thought the buffet restaurant did not have a lot of choice but this was due to the layout of it as there were several areas in the dining room once we found our way around we discovered there was a good selection and we always found something which we enjoyed .
The bar in the hotel was cheaper than the bars in the resort or in Las Americas which was surprising.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary & my birthday while we were staying in the hotel and on both ocassions returned to our room to find champagne, water & chocolates which was a lovely surprise.
There is a steep hill across from the hotel which leads down to the front however if you come out of the hotel and turn left you can make your way down to the front .
The El Duque shopping centre is worth a look with lovely shops, cocktail bars etc and the walk along to the right past the El Duque hotel was really enjoyable.
Although this area is much quiter (& cleaner) than Las Americas there is something for everyone.
There are several good restaurants on the sea front and bars with the usual tribute acts.
There is a really nice (although small shopping area Playa Fanabe) which has a variety of restaurants such as Chinese, Steakhouses, Little Italy and even a Burger King also a few small bars.
Also on the sea front there are several play areas for children plus crazy golf , trampolines etc.
Once you are on the promenade it is only a 10 min walk to the Torviscas area and the Las Americas market where there are loads of bars etc.
We had a most enjyable holiday in this excellent hotel will definitely return.

Submitted By: Mrs A SackerBreakfast was excellent with a wide choice of food - continental breakfast, cereals, fresh bread, pastries, omelette and eggs cooked in front of you. We didn't have to wait at all and it wasn't like a canteen. There was even champagne some mornings on offer and sprouts which we found a little odd!
The rooms were spacious and clean. Beds changed every other day and fresh towels and dressing gowns. When we arrived we had a room over looking the road at the back. We hadn't requested a pool/sea view so it was our fault. Neverthless, we asked if there was any chance of swapping for a room facing the sea and pool. At first they said they would put us on a waiting list but within 5 minutes they let us view another room and swapped us!
The bar area in the evening is great and drinks a reasonable price. The entertainment is very good - entertaining and not in your face. There is then a pianist who plays afterwards.
Don't pack towels for the pool - they supply them and you can get fresh ones each day. The pools are a little chilly though!
It was my husbands birthday when we were there and we received a free bottle of champagne, chocolates and water - what a lovely surprise!
There are quite a few restaurants withing walking distance. If you turn west away from Playa de Las Americas they are nice but tend to be more expensive - try the Hacienda though but book if you are on th beach in the day for the evening. If you go towards Playa De Las Americas they tend to be cheaper - Tony Romas is good.
If you hirer a car you can park it free outside the hotel which is useful.
An excellent hotel and can't fault it at all. We will definetly go back here if we go to Tenerife. Costa Adeje and Los Gigantes are in our opinion the best places to go in Tenerife if you like a quietish holiday with a few nice restaurants and a nice, safe setting.

Submitted By: Vin2300On arrival we were very impressed by the reception area. Big and open, with waterfalls. In fact the whole building is very impressive indeed. The circulation areas between the rooms were open to the elements which made them very airy. Not sure what happens when it rains, although we didnt encounter that problem!
When we go to our room, we were pleased with the result. Very good size, clean, and a nice balcony. I requested a pool view (my requests are never normally met), but we got one! We could also see the rest of Costa Adeje and the sea too.
The hotel has 4 pools. Two are very large, and there is a smaller chldrens one and rooftop one. The area round the pools is very nice, with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. Of the two main pools, one is heated, very nice for a swim. The other, and the rooftop one are freezing! For us, the best place was the rooftop area, which was really peaceful (no children) and had fantastic views.
The only thing that lets the hotel down is the food. We were only staying bed & breakfast as we prefer to eat out somewhere different every night. The breakfasts were average at best. But the real disappointment was not being able to get anything edible beside the pool during the day. There was a main cafe/bar which we tried once, but the food was disgusting. There was also a smaller juice-bar which served toasties. We had these three times, and they were ok, but you need some variety!
The resort of Costa Adeje is very nice. All modern, but with mostly fairly traditional looking buildings. The best area is down by El Duque beach where there are a few nice cafes and bars overlooking the beach. The beach itself was very nice, but it cost £18 Euros for two sunbeds and a parasol. Extortionate!
The nicest restaurant we went to was La Hacienda down by El Duque beach. The chicken fajitas were amazing! Meals generally werent cheap. Though for value, you couldnt beat Little Italy. Also worth a mention is the italian on the first floor of the shopping centre. Plus i had a cracking fillet steak at Gran Reserva in Fanabe. However i think if we had stayed 2 weeks we would definately have ran out of restaurants, as there werent that many without venturing further.
We walked into Fanabe and Torviscas a couple of times. Fanabe isnt bad, but one you get to Torviscas it gets a bit tacky and during the daytime the scratchcard idiots pounce.
Overall, like people have said this probably isnt a true 5-star hotel. But we paid under £90 a night, and for that price it is brilliant value for money. If you want a luxury 5-star you will have to pay a lot more than that! I think you have to mark these things having regard to what you paid, and with decent food i would have given it a 10.

