This is the second consecutive year we have been to the golden beach and have booked to go back again in 2009 because we LLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEE it soooooo much. i know other people have said that the in2action staff were lazy but my children would not come away from kidz club and wave length because the in2action members could not do enough for them. so much so that my 12 year old daughter wants to become one once she is 18 and is counting the days untll her eighteenth. She would like me to mention their names because they were so fab: Kate Harris
Kate Hewson
Sam
kimberly greves
Holly
kayleigh
Nicola Cruishank
Jamie
Luke
trevor
and Tom
Thank you to all of you
obviously some british people think all inclusine means burgers and chips all day but if the fat people who expect that get up off their buts and walk down the path to the beach they might actually find all the caribbean they could possibly want is there.

We were quite nervous about going on this holiday, especially when even the travel agent that sold it 2 us seemed very cagey about how he was wording things, but we wanted somewhere a bit special 4 our honeymoon so we took a chance & i must say i'm glad we did.
The flight & transfer times were excellent, & the express check out on the last day was a godsend, no guarding ur bags 4 the day as they take ur luggage & the next time u c it is when u r home, although there r a few visa forms u need 2 fill out when leaving which is a pain, this is something they could get u 2 do beforehand 2 save time, think 100 or more people & no pens!!
The rooms were a good size, cleaned everyday with a free minibar that was restocked everyday with pepsi, seven up, beers & bottled water which i reccommend u use 2 brush ur teeth (keep ur mouth closed in the shower as the water WILL make u ill). The rooms could do with modernising as the furniture is very dark & a bit gothic, & there was a really weird smell on the top pillows which don't get changed. Also b wary of the cots, we had our daughter in our bed in the end as she fell through the bottom 3 times!!!
The a'la carte restuarants were decorated beautifully & the service fantastic, the food wasn't as good as expected tho & if ur a fussy eater or prefer plain food like my husband then u mite not b impressed, the mexican food was lovely tho. The buffet food at breakfast was good, fresh eggs (omlettes, fried, scrambled etc), pancakes & french toast cooked 2 order, along with anything else u would want on the self service bays. Ithe day time the buffet was excellent with burgers, hot dogs & chicken cooked on the grill fresh everyday, along with salad, friut, bread, main meals & deserts (although if ur a desert lover u won't b impressed, colourful but very bland, ice cream everyday tho which is nice). Evening buffet had different themes every nite, some better than others, sauces on most things which as said my husband likes plain food so wasn't as much choice 4 him although there's always chips, pasta etc. The mexican, pollside bar & beach restuarant also serve food throughout the day so there's lots of choice.
The wavepool was our favourite especially 4 the kids, although if u prefer 2 get involved in quizzes, games etc the main pool is 4 u. The beach is nice with lifeguards keeping watch & the non moterised water sports r all free. There is a flea market at the end of the beach, if u don't like being hassled then i would avoid it. U can get some good deals but 2 b honest every shop has exactly the same stuff in it with literally 1 or 2 exceptions maybe, & the sellers r VERY persistent, u can feel very pressured into buying things, & if u say u have no money they try 2 give it 2 u anyway saying u can pay them later!! I myself love browsing around little shops & buying useless items & souvenirs etc but this really put me off & once we managed 2 get away, did not go bk!! They have a little market in the hotel selling the same stuff a couple of times a wk, same stuff, bit more pricy tho, & still a bit hassling but not as bad.
The entertainment at nite was great 4 kids but a bit rubbish 4 adults, some of the shows were really good but all in all could do with bein alot better.
Staff were excellent, very friendly & hard working. Definately do the outback safari as was excellent, also ocean world, bit pricy but well worth it. We also put our daughter into creche & did horse riding, had a great time but definately wouldn't recommend 4 kids, lots of horses very close 2gether!!
All in all despite some moans we had a fantastic holiday, wouldn't rush bk as once u've been there & done it there's not alot different u could do a second time round, but definately worth going.

