Dec 2009, joey123

the holiday was amazing but we had a 3 hour delay out of gatwick and a 30 hour delay back :( but apart from that it was the best holiday ever and hoping to go back, the food was good and i love the sun and the beach the hotel room was good and the flight was good after the delay, i went for xmas and it was the best time to go nice and warm but this hotel is really only for families :) the people are amazing and always there to help you and the cabin crew were go aswel i am planning to go back in xmas 2010 with first choice, and the only thing I HOPE THE FLIGHT IS ON TIME! everytime i fly with first choice there is an delay and when i went with thomas cook to punta cana there were no delay, so i hope this the plane is on time :)

i went to the dominican republic for my mums wedding and had the BEST time of my life. there was 14 of us that went on this trip and as you can guess my mum and dad were very worried, but from the moment we landed it was briliant. i remeber getting to the resort and seeing everyong out the front welcoming us. it was awwsomeeeee :) honestly they were dancing and getting people to join in while giving out drinks. we went to out room and were very impressed! i shared a room with my 3 sisters and had more that enough romm and even had a tv with mini bar!!!! the hoilday was getting better and better by the minute. there was 2 pools, good size. good choice of where and what to eat! and the evening entertainment was soo funny getting everyone involed. by this i mean the choco latte :) they staff were friendly and hung around with us in the daytime keeping us entertain and really made us feel special. while there went went on 3 trips and did many water sports on the beach. defo recomend :) it got closer to the wedding yet still my mum and dad wasnt worried and were kept updated. before the big day there was a storm but had cleared up on the day. it was soo relaxed, before we all were just sat at the bar then went off to get ready and get the flowers. a horse and carriage picked us up. th whole wedding was perfect and soo emotional. i made really good friend with the staff and had water fight and they even looked after us in the club.
i didnt think they was really much for my age group (14-17) but it is what you make it.
as i said before best holiday of my life and im coming back next year. doesnt matter what type of holiday your looking for, your have a great time know matter what.
Go for your life you'll love it =)

HORRIBLE HOLIDAY
1 / 10
Nov 2009, REINA32

I took my family to this resort it was the worst experience EVER I have 2 children they did not like it. The staff was UNPROFESSIONAL specially the front desk staff is very rude I booked my room into the 28 of july and they kick me out of the room on the 27 they said my reservation was into the 27 I SHOW THE FRONT DESK GUY PROVED OF MY RESERVATION HE DID NOT CARE. They make me and my other family menbers go all of us into one room cause some one else was cheking in my room that day I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH THE SUPERVISOR AND HE WOULDN'T COME OUT TO SPEAK TO ME. I have been in the Dominican Republic many times and this is the first bad experience ever. The water smell horrible from the bathroom the food is bad and the worse is the FRONT DESK STAFF THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING THEY MAKE A BIG MISTAKE AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO SOLVED THE PROBLEM.

Read mixed reviews about this holiday but extremely disappointed. had sickness and dioreah throughout hols. Food was cold and hygiene appauling in restaurants. bar area smelt of sick. sons trainers stolen from room. The food often cold certainly not 24 hrs. Even when raised issues about food not acknowledged. Someone unwell in bar/restaurant area and area not clean and people then sat in seats and at table. hard to get served at bar and entertainment repetative. we are not fuzzy people and have been on cheap holidays with no complaints but could not leave resort except 2 days due to being unwell. lots of other also unwell.

Greaat Holiday Resort
10 / 10
Aug 2009, beckirules

Ok so we went here as a group of 11! before we went we had read a lot of bad reviews about the actual resort. This is a great place to stay it is a great area in the dominican. When you first arrive at the resort you have all the interaction team there to greet you and give you light refreshments before you get taken to your room. When you arrive at your room you will find that the maid has been in a sorted all the beds and towels out for you. For the first couple of days it is best to stay around the pool so you can get used to the weather (i would advise to go around the activities pool as there is activities for children and adults all day round.) I would advise that some days you take trips out of the resort the Outback Safari is a must you go around the countryside for the day and see how most people live and all of the wildlife they have in the dominican, another one i suggest you do is the off-roading adventure and the horse riding adventure these both take you up the mountain. The food in the buffet resteraunt is simple but changes every night and there is always something that anybody can eat (just be careful with the seafood) the a la carte restraunts are lovely the mexican doesnt have much choice but the chinese and the italian resteraunt are a definite must so book them when you arrive so you dont miss your chance. Overall i would say that this resort is good if you have a family or a big group of people like we had! I hope you enjoy your stay here as much as we did. (The becahes are lovely.) :)

