Nikon is EXCELLENT! Definitely coming back!
9 / 10
Sep 2011, HolidayWatchdoggers!

Following on from the many great reviews the Nikon has I can only re-inforce that this is a brilliant little hotel and we will definitely look to come back again in the future.
The rooms are clean and tidied every day by the cleaning staff. We were never up early, so our fresh towels were left outside for us so we were not disturbed. Every room has a large balcony with a table, chairs and a drying rack for your towels and things. The kitchen is very minimal but equipped for whatever you need, although we did very little in our kitchen other than make sandwiches, cereals and nibbles etc. Take a bit of washing up liquid and a cloth to wash up your stuff, however, we came back to our room on a few occassions and the cleaners had washed up for us already!! (Thank you!!)
The bathroom was fine, with bath and combined shower which was of sound quality with plenty of hot (and cold!) water.
The pool area was fantastic. Never had a problem getting a sunbed, even if we got up late! Plenty of umbrellas as well if you dont want to sit in the sun all day long. The pool was brilliantly clean, of a good size and fairly deep at one end. There is a small 'baby' pool separate from the main pool in 1 corner so much younger ones could play safely.
The playground is also a good feature to keep kids occupied (safety not 100% but nothing too dangerous!!), the Pool Table and Darts Board is free to use and the 2 computers for the internet are 50cents for 8 Minutes surfing or 1 Euro for 16 minutes.
The Greek night was Brilliant and outstanding value for money (10Euros for a massive Greek dinner, 1/2ltr of wine and Entertainment) and there were around 60 people there on the night we went.
The quiz night was good too! Free to enter and a bottle of wine for the winners. Had around 7 teams the night we went.
Big screen for any major Football games and sky sports available in the bar on the 3 televisions.
We had a tv in our room which was free to use for the week (although you need to pay for use of the remote) which had CNN and Sky News in English.
The Pool bar is great. Fresh food cooked right in front of you and for very good prices. The drinks are also very good value too and they have a wide range of Greek and imported UK beers and ciders. Nikos, Toni and all the bar staff were excellent, really welcoming and pleasant and enthusiastic during the Greek night and Karaoke night!
Spiros is the guy who works at reception who was very pleasant at first but a bit rude when we went to ask for air conditioning for our last couple of nights (could have been a language barrier and misunderstanding I don't know?) - apparently its only sold on a weekly basis according to what he was saying, rather then just for a few nights at a time, but we paid our money and got it anyway. Why advertise for 8 Euros a night for Air - Con when its only available 'per week??'
Nikon itself is a 30 minute walk into Kos Town (which is GORGEOUS!!!) but we always got the bus into town and back which only cost 1.30Euro each way and they were really regular, about every 15-20 mins from outside Beach Paradiso 2 minutes down the road from Nikon. The buses run right up until 2am, but get a bit crowded towards the end of the night! Still, we never failed to get on one!
You can hire bicycles from the hotel next door for 3Euros a day!! And you dont need a bike lock, down in Kos Town everyone just sticks their bikes up against a tree or wall and its there hours later. Very safe little town.
The beaches are not brilliant directly down the road from the Nikon, if you come out to the main road and turn left, a few minutes walk along the beach towards Kos Town is much sandier and nicer, although we much prefered spending our time around the hotel pool.
We too went on a boat trip which was brilliant, but don't go through Thomson they charge nearly double the price, go down to the harbour and book on the boats directly. During the evenings, there are people on every boat trying to entice tourists on their trips. We got a 3 Island boat trip, with lunch included for 20Euros!!!
Anyway, enough about Kos itself, you can discover all you want to when you get there, but definitely stay at the Nikon if you get the chance. We chatted to loads of people who had been coming back every year for around 10 years and I can see why.
We had an amazing holiday and it couldn't have been made possible without the Nikon.
We can't wait to go back again.

May 2010, cheeky chapaz

we went to nicon apartment for a week. on the 5th till the 12th of may 2010. its was grate i loved it was the best time ever it was tha good i am booking back up again for september 2010. they staff where grate. the place is quiet chilled.stress free. the only fault i do have was our time to be out of the room our flight wasnt till midnite and all our suitcases had to be out of the room at 6pm. we paid an extra 20euro just to keep it till 6pm other wise it would have to be out at 11am thats wasnt good. we did ask if we could have the room a bit longer and we werent allowed. but apart from that i carnt say nothing bad about it. if you are reading this go and get yaself over there it is well worth the money thanks kelly ann chapman