I WAS WORRIED AFTER READING THE REVIEWS ABOUT THIS PLACE ON HERE. BUT DONT WORRIE IT WAS THE BEST HOLIDAY I HAVE EVER BEEN ON.
WE STAYED IN THE ROYAL SUITES. THIS IS FANTASTIC YOU HAVE A YOUR OWN VIP CLUB HOUSE WHITCH ONLY PEOPLE STAYING IN THE ROYAL SUITES CAN USE (THERE ARE ONLY ABOUT 20 ROOMS IN THIS AREA).
THE BREAKFAST IN HERE IS THE BEST COOKED FOR U UNLIKE THE BUFFET (ALL SO GREAT FOOD)
THE POOL AREA IS VERY QUITE IN THE VIP AREA THE BAR STAFF ARE GREAT HERE VERY FRIENDLY. THE OTHER POOLS ARE GOOD FUN. THE ACTIVITIES POOL IS THE PLACE TO BE FOR ALL THE GAMES ALL DAY A LOT OF FUN.
THERE ARE 4 A LA CARTE RESTAURANTS ON SITE BOOK THESE EARLY AS THEY GET FULL UP QUICK BUT MAKE SURE YOU TRY THEM ALL, WE THINK THE MEXICAN WAS THE BEST.
THE NIGHT ENTERTAINMENT WAS FAB, A LOT OF IT WAS DANCING AND SING BUT VERY GOOD SHOW, THE E3 STAFF WORK VERY HARD TO ENTERTAIN YOU AND THEY DO A GREAT KINDS SHOW AT 7.30PM SO DONT MISS IT OR THE LITTLE ONES WILL MISS FIREMAN SAM OR BOB THE BUILDER.
THE BEACH IS LOVELY BUT WATCH OUT FOR THE BEACH STALLS THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF IF YOU DONT HAGGLE TO A VERY LOW PRICE.
TO SUM UP GREAT PLACE TO GO WITH KIDS OR AS A COUPLE. I HOPE I WILL BE GOING AGAIN VERY SOON.
AND DONT WORRIE ITS FANTASTIC SUNNY AND VERY HOT
HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY
I was really worried about going...

I was really worried about going here having booked and then read the reviews on here! My rating is only a 5 but this is due to it not being suited to our needs rather than anything particularly wrong. This was our honeymoon, we chose to book with the holiday village for its facilities for our 2 year old but it was no where near 'special' enough for the occasion.
Our accommodation was apparently one of the better rooms, no smells or dirt. Although not very luxurious or particulalry comfortable it did what it had to do! We had a family room, so my daughter could have her own space and her own tv - this was just a partitioned off area but she was happy with it (not sure it was worth the upgrade cost though). We had a central location which was good for the park/wave pool/restaurants & creche but terrible in the night when you are trying to get a 2 yr old to sleep and the 'entertainment' is blaring until the small hours!
Food.. The restaurants are well worth booking upon arrival - we enjoyed these, although disappointed that the dress codes weren't stuck to. We thought this would be the one bit of poshness about the holiday - it wasn't as the majority came in in their beachwear. The buffet restaurant was nowhere near as bad as some of the reviews state although you do get a bit bored of the food after 2 weeks and l have to admit for whatever reason all 3 of us were ill on this holiday from the food at some point, although only minor stomach upsets. My criticism is that the Golden Beach advertises 24/7 all inclusive - but snacks are limited and you have to find where its being served at what time (outside of the usual meal times). There are no snacky foods like crisps, nibbles, etc that we came across -hence utilising the on-site shop. There are a few birds in the buffet restaurant but l didn't see these anywhere near the food areas - the just like to sit on the vacant tables!
Everything was clean and safe - security was excellent. The trip to Ocean world was expensive but worth it. The trip to Paradise island was expensive and a real low point to the holiday - don't do this trip unless you enjoy 4hours on a bus and 2+ hours on boats... Not a good day...
We favoured the wave pool as the Activities pool was where the 'butlins' activities take place. Its very slippery but after the first few slips, trips and falls the little ones get used to it - not sure about the grown ups! Creche staff were fab and very accommodating although what First Choice sell in the Uk isn't what is offer in resort. We pre-booked 9 day session and 5 x 3hr evening sessions - in resort they class an evening session as 2 hrs - therefore had to double up session to go to the adult only restaurant.
Service is good - although there is no concept of queues or waiting in turn - its every man for himself!!
My reason for the 5/10 rating is that we thought this would be 4* Carribean luxury holiday - after all it cost us a lot of money. What we actually got was butlins in Dominican Republic and other than the trips/locals on beach you wouldn't actually know where you were. As l said at the beginning it wasn't special enough for us.. It suits families who want the entertainment and activity holidays. It does cater for toddlers but certainly didn't suit them as much as the older children - but at least we didn't have to stress about her being too loud!
We were more than pleased to...

