I can't in all honesty find much to criticise this hotel for - that said I can't find very much to praise it for either! My wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant stay I can't say we would never return but it would take a very good deal to get us to go back.
Plus points:
Clean, good food (which is varied and well presented), efficient lifts, good sized rooms, pleasant friendly staff and a general very pleasant ambience.
Minus points:
Not enough sunbeds to go round (even in November) maid service was a little bit "hit & Miss", queues for dining room, busy main road right outside, a little off the beaten track.

After staying at this hotel 3 years in a row, I can see how much it has gone downhill. The guests are mainly spanish, therefore, the entertainment is mainly aimed at them. The food in the restaurant, is good, BUT, very repeative and lots of fish(hake, squid rings and tuna). We have a small kid and he accidentally had an accident in the bed one night - the maid just remade the bed without changing it!! On a plus side, the hotel is clean and food is edible but wont be going back.

If you are looking to go half board and keep away from the main drag of the Brit bars this is the place to be. My wife, 12yr old daughter and I spent a week here and the food never became boring or repetative. Each night there is was a choice of fish, meat and a carved joint cooked to your liking in front of you. There were also plenty of other dishes to choose from. You may have a slight wait some nights depending on the time you dine but we never waited more than 5mins.
The animation club was varied and the staff unobtrusive if you didn't want to join in. They were also extremely friendly and didn't mind making a joke at your expense if they knew you were up for it. Daytime activities included mini golf, shooting, shuffle board, darts, bowls, boules plus others.
The pool was freezing (but a welcome relief some days) but it was clean and there was a small paddling pool for the younger family members. The beds were free and put away each night to stop people hogging them. Beware though, when we were there people queued for the pads during breakfast although there was enough to go round early season.
The room we stayed in was sufficient and cleaned daily.

Visited playa de las americas with my girlfriend in may, the hotel was brilliant, very clean, room was great. The room was cleaned everyday. The restaurant was good, clean and service by staff was good, food on offer was good, though im very fussy about my food, but the food was different every night and i was happy enough. The hotel pool was freezing though thats my only downfall about the hotel. There was lots to do in the town, excursions nearly everyday, i wouldnt recommend the booze cruise though it was a big let down, the night life was excellent i recommend linekers bar, probably the best bar in the world, loads of shops, we found a footlocker while shopping. Beaches werent nice, though thats because of the volcanic stones etc, watch out for the guys selling watches, sunglasses etc they never leave you alone. overall i was very happy with the holiday..

Me and my 21 yr old daughter stayed here in April had a lovely time, lovely hotel staff were very helpful and polite. Room was very spacious cleaned every day we had a room overlooking pool which was nice. Cant fault the food loads of choice even my fussy daughter had plenty to choose from. recommend the cakes for dessert they were delicious. Pool was bit cold but the weather was scorching when we were there and once you got in it was lovely to cool off, very impressed with the cleanliness of the pool area and had no problems getting a sun-bed even though some people still got up early and put towels down there was plenty of spare beds so not a problem. We didnt really stay in hotel in the evening so cant comment on the entertainment but there seemed to be plenty of people who stayed in the bar and it seemed lively enough. Would definitely recommend this hotel lovely place away from all the noise of the main strip but just on the doorstep if you fancied partying.

Superb hotel very well run. Pleasant staff, Good food and plenty of choice, very clean. as I have said it is run like a well oiled machine and in that respect I must commend the manager. The facilities of the hotel are excellent and the staff are helpful and polite
My only grouse being that the dress code is not enforced at dinner with guests allowed into the dining room in shorts and flipflops despite the rules of the hotel. Had it not been for this small but significant item I would have rated it of 4 star standard.

My family and I have just returned from this hotel, we only stayed for a week and we were all very disappointed we weren't staying for longer. The food was out of this world it was fantastic, the staff were very pleasent. My husband has kidney failure and they went out of their way to do everything they could to make our stay pleasurable. we were very impressed by the condition of the pool. I have never stayed in a hotel where they have cleaned the pool twice a day. They had a lifeguard at the pool side all the time and were very nice. We had two rooms and we asked for them to be next to each other and in a quite spot witch we got. I rate this hotle more than a 3 star. We will deffernatly be staying here again.