Submitted By: sophie123All the staff were really friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious and very clean. We were B & B as we like to explore a little and eat out. The breakfast was good, the usuall, fresh fruit, continental and cooked. We ate our lunches at the pool bar, which was quick and easy, although a little expensive with the euro exchange not being so good.
The rooms have fridges, but the hotel supermarket is expensive so if you turn left out of hotel, there is a row of shops and a large supermarket underground. If you are not checking out of hotel till late there is use of a courtesy room with 3 showers but you must book them so do so in good time!
On leaving hotel, go straight down the hill which brings you to beach, Do not eat at La Hacienda, first resturant you come too, V expensive and the food is awful! Keep walking! turn left at beach and this will take you to Fannebe, a lovely costal walk with amazing sunset over La Gomera! Keep walking and you will come to Crawfords Restuarant, amazing food and great staff! Get a taxi home if you dont fancy the walk back. Turn left out of resturant and walk up hill passed the Cavery and there is a taxi rank. Will return to Costa Adeje as lovely quiet area with plenty to do !

Submitted By: Mr D R ThompsonThe reception is an outstanding building, very much a positive first impression and as spacious as you will find, I found the staff to be polite and helpful.
The rooms are well appointed, a good level of maid service, but they are beginning to tire, an upgrade will be necessary in the near future if standards are to be maintained.
The food is above average for this type of setting, although the Christmas banquet was exceptional. I have to say the staff in the dining area worked very hard and were quite pleasant (apart from one female chef on Boxing Day who was short to a guest at breakfast).
The piano bar is now much more improved in terms of service but the drinks are quite expensive.
The entertainment in the hotel was mixed, animation team performing grease and Saturday night fever, magicians and acrobats. The pools and facilities are well maintained and clean.
I like the location; it is quiet but only a short hill to the beach or other shops, restaurants, attractions etc.
People forget that the star rating relates to facilities that are available in the hotel not just standards; the Adeje Gran has always represented excellent value for money as it did on this occasion.

Submitted By: dlw250169Firstly this should not be given a 5 star rating, whilst it is a very pleasant hotel the service is not that of a 5 star luxury hotel! The first morning we had to join a long queue of guests to get a seat for breakfast (I have travelled to many hotels and have never had to queue for breakfast!)
The service was very slow and I have to agree with others, the staff were not very friendly and were extremely stressed out. There was definitely something lacking with the organisation of the restaurant, tables were not serviced well at all, we sat waiting for coffee for ages, in the end we got our own from the machines. Dirty plates were not taken away for an age, pretty poor all round. The food was nice and reasonable choice each night.
Didn't agree that you could upgrade to another dining area and receive better service! In a 5 star hotel in my opinion everyone should receive the same service.
The pools are lovely, no real rush for the beds as the hotel management DO remove towels if beds are reserved, very refreshing to see them actually doing it rather than a written rule that isn't followed, also quite amusing to watch! We didn't bother with the entertainment so can't comment. Rooms very nice and comfortable cleaned very well.
Beaches are a fair walking distance away (del duque down a steep ish hill) Food in that area isn't all it's cracked up to be and service slow. Tropical Beach Bar on Fanabe beach, great value for lunch time snack (we have returned for 5 years now).
If the hotel was rated as a 4 star I would have probably given it an 8, but the score reflects the standard of service for a so called 5 star hotel. I would return for an break in half term as the weather was lovely but I would go with the '4 star expectation' in mind!