We were more than pleased to return from Butlins this year, I felt that this resort was well built for families with young children, however despite being billed as suitable for teenagers I found that the 'wavelength' club 8-16? was attended mainly by 8 year olds which for a muture 14 year old, was not where I wanted to be. I certainly cannot fault the tennis facilities, however i cannot see why there is a football pitch, not in use, it would seem and i would have liked to have gone and had a kick about whcih definately would have made my stay more enjoyable. which leads me on to say that, I felt a lack of freedom, everything was scheduled, ruled and scripted which meant that you couldn't do what you wanted when you wanted (isn't the idea of an all-inclusive that you can?). I do see some irony baring in mind that when I visited cuba last year i was able to do that, ironic when you consider the nation's strict rulings and lack of freedom !!!. I cannot fault the entertainment team(however some variation in the pre-show event wouldn't do any harm), nor can I fault the dominican staff working hard to keep the resort in working order, perhaps leting them run the place would help provide a more-tasteful and less butlinsesque atmosphere, which would help remind you that your in the carribean. Given that only the weather would remind you of where you actually are. So I feel the resort could be improved by kicking out the lazy 'in 2 action' staff (who it seemed spent the whole time mucking about, meaning no peace for people sitting around the inadaquitly sized pool. So though i enjoyed making friends with other kids (by the pool, not at the wavelength club) I shall look back on tthis holiday with relative disapointment, given the fact that i had looked forward to returning to the caribbean after my fantastic time in cuba last year. (grand caribe puntarena, i recommend it!)

Before I went on this holiday I was so worried...I had read so many mixed reviews and didn't know what to expect.
I later found out when i got there that after two weeks there was absolutly nothing to be worried about. There was so much to do for kids such as the high ropes and two different pools including slides and a wave machine.
The beach was absolutly amazing and very relaxing and there were so many activities including activitied vollyball, kayaking, bannana boating and dingy riding.
There are so many different restaurants to choose from and each one serves abousolutly amazing food. The buffet is great and includes most of the food you can think of as there was so much to choose from.
The evening entertainment was great too, the entertainers were always very welcoming and tried to include as many people as they could to get up on stage. The entertainment started at 6 and finished at aroun11:30.
There is also a plaza very near by which you can catch a horese and carrage to which is a very enjoyable ride and only takes around 4 minutes.
The only thing that would let the resort down would be the rooms. We had a few blockages in the toilet and the rooms were very dull and simple.
I would definatly recommend this holiday to familys as there is so much to do and is great for the children. We didn't suffer any illnesses and enjoyed oursefs thouroughly!

Just returned from our 1st holiday abroad, a family of 4 for 2 weeks, we stayed at golden beach playa dorada.
We had a fantastic time, nothing was ever too much trouble, the Dominicans work very hard and long hours, but always smiling.
Our accomodation was basic but clean and great air - con.
Mozzies will become your friend very quickly so try anything to deter them.. Also when browsing shops you will be hassled with special prices, just say NO and we found if you pay in peso's you will get better deal.. barter the price down don't give in..
The food was presented very well but it can get a little repetative by the second week, occasionally a bird could get into the restaurant pecking at the fruit which was a little off putting.
The staff were very polite and helpful.
We travelled with First Choice and every aspect of our journey was very straight forward.
We booked up various excursions within the resort which was easy, we recommend this as everywhere you go you are pestered by tour operators and many may not be fully insured etc.
Our favourites were Ocean World ( very reasonably priced including, the cost of food and gift shop).
Highly recommend Freestyle catamaran trip including all food and drink plus snorkelling, this was a great day.
But our favourite was the Outback jungle safari, absolutely amazing in ever word. A must do and take some school supplies for which you will visit a small school, these kids have nothing, a real eye opener in every sense..this trip includes boogie boarding at a fantastic secluded beach ..GREAT GUIDES AND A GREAT DAY..
The entertainment was very good most of the time.
We would love to return as there is so much more to do and see and the 3 trips we did do, we would do again.
You will enjoy this country
Happy Holidays

Having read mixed reviews about this hotel and quite honestly being alarmed at some of the comments and reassured by others we decided before our trip to keep an open mind. We are a family of 4, with two girls aged 13 and 10.
Rooms: Familes that have not requested a family room will either allocated a room with two double beds or one with a double bed and a sofa bed. On arriving we were given the latter which wasn't what we had specified. We requested a room change, which we were given after an upgrade fee of £105 was handed over !. The rooms with the 2 double beds looked better than the ones with the sofa beds. We heard of no problems, nor experienced any issues with property going missing. and our maid did a really good job of keeping the room clean as with 3 women sharing one wardrobe you can imagine the clutter ! Air cond was great, fridge filled everyday with pepsi, 7up, water and beer.Beds comfy, clean, extra pillows were available,. fresh towels every day.
Entertainment. We found the daytime and evening entertainment really good, but we as a Family did try to involve ourselves as much as possible. My Husband is very sporty where I am not, so am usually reluctant, if not sometimes a bit uneasy at putting myself forward for the sports and family events like cricket, water polo, and beach olympic events, but I must say as a very unfit 30 something was encourage and never once made to feel rubbish ( although I'm sure I was ! ) I enjoyed very much taking part and the staff were great. I'd recommend that you have a go as this side of the holiday was well worth getting involved in. I'd read reviews about a Butlins type environment, rubbish! it's great fun and we all loved it.. There wasn't the Holiday camp feel about the Village as you only get involved if you want to. This resort is really for families and is set up to accomdate this.
Food: We found the main buffet good, varied, fresh ,well cooked and usually themed, ie BBQ night, the oriental not to our taste, The Italian as good as any at home and we didn't visit the mexican or the adult only beach side resturant. The staff were friendly and responded well to us and the kids. The main eating area is called the topaz and although the food and staff are good, they have a problems with Birds flying about, and on occasions landing in the trays of food, in particular the fruit, which we therefore avoided. The birds nest in the thatched roofing so i guess are hard to control try as the staff may. It is still annoying having them around when you are tring to eat.
We have travelled all over the world, usually self catering and have always said that we enjoyed the tourist, exploring non-beach side of a holiday, but actually found that this type of organised activity holiday was really good and felt that we got good value for money. We met some really nice people, eat loads, drunk too much Rum and generally had a good time.
If your reading this don't worry, the locals we spoke to said that the resort is one of the best on the complex and it is certainly for families.

