Just returned from this hotel found it to be of a very good standard. The food is the usual buffet fare. They cooked the meat/fish fresh in front of you which led to queues forming. There is a 3 lane road outside so quite a lot of noise for those of us at the front.
The room we were allocated had two sepatate bedrooms each with its own tv and bathroom there was only two of us so to be fair on the maid we only used one.
The staff were friendly enough if you asked them anything. The hotel is clean and well run and within easy walking distance of sea front and shopping areas. I saw one those electric wheelchairs being charged up in the hotel so there is disability access. There is plenty of sunbathing room in the pool area, night entertainment is ok (if they were really good they would not be working in hotels). We never had any problem with the area the hotel was in, but then we don`t roam the streets in the middle of the night.

We thought the hotel was stunning; staff were all very friendly and approachable. Food was ideal, much better than expected. The view from our balcony toward mount Teide was out of this world.
The position of the hotel was great, far enough from the noisy areas and within easy reach of beach, shops, and bars.
Had a fantastic day on mount Teide in a 4x4 jeep as part of a tour party to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary, meet a lovely Scottish couple, our driver, Les, was great.
Our only criticism is we wish we had gone for longer.

Just returned from a week’s holiday staying at the Catalonia Oro Negro in Playa de Las Americas Tenerife, we were a party of four adults. And what a great hotel this is to stay in, starting from management down to the chamber maids, they all had a smile on their face and weren’t frightened to speak to you.
Ricardo and Oscar the entertainment staff were great fun and made playing the various games that one plays when on holiday funny. You’d better watch out for the darts if you fancy a game as they are not only lightweight but very blunt which made them bounce out of the board, there were a few near misses towards the players feet.
Good food was on offer with a big choice, I can be quite choosy when it comes to what I eat but I ate well and have no complaints about it. A very nice touch from this hotel also was the ladies receiving a carnation after dinner on the Thursday evening.
Before going to this hotel we were warned that the pool was very very cold which it was, but once in and shoulders were under the water it was very enjoyable and just like any other outdoor pool.
My only complaint and it wasn’t the hotels fault, is that it is situated at the top of a pretty steep incline, people with walking difficulties should be warned before booking a holiday here, although there are places you can hire both wheelchairs and mobility scooters plus they will deliver to the hotel. I myself have difficulties walking so I found walking down the hill ok but as taxis don’t cost an arm or leg. We used to hire one to come back to the hotel again, so this should not deter you from booking this hotel.
All in all I would not hesitate to book this hotel again should we return to the area of Playa De Las Americas.

We spend a nice week on the Hotel Catalonia Oro Negro during Aug/07.
Even the hotel are tree stars, we found very goods points like: nice rooms (space, clean and big bathroom), air conditioner, TV with international channels.
Other surprise was the restaurant and the service. The personal was very friendly and they offer different food every day.
When we arrived (after 00.00pm), they offer a catering for all guests. On Thursday, at dinner, they offer a bottle of champagne.
So in general we could recommend the hotel for new visitors.

Second time we stayed at this hotel. Was very good last year, that’s why we returned, even better this year.
Rooms cleaned every day. Clean towels etc beds changed weekly, I think.
Food very good, lots of choices even have a "diabetic" counter now.
Breakfast - fresh fruit daily, melon, papaya, cooked apples, water melon, grapefruit etc musli, sugar puffs, coco pops corn flakes, yoghurt, rolls bread, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, omelettes prepared as you wait ,mushrooms, tomatoes, spanish omelette, beans, cheese , cold meats, Danish pastries. Coffee, tea, hot choc, fruit juices, water.
Dinner- always 2 different pastas and sauces, hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken, pork, fish, salads, cold meats and cheeses. bread, pizza.
Thursday night is festival night.....free champers! Ladies receive a carnation and men , a cigar.
Lunch - much same as dinner but on a smaller scale.
Hotel staff in restaurant brilliant! Specially the Maitre d Simone, will miss her.
Excursions - Skypark is closed. Loro Park is amazing, orcas.
If you have kids you must go visit the Monkey Park. Just 10 mins outside Las Americas. Second year we have been and will go again.
Medieval Night worth going to but food not that good. Pirates were closed.
Toriviscous market worth going to Los Cristianos not way too crowded.
Trip to Teide is a must and a trip out to see the whales is worth doing at least once, but if you have kids, choose a small boat.
Only drawback is that the sun beds do not have mattresses, so buy air beds.