stayed here for a short break. hotel clean enough. pool area tidy, plenty of sun beds, but the resteraunt was pathetic. we had to queue for thirty mins to get in .when we eventually got a table it had food debris all over it .we had to tell the waiter to change the tablecloth. the whole room was smokey due to one chef who will cook burgers or
stuff to order. the food was buffet type, usual crap, of chefs special fish which consisted of all leftovers covered in sauce;same with chefs special meat, which had no description of type of meat and was tasteless and tough.
found some processed cheese and square ham but there were flies on it so we just decided to eat out for the rest of the duration. the smell of fried food seemed to hang on your clothes. no reps in this hotel, you have to phone england.but there are plenty of reps in the columbus over the road to book you on over priced trips.on a more positive note there is a fab little cafe bar called mathews, just out of the hotel turn right and a couple of hundred yards down the road. very friendly and do great
breakfasts and snacks.would probably stay here on again only if it was self catering.

We have just returned from our second visit to the Oro Negro, and would happily book again.
The hotel is, for us, ideally situated, and only 5 minutes walk from the main bars & restaurants. Our room was lovely and clean, very spacious and as we were on the south side of the building, we had an L shaped balcony, so could move around with the sun. Absolutely loads of space. The bathroom was very clean, and the only fault I would comment on, is the fact that the shower, at its full power is a bit too powerful which meant that water would escape from the shower curtain and run on to the floor.
The bedroom is very clean, ample room to put all your clothes etc. Safe requires a key from reception, we paid €18 + €10 deposit for it. Worth it for the peace of mind for your valuables! There is an air con unit, but we didn't need to use it as we had enough fresh air with the window/balcony door open - plus it was March and there is a ceiling fan.
Room was cleaned daily, and the chambermaids were very friendly, always speaking to us in passing.
The restaurant is large and we were recognised by one of the waitresses/hostess as being return visitors, which was a nice touch, I thought.
The tables were swiftly cleared and relaid for the next people - I would recommend taking something to leave on the table/chair when you go to the buffet to show you're coming back or they will clear your table and you may find someone else sitting there when you get back!
The plates were not always as clean as they could have been, but we just kept going through the stack until we found ones without any marks on, again not a huge criticism but is something that can happen in the best restaurants especially with the huge turnover at meal times.
The food! We were half board and can honestly say that we were stuffed most nights! The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of fresh fruits, cereals, ham, cheese, bread, croissants, pastries & rolls, hot sausages, beans, eggs, spanish omelette, plus they cooked omelettes, bacon and eggs to order. I had the omelette twice and it was very tasty! Also had fruit juices, water, tea & coffees to serve yourself.
Dinner had a variety of salads, cold meats, cheeses, pates, one night there were mussels which were spot on! There were also soups, bread & rolls, pizza, freshly cooked spaghetti with choice of sauce, usually 3 choices of meat/fish dishes, 2-3 different vegetables and 2-3 types of potato/rice dishes to choose from, plus the food cooked to order, with a meat (steak/chicken) or fish or burger/sausage combo. Sliced roast meat and gravy were also available.
Dessert was a variety of fruit salads, ice creams, yoghurts, pastries & cakes plus fresh fruit. The waiters took orders for drinks at the table.
Thursday night was Gala night, which I found disappointing compared to the previous year, but they also had singers and a complimentary glass of sparkling wine, and a carnation for the ladies on leaving the restaurant. I felt the food on the Wednesday, when they served mussels, was more in keeping with a Gala night, but thats just my opinion!
On the whole, the staff are friendly. The same lifeguard was there as the last time; we observed him last year permanently (it seemed) standing the warning signs about the wet floor around the pool, as soon as he moved away they fell over again... This year he had an obsession with moving tables back from the walkway and making people get mattresses from the hut for their sunbeds - the queue for those starts at 9:45 but there are plenty to go around, so we didn't bother to queue and still got them ok.
Its a nice location, fair enough if you're placed in a room overlooking the road, there may be a fair bit of traffic noise, so ask for a pool view, that is also the view over the town and sea so is lovely in the evening sitting on your balcony having a drink before going out!
We would have no hesitation in returning.

Just returned from this hotel found it to be of a very good standard. The food is the usual buffet fare. They cooked the meat/fish fresh in front of you which led to queues forming. There is a 3 lane road outside so quite a lot of noise for those of us at the front.
The room we were allocated had two sepatate bedrooms each with its own tv and bathroom there was only two of us so to be fair on the maid we only used one.
The staff were friendly enough if you asked them anything. The hotel is clean and well run and within easy walking distance of sea front and shopping areas. I saw one those electric wheelchairs being charged up in the hotel so there is disability access. There is plenty of sunbathing room in the pool area, night entertainment is ok (if they were really good they would not be working in hotels). We never had any problem with the area the hotel was in, but then we don`t roam the streets in the middle of the night.

