Fantastic Getaway!
My fiance and I just spent 6 days at Blue Waters Inn. We were looking for a relaxing few days away from the hustle and bustle and Blue Waters sure fit the bill. We stayed in one of the bungalows and it was clean, comfortable and well-maintained. The view of Batteaux Bay was fantastic. Staff were friendly and helpful. This is a casual Caribbean hotel so visitors should be prepared as such.
Surly staff, disorganised, could do with a makeover
We just spent four nights at Blue Waters; it was our second visit (was there in August 2000). Like pretty much all of Tobago, service is slow and staff seemed to lack both adequate training and motivation. Whereas we were very pleased with our stay five years ago, the only attraction of Blue Waters now is its secluded location, good (but narrow and over-shaded) swimming beach and proximity to dive sites. The difference between Blue Waters, which has the feel of a dull motel, and a charming guest house like Sea Horse Inn, is day and night.... more
Great location, poor staff and badly needing renovation
We have just returned from a marvellous 10 day vacation in Tobago. During our stay we spent 3 nights at each of the Blue Waters Inn, Kariwak Village Hotel, and Seahorse Inn. The Blue Waters Inn was the second of our stops in Tobago and the drive into Speyside and the Blue Waters Inn is quite spectacular. However unfortunately that's almost as good as it gets. Our room was bright and clean although we did have plumbing problems. First we had to strip down the shower head and seriously clean in order to make the shower work at all and then... more
wunderbar
Very friendly stuff. The hotel-manager, duane (a very nice guy...) asked us every day about our wishes, giving us 2 Tours for free, just because of some little noisy work near the hotel. Fodd was good, drinks too... Very good service. I think, the Batteau Bay is on of the best place down there in Tobago. Not more then 15 peopla at the same time on the beach, quiet, phantastic... If you´re Carl Lewis, you could try to jump out of Your Window just into the sea... feels like paradies. The Dive-Shop was exellent.<br... more
Real deal Caribbean
This hotel’s got to be the best positioned on Tobago in its own tranquil picture postcard bay, with friendly and courteous staff happily providing good honest service – a joy for once in the Caribbean. The rooms may be basic but, but, hey, the lights and hot water work and they are clean and virtually mozzy free and who wants to go all this way to stay instead in a modern concrete edifice anyway? The restaurant cooking is simple but sound and free of the cheap margarine scourge that keeps popping up in the most unexpected places and... more
Lovely tropical setting but some limitations
Marketed at the UK Bird Fair as a birding destination, but some limitations. Wonderful setting on the beach opposite Little Tobago, with guided boat trips for eco-tourism / snorkelling. Rooms decent sized, adequate, and clean with verandah and AC. The food is expensive for what you get, and we preferred to make the sweaty 15 minute hike into Speyside for breakfast and dinner on some days. The Friday "manager's rum punch and buffet" was good. The staff were OK, reception helpful and friendly, some perhaps a bit reserved but no problems and... more
Tropical Paradise
Vacationed at Blue Waters in October and loved every minute! But it must be what you are looking for. It is on the opposite end of the island where all the "activity" takes place...so it's not for party-ers! But neither is Tobago! If you want to enjoy a beautiful island retreat, Blue Waters is the place for you. It is situated in it's own private bay, where you can swim, snorkle, kayak and sun. The flowers, palms and tropical plant life are stunning...and Birds!!! It's a "birders" destination...colorful and varied, their tunes cheer... more
Badly run hotel
Trip dates: 24th Jan to 8th Feb 2005 Blue Waters is situated in a wonderful little cove, protected from the worst of the weather by Little Tobago and Goat Island. However, whilst we were there, there was no bad weather to be protected from. Hot and humid every day. The hotel would justify a 3-star rating in the UK. The rooms are fairly clean, a decent size and are prefectly adequate for a couple of weeks stay. Cosmetically the hotel buildings are good - a fresh coat of paint has done wonders. ... more
Perfectly OK
we spent two weeks at blue waters over Christmas and New Year ( a last minute deal, hence the long stay). We were not atall sure what to expect since reviews seem to vary wildly. Overall, in the end, the place was absolutely fine. the room (standard) was quite big, clean and comfortable, but the decor was quite...lively. The location is good. The beach is very nice (despite mudslides because of the unseasonal rain), not very crowded and the kayaks are fun. No real snorkelling to be had in the bay though. The diving was good.... more
Expensive but the best of limited options
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights over New Year 2005. Unfortunately the rainy season had caused a lot of landslides so the "crystal clear waters" were a muddy mess and you couldn't see further than your hand in the water in the bay surrounding the inn. The murkiness extends right out into the bay. There was no indication how long this would last. We had a room on the ground floor of the 2-storied accommodation, clean and airy. This meant we were only a few feet from the water which was good. The second floor only has access to... more
