totally dissapionted with this hotel infact with sunny beach in general. not a f
stayed in grandhotel sunnybeach in july 08 booked it sept 07 thinking it was a family hotel. we were to find out this was not the case the hotel was full of german and dutch teenagers spitting everywhere breaking glasses my young child cut his foot on some glass. there was no entertainment and the two women that run the lobby bar where nasty and rude to everyone and snapped at the children. the food was ok but always cold. and you dont get cocktails unless you pay for them or diet coke. all inclusive is very limited. as for sunnybeach i wouldnt recomend it for families its more for stag nights. and if it was cheap things have changed a meal out for 2 adults and a child was around £30 and that was just main course and a drink each. it was my first time there i think ile stick to turkey or spain.
Sunny Beach Resort
My boyfriend and I stayed at the resort of Sunny Beach for 2 weeks, date of travel was 9th July 2008.... what can I say except it was Blackpool with better weather or like Playa De Las Americas on 'speed' ... The sea has jellyfish near the shore, and it is has seaweed which gets tangled in your feet. The beach is used as urinals in the evenings as some of the bars / restaurants back onto the beach. When there are 18-30's doing their bar crawl along the main pedestrianised strip you can't move as they more or less take over... You have to pay to use the toilets whether you are in a bar / restaurant and that's if you find a toilet to use (hence the use of the beach by some people!!). The food in restaurants is not very good, they seem to have chinese, indian, grills and italian and mexican on the one menu (jack of all trades - master of none... springs to mind). So KFC and Mcdonalds was our evening meals most of the nights, and I'm not even a fussy eater. You get hasseled by touts for the bars / restaurants. The main drag is full of fake handbags, dvd, cd and fake clothes shops. Nothing scenic about this place. I would not recommend it unless you are early 20's on the pull....!! I certainly won't be recommending this resort to anyone and definately won't be going back... ever.
Excellent
What a brilliant holiday, after reading other reviews of the hotel i was slightly worried that it was going to be a disappointment, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. The hotel was very clean and well organized, with more than enough staff to cater to all needs. The rooms were large and airy, with good air conditioning, and excellent bathrooms with a good shower. The standard of cleaning in the rooms was excellent, everyday the room was spotless and the cleaners went so far as to fold clothes that were lying around and line up shoes neatly! Before going I was also a little concerned that it was going to be really noisy at night, but not one night did I have trouble sleeping, despite being quite near the pool bar and main strip on the promenade. We stayed all inclusive, and the food was excellent, past reviews have said it was terrible, but it has definitely changed. Every morning there was a full English cooked breakfast available, along with cereals and fruit, and a full continental breakfast too. There was also plenty of good coffee, along with a wide selection of teas. The lunch and dinner were similar, the food was outstanding, a large selection of Bulgarian specialties were available, such as goulash, along with all different meats, such as chicken breasts, steaks, sausages, pork chops etc. There was endless supplies of fresh delicious salads and vegetables, and for the less adventurous there was always food such as chips, fishfingers, meatballs, pizza... The hotel seemed to be occupied by a good mix, while we were there there were groups from Poland, Bulgaria, Scotland and Germany with us English too. This hotel was excellent, please give it a try and you will be only too happy to recommend it to others.
Nice Hotel
I'd never herd tell of Sunny Beach until this year, not many people went there due to some trouble in the 90's I believe, now though the flood gates have really opened. the hotel was very nice, rooms fine, we had no bother with the lifts, staff were very good, (not much English though), food was ok, the pork was very as was the salads, pool area was lovely and clean, and the hotel is right on the beach. Hundreds of shops and stalls on the strip, where you can just about buy anything, and loads of beach bars and restaurants. I was very surprised actually, Oh, and everything is so so cheap. I would recommend the shoping trip to Varna which takes in the dolphin show which was just amazing. Then there's the Bulgarian night, which was very good. Book these tours through your rep only, very important that. Also, only change your money in the hotel or at the "Crown" exchange booths on the strip, never ever from men or women on the street. All in all, we had a great time, a great week. So, lighten up fellow holidaymakers and you'll have a blast. Slan. from all in sunny Donegal.
Best holiday
People were really friendly some a bit strange though but you get people like that in UK :D, pool was very refreshing although couldn't really stay in there all day, was a bit too cold. Food was lovely, cheap drinks (no complaining) best holiday ive ever had, met my current girlfriend there, climate was lovley although had a couple of thunderstorms and night life was great. Beautiful golden sand, sea was lovely and warm. Would recommend this resort to anyone who wants a great time in Bulgaria
enjoyable
we have just returned from our holiday of two weeks.First impressions very clean.Rooms were very spacious but beds a little hard, staff very friendly especially Peta always had a smile for you.food was ok but got a little boring in the second week.Maids came in every day with clean towels and changed sheets every other day.the resort isnt very big and theres only so many times you can look at the same shops!.hotel right on the beach which was great.lifts were a nightmare only two which got very busy at meal times found yourself waiting for ages or taking the stairs.would recomend this hotel though as clean staff polite and central in the area.not alot of entertainment but lots of bars with buy one get one free offers.weather was fantastic too.
