Dec 2007, Ms S Clarke

Well I went to stay at this hotel, I have stayed there in the past with friends and also with my family.

No it is not the best hotel in Blackpool, however I never really stay in the rooms all that often, we're either out and about or getting ready to go out, but that was compensated by the staff that worked there that were fantastic, friendly and hard-working.

This all changed when the management changed in August 2007... I and 15 friends had stayed there in the July 2007 and had a fab time. I organised an event at the hotel for November 2007 for 50 people... which we also chose to have their catering which I had previously and was 10/10. This was priced at 11.50 per person, including food and DJ.

Well I have to say, the new owner was ignorant, prejudice and does not like women. First off my bathroom had not been cleaned. I complained and he said that it will have to wait till morning because there was no cleaners in, eventually he cleaned it and while he did he said he wanted rid of the cleaners so he could get some 'cheap polish workers'.
When the rest of the party booked in, which most were booked for 3 nights at £30 per person per night for a cold November he was raking it in, however he was rude, argumentative and arrogant when the rest of the party arrived. When a couple had problems with the rooms he just shrugged his shoulders and smiled and did nothing to resolve the problem. He was rude to a couple of members of the party which was done when there was no male presence about. He asked members of the party to buy supplies for the bar when they went the shop. He left one member of staff on the Friday night to serve the bar, set tables, answer the phone and collect glasses (which we did most the weekend ourselves).
We stopped in the bar two of those nights and drank the bar dry, we had entertainment which we had to pay for ourselves and also when this finished at midnight we just stayed in the bar talking, we were not noisy and we also noticed that there was children in the hotel and we were quiet going to our rooms.

On the Saturday when we came down at 6.30 for the evenings events and buffet, I walked in the dining hall and not one table was set up, 3 of us had to set the tables up ourselves and this included turning the table cloths over due to them being dirty. Not once did he come in and ask if everything was okay, he actually came in the room and saw us arranging the tables and he walked back out again.

So all in all it was a shocking experience. Also I did tell the manager that I would pay the DJ direct which I did and got a receipt... good job I did because at the end of our stay when we had been home a couple of days, he tried to take the payment for the DJ from my card (knowing full well I had paid) without my consent (which is against the law) he contacted me about this and was verbally abusive to me and said that I had not paid and that I owed him money, thank god I got a receipt!

The food was very good however and that is down to the chef John. Brian the barman an asset to this appalling hotel which will be run into the ground soon with that manager. Rest of the staff are very good, however there is a lot of internal hotel goings on and this affects their attitudes.

Overall, stay away from this hotel which is very sad because before the new manager it was a friendly, welcoming hotel...

Jun 2007, Mr N Schofield

Stayed here for a weekend with a friend. We booked a twin room and got there to find a double. I wouldn’t have bothered if my friend was a good looking girl however it was a hairy lad (haha).
The hotel is not the Ritz it’s pretty drab! It did not really bother me as we were out most of the time as it was a busy weekend we had planned.
Its location is excellent the beach, fair and tower etc are all nearby which is good. The food was actually ok but only ever had 1 drink in the bar so not sure on that.
It’s a cheap place to stay and I would say it’s great for a bunch of guys to go but I would certainly not take a woman there because she would be less than impressed.

Myself and some friends booked four rooms at this hotel. We knew it was only a two star hotel but the web site made it look very good However although we requested very specifically a no smoking room and were told on the phone this was what we were going to have.
We were given a smoking room in fact all the rooms are smoking the whole hotel is smoke bound there was cigarette ash on the bathroom floor (The bathroom was a broom cupboard with a shower and toilet on top of each other and the sink was in the bedroom) The carpet was absolutely filthy in the bedroom although the bed was clean (albeit smelling of cigarette smoke).
One member of the party who was unable to walk far due to knee injury booked a car parking space for his car at the front of the hotel at a cost of £20 but was told on arrival that there was no space for him and had his money refunded (luckily there is a public car park a few yards down the road and in fact this is only £13.00 for the same time) We were told that there was a 5 course evening meal included but on the Friday night we were given a tiny starter main course and dessert and coffee.
On the next two days we had soup course added. The bar didn't have slim line tonic, or chilled white wine, although they did offer to put an almost empty bottle of white wine in the fridge for later.
The hotel is extremely noisy both inside and outside. All six of us would agree that we would never go back here again. If you're a non smoker stay very, very clear of this one, since like me you will come back from your holiday with a chest problem.
