Howard Johnson Hotel

Just got back from HoJo Key Largo yesterday, room basic, only food available was breakfast, quite pricey for USA, only other was choc bars/crisps from vending machine, not really suitable if staying with children, luckily I wasn't! Pool fine, very quiet, beach okay for sitting on not really for bathing, staff indifferent, bedspread had cigarette burn in it even though it was a non-smoking room, internet in room would'nt work got a refund, lots of insects running around woodwork in hotel room, shower was a dribble, bath very shallow, walls... more

woke to ants crawling on my arms in this Ho Jo! Trash in the parking lot, stains on rugs, loud hallway and the staff couldn't give any helpful tourism advice to save their lives! Bathtub clogged and scary looking. Sink stained and looked to be breading bacteria. Spend the extra couple bucks and go to another place in the area (there are plenty)

Stayed here on our recent Keys vacation. Found the outside to need some tiding up; trash in the parking lot, neglected overall look. The room had a king bed. The mattress must have been as old as the motel. Was extremely lumpy. The spread was stained and worn. There was a hole in the wall and floor. Stains on the carpet. The door had to be shoved shut to lock properly. I would not recommend this motel when there are plenty of others nearby.

Made the mistake of staying here mid-November 2004 during Homestead Nascar race. The place is a dump! Unfortunately, we were "stuck" here for 2 nights because every other hotel/motel in the area was full. Asked front desk to change our room, but hotel was full. Toilet malfunctioned from the time we checked in to the time we checked out despite two attempts to fix it by hotel staff. We stayed here in August. We got a good rate by booking early. The hotel was OK. The rooms were large and had a small refrigerator. It is very close to Pennekamp Park where we snorkeled. It has a small beach area where you can snorkel but there were a lot of jellyfish when we were there. All in all it was a good hotel for under $100.00. Don't eat the breakfast buffet for $8.95. It was not worth it.

After reading the reviews I decided to book this hotel. When we arrived, it didn't look that bad from the outside. However when we checked in and went to our room I was disgusted. The toilet didn't flush, there were stains all over the carpet, and I almost dislocated my shoulder trying to open the sliding glass door onto my patio. We spent an hour there trying to find somewhere else to stay. The only bonus was they waived the $50.00 U.S. early checkout fee, we just told them that the hotel wasn't what we were expecting. Stayed here begining of august 2004, looks awfull from the outside, but inside the room are not too bad, but the corridors look like they could do with a lick of paint, and maybe a new carpet! but dont let that out you off. I would stay there again, especially with all the manatees swimming about, but look out for the jelly fish!

Stayed here one night last week on way down to Key West. Not cheap, we paid $179 for saturday night, but just turned up, after long drive. Room was huge, with everything you need, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, internet and play station etc. Really nice setting on the water, with a little beach area. The restaurant is only open for breakfast buffet, but places nearby to eat. Would definately recommend this hotel as a stop off on way to or from Key West.

Kayaking was great; Howard Johnson's was a wonderful place and we are used to better hotels. Weather beautiful. Don't miss it.Paddling was the best.

we visited the Howard Johnson in November 2003 and had initially booked for just two days but ended up staying longer! on first arriving we were a bit disappionted, but that was before we went down to the beach area in front of the hotel. It was a real treat for nature lovers! we saw all kinds of fish while snorkelling there and lots of other wildlife but the real highlight was when a family of three manatees came swimming around us when we were in the sea.
