i have just returned from the nicon, with my partner and 2 children aged 3 and 4, after a 2 week stay. when we first arrived we were suprised by how small the rooms were, although apart from the ants it was rather clean! although i was told it is a family complex i strongly disagree, as when my 3 yr old daughter accidently wet the bed, i was shocked tobe told i would have to pay for clean bedding as we were only allowed clean bedding and towels twice a week. We also found that the apparts are situated to far away from kos town itself. I didnt see a rep either untill my 2nd week, after an introduction on our first day. We also couldnt believe the cheek of the managment either askin for money to hire a toaster and a remote control for the t.v, as these should not be charged for. I would like to say though that our evenings were lovely as the 2 bar men nick and tollis did make a real effort for everybody. I think the managment do need to refurbish the rooms as they are so basic, provide more entertainment and deffinatley if they are advertising the nicon as a family resort provide a washing machine as, a 30 minuite walk to a laundrette is simply to far. We deffinatley will not be returning!!!!!
Great Fun!!
from Misha52
The Nicon Apartments were great, they lived up to the reviews which I read on here before my travels. The people at the hotel were so friendly, which is what really made it great fun!! After dropping several other people at 4/5 star hotels, we weren't pleased when we arrive at Nicon at 2 in the morning, but as we settled in and met everyone we soon realised the atmosphere at the hotel was great. The hotel is located close enough to Kos Town for you to walk but you can take a bus too. The first thing I look at when I get to a hotel is if it's clean & Nicon was, the room & bathroom were very small, but clean & was enough room for what we needed to do there which was mostly just sleep & change. It does fill all the basic amenities which is what you would expect from a 3-star hotel!
Perfect Family Holiday Destination
from Cakey77
I had read some really positive reviews about these apartments and, after a fantastic week away, I can see why. The apartments are lovely, very clean, comfortable and with everything that you need for a self catering break. The staff are so friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have a great time. The pool area is lovely and ideal for those with small children (we had a 2 and half year old with us) because there is a children's area of the pool and a playground to keep them entertained. We went in the first week of May and the resort was just opening up but even so, there was still plenty of choice of restaurants and places to eat out. The apartments are about a 30 minute walk into Kos Town and only 5 Euros in a taxi if you don't fancy walking back!
nice and relaxing

I, aged 20, went with my girlfriend aged 19 in September 2007. Had a thoroughly relaxing time in Kos, and at the Nicon. We had a studio at the hotel, which was small and basic, and on the ground floor. However, it was very clean, and the maid came nearly everyday. The hotel is ran by a very friendly and charming family, with the two sons running the bar who are good fun. The food isn't too great though, but adeqaute for snacks. The pool area is good, and theres always a couple of sun loungers free, so there's no need to wake early to reserve them (though we did go towards the end of the season, so not sure on what the situation is during the height) For the best restaurants, at the end of the road which takes you to the main road (you'll know where I mean when you are there), turn right (instead of left, which takes you into the centre of town), and theres a couple of fairly brilliant restaurants, chiefly Omerta, and the one after it. We only went to Omerta three times (out of the whole week), and wished we had gone every night! Quite probably the best restaurant we have ever dined in, no exaggeration! It is on the sea practically, has a superb menu, and very friendly staff. Additionally, highly recommended is a traditional Greek restaurant, I forget it's name, but you can find it by when you walk along the main road into Kos Town, when you get to the Four Roses bar (which you must go to, the staff are hilarious - constantly bringing you free drinks, and alot of fun) turn left, and you'll see it. Another good bar, is opposite the Omerta restaurant, the owner is a character. He's like the Four Roses bar owner's, very friendly and funny, and gave us free shots of Bailleys or what ever we wanted. A caution though, only eat at places where there are British people already there, as we made the mistake of dining in two restaurants which were for the Germans and the Dutch, and we received horrible treatment from the waiters, who ignored us on many occaisions, along with being quite clearly obnoxious and rude to us, while at the same time, being very friendly to the other (non-English) diners. One of such restaurants was an Italian pizzeria, opposite the ice cream parlour. Avoid! Theres a few good bars in the centre of Kos Town too, nothing too loud or raving, just right for us anyway to have a drink and a chat. As for beaches, the one near the hotel is ok, not great, but it does the job! but if your fussy about beachs, get a taxi (6 euros each way) to Lambi beach, or Tingaki beach (15 euros each way). Also, get the bus to Therma Springs, were there is a section of the sea which is heated by underground volcanic springs, and is boiling hot, surreal and not to be missed. Also, went on a Thomson Sunshine Cruise, which went to two local islands, which was great, and included a decent meal. Though the hotel owner said many boat owners do similar trips from Kos harbour for half the price. Didn't get chance to go the old town, a we ran out of money so couldn't afford the taxi, but it sounded good. Overall, really enjoyed our time in Kos and the Nicon
Relaxing Holiday