I thought the Oro Negro was amazing. it was clean and I didn’t see 1 cockroach which is a big factor to me. It was located within walking distance of the beach and bars and restaurants.
The only disappointing thing was the food as my wife is vegetarian and the hotel did not provide for vegetarians in many good ways, but when you go on holiday its nice to eat out each night, that’s part of the holiday.
There was a great Italian restaurant just 5 minutes down the road, and a brilliant Chinese a few doors down. We liked it so much that we are going back there in July.
All in all a great hotel! I would recommend this to everyone.

The location of the hotel was really good, there were shops just round the corner, and the beach wasn’t that far away about a 10min walk. The beach was really nice and tidy.
The nightclubs were just around the corner about 5min walk. There were a lot of pubs and restaurants around the hotel so if you were self-catering it was not far to walk.
There were a few really good shopping malls that were about a 20-30min walk or a taxi for about 2 Euros.
The hotel was clean and tidy and the rooms were cleaned every day. I didn’t see any cockroaches in the hotel. Our shower broke while we were there but we told reception and someone came to fix it within 10mins and was fixed straight away.
The staff were not overly friendly but very efficient. The staff also couldn’t speak very good English but they could enough to understand what we wanted.
The reps during the day that arranged and supervised the sports and games were very entertaining and friendly. We asked one of the reps if he could arrange water-polo for us and so he changed the rotas for us so that we could play it.
The pool was very nice to lie by during the day, especially if you’d had a late night the night before. The nightlife was superb. Really nice and everyone out there is really friend when they are in the bars. It made our holiday.
The downfalls about the hotel were that most of the people staying at the hotel were over 50. As I was 18 when I went to this hotel this wasn’t that good for me. But I was with 2 of my girl mates and we did meet 2 guys at our hotel and when we went to the beach and the clubs we made loads of friends, so it wasn’t as bad as we thought it would be.
The life guard by the pool was also very strict and did not let us jump into the pool or splash or play with beach balls or shout, we didn’t really listen to him that much though and in the end he left us alone in the end.
The food was also not brilliant…. it was nice enough to eat but it wasn’t the nicest food I’d ever had, it was cold, and none of the food tasted fresh.
I would recommend the hotel but I would say that you would be best to go self-catering, as the food is so cheap in the restaurants and a lot nicer than the hotel food.

Clean hotel, rooms good. Usual buffet style restaurant. Food nothing special. Poorly presented at times. Some foods only warm, to be avoided.
The location is quite some distance from the main front area, and probably in a red light
area. Escort club only a few doors away, together with the ladies of the night sat on the walls at various intervals.
The lively night area is just a few hundred yards round the corner if you like that sort of evening. Lots of road works when we were there looked a bit like Beirut. To be avoided at darkness. May well improve the area when completed.
All in all nothing really outstanding to report. Won't be recommending to our friends.

We were delighted with the room. Clean, comfortable and quiet (apart from inconsiderate holiday makers next door to us - but the hotel cannot be held responsible for them!). Cleaned by courteous staff daily.
Dining room: Good variety of food for breakfast - fruits, cheeses and hams, cooked eggs bacon mushrooms beans etc and a special service where freshly cooked eggs and bacon were prepared for you whilst you waited. Toast, jams, pastries, hot and cold drinks and cereals.
Evening meal - Fruits, soups, bread, salads, fish, meats, pasta, rice and potatoes. Pizza, freshly prepared food each night whilst you wait, grilled chops or fish for example. Sweet dishes and ice creams. A waiter service for alcoholic beverages.
Super staff in the dining room. Courteous staff on reception. Entertainments in the evening. A minus side - but common too many Tenerife hotels - the swimming pool water was freezing!
The hotel was situated opposite a free car park - handy if you hire a car, and behind that was the golf course. A few restaurants nearby and a short walk to the town.
Tenerife has many interesting features and it is worth getting out and about. We saw a lot of the island during the week.
If we go back there we would not hesitate to stay again at the Oro Negro hotel.