Amazing Holiday ! Did n't wanna leave
9 / 10
Aug 2009, RubyAlicex

it is my second time to dominican republic and the Holiday village golden beach is the best hotel i have ever been too.
Food- The food is really nice and have a wide range or different food to try, with themed nights. They also have resturants: oriental, italian and mexican. The mexican was my favorite as the staff there are so friendly and entertaining, not forgetting the food is amazing.
Pools- there are loads off different pools to choose from, the main pool situated near the main stage, which has a lazy river. an adult pool and a wave pool which is the only one in domincan republic, also 2 slides which children and adults can go on !
entertainment- The entertainment team are AMAZING ! they put so much time and effort into the things they do. there so friendly and easy to get on with. The entertainment team put on alot of things such as talent compertitions at night, dance shows, and also bring in other acts such as domincan dancers singers and also had a micheal jackson tribute. The entertainment is not JUST on an evening but runs all day. They have games of basketball, volleyball on the beach and watersports you can talk part in also highropes and archerie. The kids also have alot of activities to do such as water sports and a waterball, swimming lessons, razzmataz and kids club. Also at night they have quiz's and adult disco and entertainment in the aquanox lounge after 11.
Staff- This is the one thing im really missing and thats the staff :( they are the nicest people i have ever met and they make sure you have an amazing time from the start or the holiday till the end. they just pack the holiday with alsorts to do.
beach- the beach is georgous :) with lovely golden sand and clear blue sea with coral reefs which is ideal for snorkeling. theres also activities to do on the beach such as bananna boat, jet ski, parasailing and cannoing. the only let down is that you have to pay for it and also the sales people on the beach. as soon as you step on the beach you get hastled by them! but aslong and you say no they should be ok with you.but dont get me wrong they are nice people if you get to know them.
Rooms- the rooms are ok... we stayed in a interconecting room which is 2 rooms and my family is 5 people. our room is quiet old as it was there when it was another hotel. but one of the toilets blocked every day just by putting toilet roll down it and there were ants.we told the reception and they fixed it straight away every day.
There was not much for us teenagers, the wavelength was full of young kids and the only place we really hung out was the pool tables. also there was a band that plays there .. not gonna say there name but they were 2 residents and they were REALLY BAD but were very funny :D
also while i was on holiday me and some of my family and other guests got diarrhea, but thats just getting used to the food it is not food poisening.
overall i had an amazing time and definatley wanna come back to the holiday village :D

best ever holiday
10 / 10
Jul 2009, chenery (goff)

Just got back, had the best ever time. How people can run this Holiday Village down i don't know. The food was lovely, loads of different choices everyday. The staff at the hotel were very kind and helpful, the entertainment staff work so hard trying to keep everyone entertained and they do a great job about it. I read some reviews before we went and was very worried about what sort of holiday we were going to have, but i can honestly say it was a holiday of a life time.
We went on two trips Ocean world and Outback Safari, if you don't do anything else make sure you go on these two trips, they were the best. Ocean world we swam with the Dolphins and Sharks and it was a life time experience. The Outback trip was the best, Kenny our tour guide was so entertaining, he had our children in stiches all day, We swam in a lovely clear river and went to a typical Dominican Home and School, then we had a lovely lunch and was taken to a private beach to boogie board, best ever time was had by all.
We went on holiday with my Sister her husband and 11 year old boy, our son is 13, they have never been interested in kids clubs when we have been on holiday other times, we couldn't keep them away, they did everying from building rafts to jumping of the high ropes (all free).
Please don't let other review put you of, if i had read them before i booked i think i would have booked some where else, so glad i didn't. We have had bad holidays in the past and i have never wanted to past comment about them on these review guides but felt i had to give my honest opinions on this holiday.
Also just a quick note to say there was 6 of us in all and none of us was ill with bad stomaches and the room were lovely.

ok well the food was crap. ants crawling all over the food and birds eating the cold selection. the itialian is best reatraunt.
the frist day we found that there was mites under the wood and we had an ant infestiotian.
great for kids. the cleaning staff were rubbish and the local staff were so moody their badges say 'please tell me if im not smiling' well you would go round everyday saying 'your not smiling' one day we chose to go to the plaza and got nothing but hasseld! come to that on the actual rezort you just got hasseld.
give first choice their due they were great and so were the entertainment staff.
i wouls not recomend this holiday.