When we arrived at Nicon we were suprised at how many people had been beofre and were running of the coach to hug everyone that worked there. Everyone was so lovely and helpful. The rooms are basic but very clean and well looked after, nothing was to much trouble and we were aloud to keep our room for 20.00 euros until seven. The bar is brilliant the boys were so much fun in the evening and they told us some brilliant places to eat. If you like Fish go to the "Fish Place" in kos town. Follow the port around until you come to where all the boats are going to turkey keep walking until you find the square with a pancake place on the right and two lovely bars walk up the stairs on the right and it's at the top. Brilliant food and not expensive. All in all kos was brilliant very relaxing and even better because they were having a heat wave !! 45 every day.
Great time at The Nicon!!!
from JoandBarry
I went back to the Nicon after 7 years, and this time I took my husband of 2 years because I wanted us to have a brilliant time and knew we would at the Nicon. We were not disappointed!! Nik, Spiros and Tina were as lovely and as friendly as ever and even remembered me from last time I was there! The bar was lively, cheap and sold good cheap food. They all went out of their way to make sure every one enjoyed themselves! Many couples and families we spoke to had been to Nicon many times before, one couple 14 times and another 16 times, for many it was there 3rd or 4th visit, and one couple was getting married there the week we left! I would say that in itself is enough recommendation!! The apartments themselves are kept nice and clean and are about a 25 minute walk from Kos town, although there are some lovely tavernas and bars much closer at the end of the road overlooking the sea and the harbour. There is a good bus service which also takes you to the heart of Kos Town. When going for food two restaurants I can recommend is Mamma's Kitchen in new town (just north of the dolphin fountain) and Ambrosia in Diagora square. Both do excellent traditional Greek dishes and don't rip you off! I would point out however, that the trips by Thomson are a bit of a rip off!! You can usually get the same trips from the harbour at a fraction of the cost. Just shop around first and don't feel pressurised by the Tomson rep (nice as Claire was!) Overall a great holiday in Kos made even better by the friendly attitude of the staff at the Nicon. Love them all and can't wait to go back there. I Hope I won't have to wait another 7 years this time!!

Loved the Nicon Apartments
from lunt82
I went with my boyfriend and his parents for 2 weeks, and had a brilliant time here. Firstly, the accomodation was great - we had a big apartment which was very clean and the maid came in every day to make the beds etc. The whole complex was very clean and tidy and was run by a family who were all very friendly and made you feel welcome. The pool was a good size and the food was nice at the pool bar and everything was very reasonably priced. It's about a half hour walk to the main strip of restaurants, and if you don't mind doing this it is a very nice walk with lots to see, otherwise just ask at reception for them to phone you a taxi which will cost about 5 euros. There's a great range of restaurants, again very reasonably priced and the food was great - we didn't have one bad meal. I would recommend the Flamingo bar or Sunrise. There are also lots of small bars and clubs which come to life about 10 pm, and again prices are good and if you try your luck, most places will give you free shots or rounds to try and get you in. As you come out of the complex the main strip is situated on the left, but if you don't fancy going far, go right and theres a few restaurants and bars, but I have to say, the best place we ate was down here, at a place called the Bluebird which was brilliant. It was a lovely restaurant situated outside, the food was amazing and it was very cheap - but be warned - if you eat here you probably won't want to go anywhere else afterwards! If you don't fancy going out every night then you can have just as good a time staying at the complex - they have a karaoke night, a quiz night and a Greek night - this one was the best, if you pay 10 euros you get a barbeque and they hire professional Greek dancers to come in, it's a good laugh and you don't have to dance but it is good fun if you do. One more bit of advice, the holiday reps arrange lots of trips for you and make it sound like if you go with them you will be safer, but you can do most of the trips yourself by going into town and booking it which is easy to do, and you will save about 40 euros, especially the Turkey trip, our holiday provider charged about 50 euros each to go for the day and go shopping, but if you head into town there are about 20 boats that offer trips for 10 euros, and we didn't have any problems, there's lots of people there and they do it every day so you will be looked after. All in all it was an excellent holiday, relaxing with lots available to do if you want it, the people were very friendly and the food was great - 10 out of 10!
Following on from the many great reviews the Nikon has I can only re-inforce that this is a brilliant little hotel and we will definitely look to come back again in the future. The rooms are clean and tidied every day by the cleaning staff. We were never up early, so our... more