We were slightly disappointed to find that the majority of people at this hotel were 50+ years of age. The hotel staff were polite but spoke little English. The food was plenty but was tasteless and often cold.
The rooms were very well kept although no tea making facilities were available, shocking for us English! The location of the hotel is a small taxi ride from the main clubs and pubs and I would advise anyone to use this service as it can be a lonely walk home in the early hours.
If you want a quiet holiday or are going with small children then this hotel would suit but would not recommend for the younger generation.

What an ideal location, it was in the middle of Playa Americas and Los Christianos, so were kept happy with walking and exploring! I was a bit wary before going as you how a lot of people get mugged and lady's of the night! well we saw one!
The hotel was great our room had a pool view with balcony which was great. Cleaned everyday though 2 days before we left cockroaches did appear which I wasn't happy with! I would have given a higher rating if it hadn't been for them!
Food wise it was the usual buffet style, breakfast wasn't brilliant best to stick with fruit etc sausages I didn’t like! Evening meals were ok nothing brilliant but we ate out most of the time anyway. Good Chinese restaurant a few doors away.
Overall it was a brilliant holiday you certainly can't fault the location of hotel, and a visit to Mount Teide is a must!

We have just returned from our second visit to the Oro Negro, and would happily book again.
The hotel is, for us, ideally situated, and only 5 minutes walk from the main bars & restaurants. Our room was lovely and clean, very spacious and as we were on the south side of the building, we had an L shaped balcony, so could move around with the sun. Absolutely loads of space. The bathroom was very clean, and the only fault I would comment on, is the fact that the shower, at its full power is a bit too powerful which meant that water would escape from the shower curtain and run on to the floor.
The bedroom is very clean, ample room to put all your clothes etc. Safe requires a key from reception, we paid €18 + €10 deposit for it. Worth it for the peace of mind for your valuables! There is an air con unit, but we didn't need to use it as we had enough fresh air with the window/balcony door open - plus it was March and there is a ceiling fan.
Room was cleaned daily, and the chambermaids were very friendly, always speaking to us in passing.
The restaurant is large and we were recognised by one of the waitresses/hostess as being return visitors, which was a nice touch, I thought.
The tables were swiftly cleared and relaid for the next people - I would recommend taking something to leave on the table/chair when you go to the buffet to show you're coming back or they will clear your table and you may find someone else sitting there when you get back!
The plates were not always as clean as they could have been, but we just kept going through the stack until we found ones without any marks on, again not a huge criticism but is something that can happen in the best restaurants especially with the huge turnover at meal times.
The food! We were half board and can honestly say that we were stuffed most nights! The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of fresh fruits, cereals, ham, cheese, bread, croissants, pastries & rolls, hot sausages, beans, eggs, spanish omelette, plus they cooked omelettes, bacon and eggs to order. I had the omelette twice and it was very tasty! Also had fruit juices, water, tea & coffees to serve yourself.
Dinner had a variety of salads, cold meats, cheeses, pates, one night there were mussels which were spot on! There were also soups, bread & rolls, pizza, freshly cooked spaghetti with choice of sauce, usually 3 choices of meat/fish dishes, 2-3 different vegetables and 2-3 types of potato/rice dishes to choose from, plus the food cooked to order, with a meat (steak/chicken) or fish or burger/sausage combo. Sliced roast meat and gravy were also available.
Dessert was a variety of fruit salads, ice creams, yoghurts, pastries & cakes plus fresh fruit. The waiters took orders for drinks at the table.
Thursday night was Gala night, which I found disappointing compared to the previous year, but they also had singers and a complimentary glass of sparkling wine, and a carnation for the ladies on leaving the restaurant. I felt the food on the Wednesday, when they served mussels, was more in keeping with a Gala night, but thats just my opinion!
On the whole, the staff are friendly. The same lifeguard was there as the last time; we observed him last year permanently (it seemed) standing the warning signs about the wet floor around the pool, as soon as he moved away they fell over again... This year he had an obsession with moving tables back from the walkway and making people get mattresses from the hut for their sunbeds - the queue for those starts at 9:45 but there are plenty to go around, so we didn't bother to queue and still got them ok.
Its a nice location, fair enough if you're placed in a room overlooking the road, there may be a fair bit of traffic noise, so ask for a pool view, that is also the view over the town and sea so is lovely in the evening sitting on your balcony having a drink before going out!
We would have no hesitation in returning.
