Akrotiri Beach Hotel Reviews
" The Akrotiri Hotel is about 15 miles... "

The Akrotiri Hotel is about 15 miles away from the airport. Directly by taxi it would take about 30 minutes to get there but if on a coach making drop offs expect about 90 minutes. The Akrotiri has been built on its’ own peninsular so which ever side of the hotel you stay in you can be guaranteed a sea view.
As you may see from other reviews, the hotel is a little dated but it should not detract from the holiday. The reception is very good and the staff could not be any more helpful. It cost 5 Euros for a safety deposit box for a week. There is also a very large lounge area, next to this a decent sized bar and large outside terraced area looking north to the beach below.
Although we did not spend our days by the pool it did seem very nice with plenty of cost free seating and its own café/ bar areas with separate toilet and changing areas.
The Bedroom was fine for our needs but in need of some updating. It met our requirements of air conditioning, fridge and sea view. The TV showed BBC World (the only English channel) and a variety of Greek and one German channel. The Beds are hard though, but you should not notice them too much if you have a few bevies before sleeping. The pillow was poor; you may as well have has a couple of tea towels folded in half and sleep on those. It would be an idea to buy one of those pillows you see in the airport on the way! There was also a balcony with 2 chairs and a table.
Restaurant - As we went B & B I can only comment on the breakfast which was fine allowing self service of a mixture of English or continental (Mix as you please). The view from here looking south is very impressive. Looking at the menu in the evening there was a choice of 3 starters, mains and desserts.
We prefer to eat out in the evenings and our favourite restaurant was just 100 metres down the road called Nereids - you could not wish to meet nicer waiters who will give you excellent service and then show off their Greek dancing while you eat/watch or even join in. The value is excellent and the most expensive meal I had was 60 euros for the 2 of us which was 2 bottles of Rose; ½ litre of lager, 2 litre of water; 2 starters; 2 mains; and 2 desserts.
We spent our days on the Beach. There are many steps taking you down from the hotel, but a lift is also available that will get you half way there. The beach was mainly white stones with some sand. It is definitely worth purchasing some swim shoes to walk on the stones otherwise you will struggle. To hire a sun lounger cost 3 euros and the parasol was 2 euros.
There are 2 bars on the beach and one also has a pool. All hotels & pools in Paleo allow free access to the public.
The beach also offers plenty of water sports, paragliding; skiing; banana boat; rings. There are also taxi boats that will take you to secluded beaches that can only be accessed from the sea. We also hired a motor boat at the beach for 90 euros for the whole day. I thought this was great value for a 30hp motor and canopy and the opportunity to go off and explore for yourself. You just day extra for the petrol you use throughout the day.
This is my second year back to the Akrotiri and I am sure I will return another time.

This year will be our fifth visit and we can’t wait!
Apart from the slightly dated decor, it is virtually impossible to fault this hotel. It is positioned on its own peninsular with stunning view from all sides. The staff are very friendly and can’t do enough for you.
If you want relaxation, you’ll find it here, whether by one of the two pools or by taking a stroll through the olive groves and along the coastline. A few small tavernas provide an alternative to the hotel’s own evening entertainment.
Meals consist mainly of local produce and for breakfast you can choose from both cooked and continental ( the local honey and fresh bread straight from the oven are wonderful). Dinner is 4 courses and lunch is served from both pool bars.
A low key holiday but totally refreshing.

It is a quiet resort with little or no nightlife beyond the usual tavernas and these are spread between the bays and can be quite a walk in an evening when temperatures are still in the 90's as it was when we were there. Taxi's are not that common and are often expensive as they can come out of Corfu Town. Water Taxi's are a great way to see the bays but are again expensive and don’t run at night.
The Monastery is a must, the views are spectacular though on this occasion I would recommend a taxi up to the top (about 10 euro from hotel). Local Bus services are not as regular as we would have liked, but they are air conditioned and its one of the simplest ways of getting into Corfu Town. Be sure to have a map though as finding your way to and from the bus depot can be a problem.
The hotel. We read all the reviews we could before booking and so were prepared for what we got. The hotel is dated, its 4 stars really only deserving when it was built in the 60/70's, forget the shop and hairdressers the brochures state as I don’t think these have been open for a decade or more. The Rooms are basic - the mini fridge only works when you are in the room as the power switch is activated by your key like many other hotels. The rooms really are only big enough comfortably for two and what ever they say about the 30 steps to the beach forget it, its tough going and the Beds are unbelievably hard.
Would we go again though - you bet. Yes the hotel may be dated and the beds hard, we knew that before we went, but the hotel does feel airy, the air-con that utmost essential worked brilliantly, the views were staggering the staff very friendly and the local beach was so nice we only ever went to the other bays once. If you want your water sports you can have them, skiing, paragliding, rings you name it. If your looking for a Taverna try Nausica a 10 minute walk.
We went with Olympic and full credit to the Rep Darren, knew his bits, was there when he said despite an injury and more importantly did not push. If you’re simply looking to chill out on some amazing beaches surrounded by some amazing scenery then this is the place. If you want something lively forget it, if you want to be more active - hire a car, Corfu's probably got what you’re looking for.
