Submitted By: Mr P CoyneFood good but a bit repetitive. The evening entertainment was the same most night’s couple singing the same songs. Only limited cocktails free on all inclusive. No aircon in rooms so during summer moths I imagine it would be quite unbearable. Hotel generally ok.

Submitted By: Ms K BannerWe arrived at 2am at Interclub to be told we were not booked in. After some discussion we were given a room with 2 single beds (2 ad, 1 ch in our party), back to reception to be given next key, when opening door the German couple sleeping in the room got as much of a shock as we did!
Finally at 3am we got a room which sufficed for the 2 days until we sorted out the mess (rather than the rep doing what she should have!).
Anyway, the IFA Beach is immaculate. Maid service is daily, friendly, and very efficient. The pool area is great, 2 pools, & 2 Jacuzzis. To get a sunbed be there just after 9 as the hotel is about 70% German, 20% Spanish and the VERY occasional UK guest, need I say more!!
The food was very good. Most of the bar staff were pleasant although there was one man who I don't think liked anyone at all!
Sadly, the entertainment was dire. There were two acts during our stay, both of man & woman duos. Boring and worse than elevator music. The occasional ballroom dancing couple seemed to enjoy it though. No variety in the entertainment.
Overall, the hotel was good and staff were lovely, food was good too. In my opinion though this isn't the best choice unless you're over 60 or just looking for a lot of early quiet nights!

Submitted By: Mr P NedeljkovicFood and drink was plentiful and served without reservation. The food did become a bit repetitive after a week, but always to a good standard. Entertainment in the hotel was varied and to a good standard. The pools are beautiful, and well maintained. The resort is lovely and quiet, but if you want to experience the high life there is a casino within five minutes walking distance, or you can get a taxi to Playa Del Ingles for about 4 euro. Buses to nearby towns are very cheap - 10 euro for return trip to Las Palmas ( the capital).
Hard to fault for what we paid. Could have done with air conditioning as there was a bit of a heat wave at the end of our stay - 45C, a bit clammy in the night but on the whole would definitely go again.

Submitted By: Mr Raymond BushellThe Restaurant staff were excellent. My wife had a great opportunity to practice her Spanish skills with them, and we were very impressed by the fact that all could speak a little of many languages. All were very kind and patient.
It's true that the majority of the clients in the hotel were German, There were some Dutch, Swiss and Austrian people, and there was of course a problem with the different languages, but a smile, some Spanish, English and some signs and we found that we could communicate fairly well.
The fact that there was no music around the pool we found to be a welcome factor. The entertainment in the evenings was excellent. A husband and wife duo, a saxophonist and a flautist, played a variety of music which seemed to suit everybody. There was other entertainment on other nights.
We were very pleased with the Reception staff. Very helpful and the taxi drive to and from the airport was carried out most efficiently. We didn't leave until 4.30 in the morning, and the taxi driver and receptionist gave us a nice farewell.
San Agustín is a quiet part of the southern part of Gran Canaria, and rather more pleasant than Playa Inglés and Maspalomas, both within easy reach.
We took a taxi drive to Mogan one day, which is a very small village/town with its own little harbour and Marina next door.
One or two points negative and positive.
The rooms were a bit small - we did wonder how some of the larger clients managed, but always clean.
After one week the buffet food did get a bit repetitive, but with that provision of food it is difficult to ring the changes overmuch.
We found a restaurant/bar called 'El Capitan' along the paseo, which was excellent, for food, service and friendliness.
All in all a great holiday.