We thought the hotel was stunning; staff were all very friendly and approachable. Food was ideal, much better than expected. The view from our balcony toward mount Teide was out of this world.
The position of the hotel was great, far enough from the noisy areas and within easy reach of beach, shops, and bars.
Had a fantastic day on mount Teide in a 4x4 jeep as part of a tour party to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary, meet a lovely Scottish couple, our driver, Les, was great.
Our only criticism is we wish we had gone for longer.

Just returned from a week’s holiday staying at the Catalonia Oro Negro in Playa de Las Americas Tenerife, we were a party of four adults. And what a great hotel this is to stay in, starting from management down to the chamber maids, they all had a smile on their face and weren’t frightened to speak to you.
Ricardo and Oscar the entertainment staff were great fun and made playing the various games that one plays when on holiday funny. You’d better watch out for the darts if you fancy a game as they are not only lightweight but very blunt which made them bounce out of the board, there were a few near misses towards the players feet.
Good food was on offer with a big choice, I can be quite choosy when it comes to what I eat but I ate well and have no complaints about it. A very nice touch from this hotel also was the ladies receiving a carnation after dinner on the Thursday evening.
Before going to this hotel we were warned that the pool was very very cold which it was, but once in and shoulders were under the water it was very enjoyable and just like any other outdoor pool.
My only complaint and it wasn’t the hotels fault, is that it is situated at the top of a pretty steep incline, people with walking difficulties should be warned before booking a holiday here, although there are places you can hire both wheelchairs and mobility scooters plus they will deliver to the hotel. I myself have difficulties walking so I found walking down the hill ok but as taxis don’t cost an arm or leg. We used to hire one to come back to the hotel again, so this should not deter you from booking this hotel.
All in all I would not hesitate to book this hotel again should we return to the area of Playa De Las Americas.

We spend a nice week on the Hotel Catalonia Oro Negro during Aug/07.
Even the hotel are tree stars, we found very goods points like: nice rooms (space, clean and big bathroom), air conditioner, TV with international channels.
Other surprise was the restaurant and the service. The personal was very friendly and they offer different food every day.
When we arrived (after 00.00pm), they offer a catering for all guests. On Thursday, at dinner, they offer a bottle of champagne.
So in general we could recommend the hotel for new visitors.

Second time we stayed at this hotel. Was very good last year, that’s why we returned, even better this year.
Rooms cleaned every day. Clean towels etc beds changed weekly, I think.
Food very good, lots of choices even have a "diabetic" counter now.
Breakfast - fresh fruit daily, melon, papaya, cooked apples, water melon, grapefruit etc musli, sugar puffs, coco pops corn flakes, yoghurt, rolls bread, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, omelettes prepared as you wait ,mushrooms, tomatoes, spanish omelette, beans, cheese , cold meats, Danish pastries. Coffee, tea, hot choc, fruit juices, water.
Dinner- always 2 different pastas and sauces, hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken, pork, fish, salads, cold meats and cheeses. bread, pizza.
Thursday night is festival night.....free champers! Ladies receive a carnation and men , a cigar.
Lunch - much same as dinner but on a smaller scale.
Hotel staff in restaurant brilliant! Specially the Maitre d Simone, will miss her.
Excursions - Skypark is closed. Loro Park is amazing, orcas.
If you have kids you must go visit the Monkey Park. Just 10 mins outside Las Americas. Second year we have been and will go again.
Medieval Night worth going to but food not that good. Pirates were closed.
Toriviscous market worth going to Los Cristianos not way too crowded.
Trip to Teide is a must and a trip out to see the whales is worth doing at least once, but if you have kids, choose a small boat.
Only drawback is that the sun beds do not have mattresses, so buy air beds.

I thought the Oro Negro was amazing. it was clean and I didn’t see 1 cockroach which is a big factor to me. It was located within walking distance of the beach and bars and restaurants.
The only disappointing thing was the food as my wife is vegetarian and the hotel did not provide for vegetarians in many good ways, but when you go on holiday its nice to eat out each night, that’s part of the holiday.
There was a great Italian restaurant just 5 minutes down the road, and a brilliant Chinese a few doors down. We liked it so much that we are going back there in July.
All in all a great hotel! I would recommend this to everyone.
