Have stayed at the Novotel a couple of times and have found the staff very friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and the beds are huge and extremely comfy. Breakfast buffet has quite a variety of both Western and Asian fare as it is a very popular venue for Asian seminars and conventions. Although the Novotel is not very central, you can take a tuk tuk or songteow(?) into the old city for a few Baht. The upside of being away from the old city is that if you want to leave the nightlife behind when you decide to turn in, you definitely won't be disturbed by the noise when you call it a night. The view from poolside of Doi Suthep is brilliant and the snacks and light meals at the pool bar are excellent value for money. If retail therapy at the Night Bazaar is up your street then the Novotel provides a free shuttle service for guests there and back every evening from 7pm onwards. Should you enjoy a good old fashioned Thai massage just pop around the back of the hotel to Pinkaew (?) where you get an excellent 2 hour top to toe for 500 baht which is much cheaper than the poolside one offered at the hotel.

The rooms have dated furnishings but the rooms are large and clean. We found the cleaners very noisy in the morning - they seemed to have a room opposite ours where they meet up at 7 am and had their morning gossip!!
It isn’t central to the night market area but it is easy to get tuk tuks from the hotel for 60-80 bahts.
The tour operator in the hotel was expensive - the night safari that they organise would have cost use 1500 baht each - it only costs 500 baht to get in plus transport.
The restaurant was ok - we arrived about 11 pm and wanted something quick to eat , at that time of night there wasn’t any where to go and I would say the food was average.
The breakfast was fine in the morning .
The swimming pool area is nice - although not many loungers and when we went to have a look at 10 am they where all taken. Although when we returned about 4pmthere was plenty.
I would get a taxi from the airport - they have a set price from the airport - 120 baht very easy to organise when you arrive.

The Novotel in Chiang Mai is a well...

The Novotel in Chiang Mai is a well worth the money. The rooms are spacious with comfy beds. I stayed here for 5 days and although you can walk to the centre (20-30minutes), just jump into a tuk-tuk for 50 baht. There is also a big supermarket around the corner, which can never hear once in your room. The staff are extremely friendly and the restaurant boasts excellent cuisine. I would definitely stay here again.