Submitted By: Miss L HindThe hotel has to be the biggest hotel I have ever seen let alone stayed in and was out of this world. The reception area/lobby was lovely and very very big with a lovely water fountain as you enter the hotel.
There is a piano bar in the lobby area and there is also a couple of shops in the hotel including a general shop, hairdressers, electrical shop (cameras etc), a gift shop, clothes shop.
The pools in this hotel are amazing. There are 4 pools in total. There is one very big pool, a medium sized pool (heated from Oct to March) a children’s pool and best of all a roof terrace pool (nice and quiet). The roof terrace situated on the 6th floor is great.
We noticed that on one sign it said that this was a nudist area, but when we eventually went up to have a look we realised that it was simply a quiet area with lots of sun loungers and a lovely pool with an amazing view of the hotel and the sea (and pretty much most of Costa Adeje). The nudist area is a separate area hidden behind walls so don’t worry about that and don’t let that put you off the roof terrace (sun trap).
The room was fantastic, massive double bed and gorgeous bathroom with two wash basins, bath and shower and toilet. Hairdryer provided. There was a TV in the room which on arrival greets you with a 5 minute long video introduction of the hotel and its facilities. Not many English channels, mainly news CNN and Sky News. Lovely balcony, we had a fantastic view of the mountains.
Breakfast at the hotel was really good too. Make sure you get down before 9.30 as there will be a queue from 9.30 onwards. Fresh bread, meats, cheeses, bacon eggs etc, buffet style breakfast, no complaints at all.
Staff in the hotel are absolutely brilliant. The waiters at the pool bar are great and show off their talent of carrying 10 plates, cleaning tables, collecting glasses and taking orders ALL AT ONCE (you know what I mean).
The entertainment at the hotel was ok. By ok I mean that it could have been better but don not let this put you off. While we were there we watched the Beatles, Abba, The Temptations, an Illusion show and Grease the musical. The sangria was lush!!!
The Animations team at the hotel were brill, one young man seemed to work all day and night to ensure all guests had a fantastic stay. There were games throughout the day, volley ball, water basket, and aqua fit. There were also a couple of Scuba diving opportunities.
You could collect fresh beach towels from the hatch every day.
I will say that while we were there, there was a problem with guests reserving sun loungers early so by about 10.30 there were all taken. We don’t agree with this but found ourselves doing this as this was the only way to get a bed. They put a sign up by the end of the week to stop people doing this and it worked.
There are a couple of places to eat in the hotel, La Tasca A la Carte - a bit too posh for my liking but the buffet part is fine. Unable to comment on the Full Board buffet style food as we did not eat here.
PLEASE GO TO THE CHINESE JUST OUT OF THE HOTEL, TURN LEFT, AND WALK ABOUT 100 YARDS. Oriental Slow Boat 3, the food here was out of this world. I can safely say that this was the nicest Chinese meal I have ever had. We had loads of food and all great prices, the crispy duck with pancakes was the best I have ever had.
Also in the shopping centre Plaza El Duque, just down the hill towards the sea about 3 min walk there is a nice place called Bianco, really nice food. Fillet steak here was great, I asked for mine cooked med but it came out a bit too rare for me so make sure you ask them to cook it to your liking. And a MUST HAVE dessert is the Chocolate Brownie, to die for, you will probably take a photograph of it. (You will know what I mean when you see it)
Can’t really think of anything else to say, great holiday, fantastic hotel, great food, beech lovely.
Don’t let any bad reviews put you off. In fact I doubt if there are any bad reviews and if there are these people must be very very very picky.
