When we arrived at the hotel (12.00am), we got a twin bed room. We had booked and paid for a double bed room; however, the recepcionist said there was none available. After discussing the situation, he offered us to leave the hotel and find another one. Obviously, we took the room and waited for a change, which never happened.
During our stay, we discovered that the service was unfriendly in general.
The breakfast is poor. The location of the hotel is good, specially if you get a room facing the pool. Rooms are quite large, with a balcony to the terrace/pool.

Me and my girlfriend stayed at the melpo hotel during our 14 day holiday in hersonossis, although thgere was a slight mix up with the room the friendly staff who managed the hotel gladly movred us to the correct room the next morning. athere is a small pool and sun lounge area wich may not look alot but is perfect to get away from the busy village and relax with a nice little bar inside. I realy recomend it, verry peacefull and the rooms are verry clean and tidy.

Definitely would not recommend this hotel for young people as staff continuously complained about us coming in late, playing music etc. Firstly they double booked our roomas well as several others and moved us to another hotel with no apology. Booked a double room and got 2 single beds. Rooms very basic, pool and balcony tiny, bar unstocked and empty and rude staff. Excellent location but dissapointing hotel.

Fine looking and clean common areal. Little difficult to find, even though it`s in the main road. Good bar and swimingpool. Rooms ok, little old fashion bathrooms. Balcony smal but good enough for 2. A little fridge in the room was very good and silent. Good value for money. Very central placement for everything, you`ve got good breakfast and supermarket right across the road. Shopping right outside, Star Beach 10 min walking, cocktails within 300m, main party area 5 min walking.
Staff was very nice and helpfull.
Minus about hotel:
1. Mattress in the beds are very hard, bad for some.
2. Shower has curtain and bad showerhead.
3. Poor breakfast.
4. 12 Euro for safe pr week, and aircondition 6 Euro pr day ekstra.
5. Noise level is high in front, be sure to get room inside or in the back if you want to sleep. If you just want to party it`s ok in the front, but remember earplugs for the mornings.
PS! Remember the bloody vampire mosquits! Take Care!
Regards from a couple from Norway.

I went to Melpo in May with my mum, her boyfriend and a mate.
The Hotel was freshly refurbished when we arrived. I can't say I saw much of the hotel with being out partying or anything but it's a good place to stay because it is in the centre of the town and near all the clubs and pubs.
The staff were very friendly and warming.
We weren't up early enough to try the breakfast due to the alcohol consumption but I don't think it would of been to my taste anyway.
My room was a very good size and the balcony was very spacious. Bigger than my mum's anyway, if you’re going and want a big balcony try and get a middle room.
A good place to eat would be the Greek Corner, when you come out of Melpo turn to your right and walk up to the 2nd corner and its a lovely little restaurant with the most friendliest staff.
A place for snacks I would recommend McDellys - Like McDonalds but you can get healthier options and they do pretty much everything!
The only downside of the hotel is the walls are like paper, the slightest move from a room next door you can hear!
The pool wasn't filled when we got there, but they scrubbed it for a whole day in the sweltering heat and it was gleaming when they had finished. I didn’t use the pool because I’m more a beach person - Star Beach would be the nicest beach to go to.
Do rent out quad bikes, go around and get the best deal. My mate and I got one for 3 days for €40 plus €20 for the insurance. We took a trip through to Malia and it was a lovely place. Very busy though.
But all in all the Melpo was lovely, the staff were lovely. I would definitely go back to the Melpo.

We visited Hersonissos 2 years ago and stayed at the very pleasant Anatoli apartments (right opposite star beach).
We decided on a cheap holiday and up came Hersonossis, with the Melpo Hotel as an accommodation option, right slap bang in the middle of the town. It was great.
Ideal location, comfortable room (with fridge, although the fridge goes off when you are out of your room, as does all electrical, but it was free of charge so no complaints there).
We had a pool facing room with an exceptionally tiny balcony (it was an end room - the middle rooms have slightly larger balconies). The pool was empty when we arrived on day 2 of their opening for the new season, but we saw them scrub it clean and fill it with a hose over two days!! It's not huge, but more than big enough to cool you down on a very hot day.
The whole hotel had been freshly painted/refurbished - we had to wait for them to fit our safe which had been removed during the refurb!! No hassles there though. Rooms were cleaned every day and sheets changed every other day. Extra pillows available on request.
Now the breakfasts do leave a lot to be desired by British standards, but they do seem to be catering for the German/Dutch market, so it's basic continental (take your own tea bags and you'll be fine, the yellow label that they use in Crete is awful!).
The two owners were very friendly and helpful. We found the most amazing restaurant (missed it last time) called Sokaki, basically heading down town towards the main seafront area, there is a fishing tackle shop and beside it a small side street (first restaurant is called Vesuvious and then down on the RHS is Sokaki) - fantastic food, value for money and service, free pudding, the owner is lovely and again so friendly.
If you do take a wander towards Star Beach, then do eat at the Anatoli, a fabulous family restaurant, great atmosphere and good food too (try the burger on the grill stuffed with cheese - amazing).
So all in all compared to some of the places we've stayed in Greece the Melpo was a palace.

