Marina Del Mar Resort & Marina Hotel

RUDENESS was the key word of the day for this visit. We checked in on Easter so maybe the staff was a little tiffed to have to be working that day or something, but from the moment we checked in, we got the feeling we were more of an annoyance than anything. After our dive, I went to the front desk while my girlfriend waited outside with the gear. No one was there, so I pushed the button on the clipboard which said "Staff Assistance". It did not work. Stayed here 3/22 3/23 Addressing some negatives first. Yes it is an older place could use some refurbishing. Room had a whirlpool tub but it didn't work not that it mattered. Phone didn't work but staff quickly took care of that. Evidence of repair work done in the bathroom. Yes there are stom shutters on the outside and no curains on the inside but didn't feel privacy was an issue. For anyone hesitating about staying here, STOP! It was well worth every penny and every minute we spent here. Four of us went to Key Largo for a birthday, we wanted to save some money, so all split one room. We got the one with two murphy beds and a kitchen. This room was HUGE! Plenty of space for everyone and all of our things, plus room to relax and play. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. stayed here for a very reasonable price through expedia my husb and i needed a quick getaway for some sun and relaxation it is not a luxurious hotel but it was clean situated on a beautiful marina and the staff were very pleasant we had a rental car so we explored all the keys all the way down to key west we would come back by dinner time take a swim or go in the hot tub then have an excellent fresh grilled fish meal at one of the many restaurants in the area if you are looking to just hang out on a beach it is not that kind of place but... more

We stayed here rather than at the Holiday Inn next door because we wanted a bit more space and a refrigerator. The "upper floor" room we requested turned out to be on the first floor. The desk clerk explained unapologetically that the first floor rooms are one floor up from gound (European style), so we really were on an upper floor--never mind that there were 3 more floors above us. What a wonderful way to spend a week in the Keys! Although the Marina del Mar is not the most luxurious place in the area, niether is it the most expensive, and we are convinced that it offers the best value while still providing that wonderful keys atmosphere. The bathroom of our room had a leak from old damage in ceiling on third day of stay. Clunky old VING card locks on the doors. Small rooms. Not much parking. You have to pay for using Internet connection in the office. Elevator did not work during 5 day stay. Location close to many dive boats. Sharky's is a nice pub and restuarant next door.

We wanted an inexpensive hotel with some local color to it. The Marina del Mar seemed to qualify and when we got to Key Largo we found we were delighted with it. The place was spotless, the employees were friendly and helpful, and our room was more than what we'd expected (the room pictures on the website accurately depicted our least-expensive room). I called and made a reservation for three nights. The front desk clerk quoted me a rate of $99.95 per night. I got a confirmation number. Should have got a confirmation letter. When we checked in, the manager said our rate was actually $199.95, and they wouldn't have given us a $99.95 rate over race weekend. It was my word against their's, but I would never book a motel for $200 a night. REALLY regretted not getting a confirmation letter. I often book friends at the Marina del Mar. They are right next to one of the best sushi restaurants, Sushi Nami, & the hotel restaurant is quite good, albeit a bit expensive. They are centrally located, also next to a great Italian restaurant, Cafe Largo. The hotel prices are quite reasonable. I'm sorry to hear the last person wasn't happy. Key Largo is a great place to visit!