First time in Kos

Close to Kos Town about 15 minutes, beautiful town, friendly people.
Prices: expensive need for 2 couple about £100 a day,Euros and Pounds doesn't make any differences, lovely trips to Turkey £66pp, scuba diving £62pp, Volcano in Nissyros £50pp was worth to spend the money on that, never forget the experience.
Food prices FROM: nothing special for me : Gyros from £8.50, Souvlaki £8.50, fish and chips £7.50 Orange Juice £3.00, Wine £2,50, Burgers £4.50, Ice-cream 1 portion £1.50 you need at least 3. Umbrellas and 2 beds on the beach £5, greek salad £5
Nicon Apartments: clean but old fashion, dark wooden furniture don't like it,old bathroom, clean but not really nice,we had a apartment in the basement so people passed by could see everything, deposit box £10 a week,air-con £8 a day, TV £10 a week, late check out £20 if available, they might move you to another room for the few hours if the room is not available, this happened to us but I refused because we paid already and none told us before, so the next couple was waiting in other room till we move out at 6pm, generally family business-very friendly people, no Greek night organized that time SHAME.
Lovely Holiday advisor (Chelsea Duncan)very professional lady -highly recommended.
We spend in total: 2 people £1800 for 7 days self catering...def next holiday will be all inclusive. We will come back to Kos in few years time, but will book higher quality hotel.

  • Advice: Wery small and tiny. Choose other part of the Kos for beach.
  • Activities: Scuba diving, Nissyros Volcano, trip to Turkey and turkish Hamam.

Total Relaxation.

This was our 2nd visit to the Nicon. It was so nice to be recognised by the owners and made to feel so welcome. Having had a stressful few months prior to this holiday, but I relaxed completely during my stay.My son ,aged 13,had a wonderful time-spent a lot of time in the pooland chatting to new friends. We had a studio, which was on the ground floor.I usually prefer an upper floor, but I got quite fond of sitting on the little terrace and 'chilling'.The Nicon is in an ideal location, about 20 minutes walk into Kos Town, so it's not too noisy, and is a very safe environment for families.
We went on a trip to Nissyros-an unforgettable experience.Walking around inside a volcano is something not to be missed, even on a very hot day!
The Greek Niht at the Nicon is great fun-practise you 'Zorba' routine before you go!
All in all, this was a relaxing , enjoyable holiday in a friendly, cheerfu environment.
We shall definitely be returning.

We went to Kos for a week of...
10 / 10
Sep 2008, Mr T Caswell

We went to Kos for a week of kitesurfing and booked the Nicon because it was cheap. We were amazed with the way we were looked after and with the cleanliness of this place. We were even more amazed to find Nico - barman/son of family was also mad on kitesurfing. He came with us on all wind days and showed us that Kos is a top kitesurfing island which is massively underrated. We loved the Nicon and all the family and staff.
If you are a kitesurfer stay at the Nicon and hire a car for your stay. Head to mamari, kohillari, ramira beach or tingaki for some top action. At the end of the day head back to the Nicon bar where you and Nico can big yourselves up (Nico loves having his ego pampered a bit).
Must not forget to mention Kostas and Tollis who also work at the pool bar. Both are a great laugh and both are extremely tallented singers! They should be on a stage somewhere.
Many thanks for a killer holidays guys!!!

We had read all reviews for this...
10 / 10
Jul 2008, Mrs Hayley  Brown

We had read all reviews for this hotel and 99% were very positive. We were sure there must be something wrong but there wasn't. We could not have had a better holiday. The hotel was spotless with the day bar staff Ellie, Tina and Phillis constantly cleaning and tidying all the pool area. The snacks were reasonably priced and delicious. Tollis and Nico were very friendly and kept us entertained in the evenings. The Greek night is a must - great fun and good value. We ate at The Blue Ocean on the sea front quite a few times as the service was excellent, sunsets were magical and prices were reasonable. George at The Music Bar was great company and the prices were good there too. We hired bikes to get to Kos Town (very busy) which was a great idea - too hot to walk! We loved the laid back, relaxing, feel of this resort and we will be returning as often as funds will allow - many of the guests at this hotel return year after year and have made lifelong friendships. I can definitely see why!

The single-room apartment we had was...
8 / 10
May 2008, Mr J Bennison

1 reader found this review helpful

The single-room apartment we had was simple but spotlessly clean (cleaned daily by the staff) - it had a dual hob, fridge & sink which given that we ony ate in every other night was quite adequate.
For those nights we ate out it was very well located, being only 10-15 mins bike ride from Kos Town centre, though to be honest we found the tavernas to the right at the bottom of the road the apartments are on (taking you away from the town centre) were far better value and seemed to be more highly recommended by people that have been there before.
It's well worth hiring bikes, which we had for nearly the entire time we were there.
A special mention has to go to Nikos and Tolis, who work at the pool bar in the evenings. They made us feel extremely welcome and it was a testiment to their hospitality that the other guests accepted us as well; despite being our first time there we now know a number of the people that have been going there for years thanks to them.
Provided you're not expecting five star accommodation I would wholeheartedly recommend the Nicon Apartments to friends and family and (fingers crossed) we'll be back in the not-too-distant-future!