Arrived at the resort to find a "typical Greek" Melpo Hotel. We were directed, not shown, to our room via a lift which had no inside door, beware young children!
Our room was very basic with twin beds and a shower room. The beds were comfortable although a little harder than I'm used to and the pillows were ok if you liked to sleep on a cigarette paper! (Of which there was only one.) I asked for another pillow and ended up using that and a covered blanket for extra padding. The room had the usual furniture with a fridge for no extra charge, which came in handy! We paid the charge for the use of air con and hired a safe, this cost an extra £56 for 6 nights.
The shower curtain must have had an argument with the shower tray as there was a gap of about 4" inches between them, consequently the water sprayed through the gap and made the floor ideal for rinsing your feet off when you stepped out of the shower tray! The water did drain away eventually, but very slowly. Handy hint: leave your clean clothing in the room and hang your towel on the hook provided.
What is it with the Greek that you have to be a contortionist in order to put the dreaded toilet tissue in the bin. Ours was placed immediately to the left with a lid that only operated by foot. This meant moving your left foot while steadying yourself with your right to stop you slipping off the toilet seat and into the shower tray hitting your head on a soap holder on route to the floor. Yes, I moved the bin every day and each time it was emptied it was moved back.
The bedding was changed once during our week stay and the toilet bin every day but one where I think we were forgotten.
Our room overlooked the pool area which had a view of the mountains beyond, it was very quiet and peaceful and I am told by other residents the 'better side' as the others overlook a small courtyard (boring) or the main road (noisy) which buzzes well into the early hours of the morning.
The noise from room to room was loud and not very pleasant. We heard doors closing, showers running, toilets flushing, people coughing with the odd sneeze, and on one occasion in the quietist part of the night I'm sure I heard someone snoring. Fortunately we were not faced with the sound of adults participating in "ladies & gentleman" activities. Which was a bonus!
The pool and pool area was kept very clean, this didn't take long as the area is very small! About 12 sun beds placed around the pool and it was full and the pool is only about 5x10/12m. (Not at all as big as it looks on the hotel websites, although everything else looks as it is) A big disappointment here for us as I was traveling with my 14yr old daughter and this is her main activity during a holiday. We ended up using other pools in the area (some who charged) as there was more going on and other people her age for her to socialise with. The Melpo pool was only used for those sunbathing and wishing to cool off. Not for recreation.
The hotel is situated in the main road with lots of activity all around. Tavernas, shops, supermarkets, just about everything is just a stones throw away, the only downfall is the busy road which appeared quite dangerous.
The sea is across this busy road and down a small dirt track. Not too far at all, but the beaches here are very small and far between, standing room only! Handy Hint: If you want the beach get up early! There is a slightly bigger beach to the left and a wild beach to the right for the youngsters (young at heart included) with a hive of activities in and out of the sea.
To end, The Melpo Hotel was clean tidy and acceptable. The staff are friendly and helpful. It's in a good location and central to outside activities. But, only go with another adult not children and don't forget your earplugs for a peaceful nights sleep!

I didn't think it was possible, but although we came with no expectations whatsoever, we were extremely disappointed. I am not the kind of traveler that has over-the-top standards, but this hotel was unbearable and simply awful.
Upon arrival (we got the rooms early, at about 10 AM), we were introduced to a room with 2 single beds (although we specifically requested a double bed). At this time we ignored the smell of rotting wooden furniture and were determined to fix the problem. A short run through the front desk got us nowhere, as the clerk just said "no double bed" about six times and dismissed us. It was apparent to us at that time that this wasn't going to get us a double bed, so we just accepted the room with a smile, went upstairs and put the beds together. Although the room was fairly clean (ignoring the dirty mess that was the mini-fridge), it was very inconveniently planned and the shower and toilet gave you no chance of keeping them clean (there is no way to shower without the shower curtain sticking to you all the time). When it started to get warm, we started searching for the A/C remote, but it was no where to be found. Upon requesting it at the front desk, we where told we would have to pay an extra 7 Euros per night in order to enjoy the A/C. This was the breaking point for me, as we ordered and paid for an air-conditioned room. Trying to reason with the clerk did not work, and thus we spent our 4-night holiday without A/C.
The location of Melpo is excellent, no complaints there. It is smack in the middle of Hersonissos, and a walking distance from anything interesting and fun in town.
In conclusion - we did not book a fancy hotel or anything, because we weren't planning on a holiday or anything. We came to the hotel just to shower and lay our heads down at night, but somehow it managed to be worse than the guesthouses I used to stay in my Southeast Asia backpacking trip.
Do not book this hotel, no matter what your standards are!