Submitted By: Mr L ClarkIn Nov2006 we decided to get a last minute week away in the Canary Islands, Gran Canaria was recommended by the travel agent & she found us an all inclusive week in the IFA Beach Hotel, San Agustin, and Gran Canaria for the tidy sum of £400pp from a local airport, fantastic!
4hr flight & a 30min transfer to the hotel that lays a 5min taxi ride away from the lively resort of Playa del Ingles. Very attractive hotel with a lovely pool area that looks even better when lit up on the night. The staff were very friendly & the room & hotel were always clean.
The hotel is conveniently located for short journeys to Maspalomas, Puerto Rico, Melonarous, Mogan etc. The vast majority of guests were German & most aged 40-65yrs at a guess, so the daytime was pretty quiet around the pool & the night also. But if you’re looking for a quiet week away with a loved one then this would be ideal especially as there are very few English which can be a positive.
However I have given it 6/10 due to the following gripes:
1. You are not greeted at the hotel, the staff speak little English & trips proved difficult to book.
2. The rooms are small & basic but clean. No air conditioning which I imagine in the summer would be a nightmare. We were a couple but found 2 single beds which we had to move together. We had a ground floor room right next to the kitchen/restaurant & were often woken up as early as 5am as staff prepared breakfast. Our balcony was not segregated from the path & our view was not the sea as promised but an 8ft wall.
3. The hotel is not exclusively all inclusive as it accommodates half board guests too. This means that all inclusive guests have to pay for drinks after 11pm (bars open till 1am). Also my girlfriend loves Martini however we were told this was not part of the all inclusive package.
4. We stayed a week. The first night there was no entertainment just the barman’s hi-fi system with German radio on. The second night was an appalling band that consisted of a man playing a keyboard & brunette singing, not so well, songs both known & not known to me. The elderly Germans seemed to enjoy it & ballroom dance the night away.
Amazingly this band turned up & played the same set for 5 of the 7 nights we were there. Only on Saturday we were treated to a dancing group who to be fair were quite talented & got the German granddads involved.
5. During the day there was one bikini fashion show & half hour pool aerobics every other day. Nothing for kids day or night.
I could add a few more gripes but on the whole I had a good time. We had some good trips & saw much of the island & its beautiful resort. We had a couple of lively nights out in Playa del Ingles which was only 3euros in the taxi & dined once on the evening in Melonaros which was stunning.
We made the best of what we had but because we paid for all inclusive spent more time at the hotel than not. The food was fine but clearly chosen more for the German taste.
I gave it 6/10 despite the above criticisms because the staff are very polite & helpful & the hotel looks very nice & is always clean. That’s it. .oh just one more gripe, the brochure stated one of the 2 pools were heated as was the jacuzzi however unfortunately all were freezing & as a result not many people dared go in.

Submitted By: Mrs M StephensonThe service is exceptional and though some staff spoke little English, it was always easy to communicate. The food was lovely, particularly the breakfast, and although it was more German orientated, we loved the salads which were different every night. If you want more English food, just go for the Bed and Breakfast option and eat out every night, it is cheap enough. Entertainment - well we went out some evenings, the duo they have each night, Christian and Joseph, were good but it is steady lounge music, and yes, Germans do their dancing together thing, but it is all very amusing - we wished we could do it!!
You will find many speak English and are very friendly and funny people - have a conversation. There were some children, mainly younger than ours and we had two teenagers with us. Initially we were worried they would get bored, but they settled in to the swing of things, playing pool, ping pong and cards as the Germans do at the hotel in the evening - and we went out - there is a very busy resort of Playa del ingles just 10 minutes away including a hard rock cafe! Our ten year old made some German, Dutch and English friends.
The Pool area is gorgeous, like a paradise and once again immaculate, (don't forget to reserve your favourite spot with a towel at 9am!!) We paid extra for a sea view, which I would recommend as some rooms are at the back near the road. The beach was nice, very clean but it is the darker sand. There is an excellent bus service right outside the hotel from which we travelled to the Maspalomas sand dune beach, (watch out for the nudists, we walked straight through a nude game of bowls by mistake (!!) and the beautiful Puerto Rico and neighbouring Andoras man made beach, from which you can see the snow capped el Tiede mountain on Tenerife.
We have had a great week - we were apparently lucky with the weather, it was 30 degrees most days when the usual average is more like 20! The boys loved the brilliant go Karting which was a short taxi ride from the hotel. If you want a lovely, quiet base from which to see the sights of Gran Canaria with relative ease, good service and decent food, go here, it should really be a four star. If you have rowdy teenagers - don't go as there are lots of older people, or be prepared to do things with them. Ours can be a handful at the best of times but they behaved very well and enjoyed themselves - if you want to spend your entire holiday at your hotel and don't want to get out and about, don't go -if you only want to be with English people don't go - stick to Tenerife.
One warning - do not buy anything from the electrical shops - we were sold a dodgy camera - we did manage to get a replacement but no refund - do yourself a favour and don't buy anything.
Must visit - Palmitos Park