Amazing holiday

First ever trip to the Dominican republic , and it was a great first time experience. Great weather , great people , great hotel! Immediately coming off the coach you are greeted by the best ever holiday entertainment group, singing and dancing to the famous "chocolate" (brilliant). Every day and night there is something for everyone. Kids clubs run smoothly , nightly entertainment is best in the business and the beach for the tanners. Only possible down point is the food although do not get put off by this! Highly recomended!

don't go unless you have kids

i would have to agree with quite a few of the revies here regarding the entertainment. if you don't have kids then stay away from this place. we were also there duing the notorious columbian beach party and didn't get any sleep for those 2 nights, in all fairness to the hotel the manager went next door to get them to turn the noise down and eventually he contacted the tourist police who shut them down. the only downsides to this hotel were the food in the buffet restaurant (not much choice on some evenings) and the entertainment. we were told that the first hour of the evening entertainment was aimed at the kids and that from 8.30 it would be on a par with a club in the UK. this was absolute BS. the kids shows started at 7.30 and fnished at 11.00 then the "adult" entertainment ran from 11.15 until midnight, a whopping 45 minutes. also the "club level" entertainers were only on one night per week and the rest of the time it was the kids reps trying to sing.i say trying because some of them were dire. it was like the nutters from the x-factor auditions at times. one girl singer was probably the worst singer i've heard in my life. but as the rest of the reps were acting as a mutual appreciation society she probably thinks she's good.
the hotel itself was great. the staff were brilliant and very friendly. the food was OK providing you could find something you liked. the barstaff were the best i've ever seen and once they got to know what you drank then they'd have a refill for you before you'd finished the one you had. royal suites were excellent and was a respite from the constant reps trying to get you to play in the pool.
from next year this will no longer be a holiday village (along with the one in mexico) and this should make it a much better place for couples to visit because the entertainment staff should then be much more professional.

family holiday
8 / 10
Jul 2009, holiday express

ok, just back from our summer holiday to the Golden beach and here is exactly what we as a family thought:-
Entertainment - brilliant all day if you want and evening - if you want to join in fine, if not that is not a problem.
Children - the children had a great holiday, did a couple of visits to kids clubs, but made so many friends, that they all took part in some activities, and just had fun from start to finish of holiday.
Food (all inclusive) ok everyone no matter where you go after 14 days all you want is some home cooking so here is no different. on the whole a good choice and if you have done all inlusive before, you will probably agree that this hotel the food is generally quite good and with very good (mexican, italian, and chinese) restaraunts to break up the buffet. While we were there we saw inspectors in checking hygene, so hopefully that should be good news.
Staff - excellant, very friendly and helpful, and i would say if you are nice to them, they will be nice to you.
Accomodation - Clean, and family accomodation has plenty of room, with two bathrooms. Clean sheets every 3 days, and mini bar re stocked every day.
1st Choice Staff (and all entertainment team) Excellant. They were excellant, they all work very hard and provide brilliant fun for everyone kids and adults, it all kicks off in the evening with "the ministry of fun" Flash, jovaltine, Sarah Sparkle, special K, jazzy, betty Boo, DJ Rix and the rest of the team, put together a brilliant, polished evening of entertainment and fun.
Football academy - Natalie the coach is great the girls and boys, and even in that heat, they all had a great time on the pitch.
Swimming Lessons - great while on holiday, your kids can learn to swim or become a "life guard"
This is just our thoughts, but hopefully fair ones, and go with an open mind if you want a family holiday, that is stress free, but plenty for the kids to keep busy. Dont go if you are looking for a holiday away from kids.
oh and yes most of the people had a dodgy tummy at one point, but we all just got on with it and probably now worse than you would get anywhere else.
ps...for those people who think that the royal suites would be good cos no kids, dont forget you still have to eat in the same restaraunts as everyone else, its just breakfast in the royal suites!!!!!