Good, clean Hotel
We upgraded to the 4star Grand Hotel Sunny Beach (also called Hotel Sunny Beach) after an apalling 3 nights in the 3star Palas Hotel. The Grand Hotel was of a far superior standard and just goes to show the difference a star rating can make somewhere like Bulgaria. Our room was clean and spacious, with two comfortable twin beds, a sofa, large wardrobe (plenty of hangers supplied), vanity table, TV and mini bar. The bathroom was large and very clean. The balconies are a respectable size and we had a nice view from our floor. The pool area is nice and there are plenty of sunbeds. People do not leave towles on them at night or in the early hours so you should find it pretty easy to grab one in the mornings. The pool itself was kept clean. The food was OK. I'm not a big meat eater though, so I loved the salads on offer. My boyfriend did say the meat was pretty bad though and a lot of other guests were complaining about the food. The restaurant did run out of cuttelry and plates at busy times which was annoying. There only 2 lifts (the hotel has 12 floors) which were unbelieveably slow and very small, so we were often left waiting ages and at peak times (eg about 5pm when people were coming in from the pool) there was a big queue. I found the staff alright. No-one was rude but then again no-one except the staff at the pool bar and one of the porters were especially friendly either. The hotel is in central location on the main strip, right beside the beach. We had no trouble with noise at night so I can definately recommend this hotel for people looking for a quieter holiday. Personally, I didn't think much of Sunny Beach as a resort so I wouldn't recommend it, but I talked to other people who felt differently so just read a few reviews if your thinking of going and see what different people have to say.
first and last visit
the hotel was very clean, had a fantastic 2 roomed hotel room with sea views. food was not very good but this wasnt a problem as very cheap to eat out. but the plates were all chipped and none the same size. there was never any spoons available and when asked staff would wash a few up and bring them out. staff all looked miserable except the bar staff around the pool. no entertainment in hotel other than the usual 2 in the dining room and in general although sunny beach is a large resort, the entertainment was very very poor. wanted to come home after a few days as there are only so many times you can look at shops all selling the same stuff. the bulgarians selling stuff could be friendly while you looked interested but very abrubt if you said you didnt want to buy. prostitutes are a pain as are the beggers would not go to this resort again.
Meritsa becomes the Meridian
If you’re going to Sunny Beach then I can just about recommend this hotel. The Meritza and Meridian have combined and the whole complex is now known as The Meridian and upgraded to 4* (See my report on Hotel grading in Sunny Beach report). The refurbishment that took place over the winter of 2004/2005 has been rushed and in some places the hotel is a little rough around the edges, but in general to a good standard. Some of the bathrooms have yet to be finished and we were unlucky to get one of these, but were told by others that the completed bathrooms were very good. The rooms are a good size with plenty of storage for your clothes. One side of the hotel overlooks the pool, which is just about adequate for the size of the hotel. If you’re on this side, or to the rear of the hotel, then it is fairly quiet, but if you’re on one of the other two sides, it can be a little noisy up to about 1am, so take your earplugs. The roof top restaurant gives a good panoramic view over Sunny Beach, and Nesebar, but I cannot recommend the food, not even the breakfast. The reception staff are very good at their job and very friendly and helpful as are the staff in the bars and the chambermaids. The staff in the roof top restaurant are not so friendly or helpful. The hotel is in the southern part of Sunny Beach and about a 10 min walk from the beach, and has a number of very good restaurants all within 200yds. The corner pub, which is also part of the Meridian complex, is very good and cheap.
Grand Hotel?? Just by the highness
Have been there 2 weeks from Aug. 24th. If you are nice and learn 2 or 3 words Bulgarian, all the staff is nice and friendly to you. Otherwise they are shy which seems for the average person as unfriendly but it isnt. The prob is the elevator. We got trapped in there many times. The food was ok but nothing real special. Some was good some was not so good. But every person has his/her own taste, so it would not be fair to say it was bad in all. In this Hotel the food was mainly british (which seems to be a problem for some german Tourists) but on other Hotels it may be to german, so be tolerant. An other big prob was the dining room. You could not talk to your friends at the table, cause 2 musicians made such a terrible noise you could not understand one word. And every evening the same songs. Boring and disturbing. The rest was ok for a good beach vacation. The Hotel was very close at the beach. The rooms are ok, good size. Aircondition could set as you like it, and it was working well and not to loud. The rooms was cleaned every day with new towels. But as all over the world, it's better to give a tip at the beginning, so we had it very good every day. Our request on the front desk about the bad elevator was heard, but I guess nothing was done, cause the problem never ends. All in all, I would not go to Sunny Beach again, cause the Music problem is on every single place in the entire City, you cannot escape frome the noise.