Submitted By: Miss L SaywellThere is no music round the pool no kids in the hotel in the evening there is the same blokes that come in to play German songs and the German people ball room dance to it!
The food never changes for lunch breakfast or dinner! Nice food just boring after 3 days! We were lucky we only had 3days there! The all inclusive board is a joke you can only have food at breakfast lunch and dinner time when in the brochure it says from 6am until 12am well we never found the snack bar as there weren’t one!
The all inclusive drinks were limited only and the bar staff would leave you waiting while they served the people who were half board as they were making money! The hotel is clean i must say that! And the rooms were nice we had four rooms in our party and all four rooms had two single beds in so for adults laying down in single beds is a joke.
The hotel is nice but based on older people no activities in day or night we had no shows in the eve and we were there for the new year . And there is no shops unless you walk the half hour walk down the beach to the nearest shops bars and restaurants which is a nice walk but very far just for some shops!

Submitted By: red arrowWe visited as a couple, along with my parents, and whilst we would agree that the hotel is very clean, we found that the food catered almost entirely for German tastes - there were chips every single night, no other form of potatoes at all. The plates were cold, which meant that the food was too, by the time you got back to your seat. We didn’t feel we were in the Canaries at all, as, besides the 4 of us, there were only 4 other non Germans there.
We transferred to another hotel after 4 days, not a moment too soon! Would not visit again, that’s for sure.

The standard of the rooms was very high - they aren’t huge but beautifully fitted, especially the bathrooms and kept immaculately clean. The public areas were also of high standard and cleaned religiously.
The gardens and pool area were absolutely charming - two irregularly shaped pools at different levels feeding one into the other, with a couple of Jacuzzis running off. Together with the lush tropical greenery, it was a delight to lie there in the sun - and were aren’t normally ones for lounging round the pool.
The food was excellent - plenty of choice each day and varied daily. The staff were really efficient and friendly.
You also have the option to upgrade to All-Inclusive for 10 euros per day. We didn’t take advantage of this as we’d hired a car, so were out and about a lot, but it was great value.
I’d recommend this hotel to anyone - it deserves at least another star!
Submitted By: Mr A JonesThe local beach looks dirty because the sand is half black, but actually it is clean and well kept. The impressive dunes of Maspalomas are 45 minutes walk or about €5 by taxi. Also, this is likely to be one of the first drop offs on the way towards Playa des Ingles from the airport.
One major caveat! About 12 of the 207 rooms are in a separate block at the back with a road directly outside the balcony and the noise of passing coaches and lorries completely drowns out any conversation. There is no air conditioning but shutting the door and window didn’t help much anyway and there is no chance of a lie in. This spoilt an otherwise perfectly good hotel.
So I would advise that anyone wishing to stay here to at least ensure that they specify a sea view room, which should solve the problem. If that makes it too expensive, find somewhere else.

Submitted By: Ms W GregoryThe hotel leads directly onto the beach - unfortunately this stretch of beach seems to be the worst in San Agustin - very dirty and smelly, however for a short taxi ride you can visit the beautiful sand dunes in Maspalomas.
The staff at IFA Beach are very helpful, even though they speak very little English. Entertainment is very limited and there are no daytime activities at all so if you have children there is very little for them to do.
Overall a very pleasant stay.