The setting this village is in is very well maintained and feels very safe. The kids club is very good (especially the 8.30-10.30pm club), so you have a chance to have a bit of adult time, the only downside with the club is that it is published ages 3-5 and another for ages 6-8 but the majority of the time the club was mixed for 3-8 year olds, my children are 6 and 8 and I have to say my 8 year old did not like sitting there singing nursery rhymes!!!!
The main buffet restaurant was very nice, but I found the food very repetitive and then it became boring after two weeks of the same food. However, there are four restaurants on the site as well Italian, Mexican, Japanese and a Caribbean (adults only) restaurant on the beach - book all these early so as not to be disappointed as they do get fully booked, and are very nice.
The First choice reps we found were 'jobs worth’s’; if your query is simple they would deal with it, anything that meant them working for their money did not get sorted.
The entertainment team were very good, always smiling and great with the children.
The wave pool is great fun but very slippery so be aware with little ones - don't let them run!!! The activity pool was a bit small and they did not really do many activities - maybe 2 or 3 a day.
In one review I read it said that this resort was very much like Butlins abroad and I would agree with that, which has its good and bad points.
The accommodation for me was a bit of a let down. We had a kids den and it was a very dark room that I felt was in need of an update as the furniture was dated which made the place feel dirty. It did however have good air conditioning the fridge was filled with all inclusive drink everyday and there is a free safety deposit box which I recommend you use, as we heard of a couple of people who had jewellery etc stolen by the house maid, I cannot complain about our maid though, I tipped her on about the third day we were there and she was very attentive and friendly for the rest of our stay.
The bar area did not have enough staff really and quite often there were queues for drinks, the bar needed a good wipe down and the tables you sat at in the evening never got wiped so they were quite often dripping by the end of the night.
The evening entertainment was OK, it was watchable most the time, I would say most the time about 6-7 out of 10.
The welcome meeting was rubbish and did not let you know about half the trips, so make sure you ask, we went on a paradise island trip which was a great experience and I highly recommend it, but my children did get a bit fed up by the end of it so maybe best if you can do it adult only, we also swam with the dolphins at ocean world, this is a great day out for the children, however please be aware that you get ripped off with the price of photos so if possible have a family member or friend take your own video or photos should you do an encounter. Also at ocean world if anybody comes up to you and says you are entitled to a 15 minute tour, don't go - they take you off to a Vacation club - time share!!!!
All in all golden beach holiday village is very nice but definitely not 4 star - I would say it is more 3 stars.

This was by far the worse holiday I have ever been on, spent 4 days in hospital due to food poisioning 3 days after arriving!! I have never in all my life been so ill, the food was under cooked, the hydgene was poor and in all honesty I would proberbly rate this hotel as a 2*, however since our holiday I notice that the hotel has been down graded from a 4* to a 3*.
Spending time in hospital in the dom rep was a terrifying experiance, no one there could speak a word of english, and the staff in the hotel were very little help!
I enjoyed the first 2 days, then spent the rest in hospital and in my hotel bed, I've been on holidays all over the world and have never experianced anything like it!!!
*In my view!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!!!!!

after reading the comments about this holiday I was worried about what I was should expect. I went on this holiday with my husband and two children aged 8 and 3. We had a lovely time. The weather was great. The rooms were a bit dated and could do with modernising but having said this the room was always kept clean by the staff, the air con was great and kept the room nice and cool all day and night. The staff at the hotel work very hard to keep it very clean and go out there way to help you. The wave pool floor is very slippy and small children do need to take care. We went on two trips. One to Ocean world to swim with the Dolphins and the other on the outback safari. Both were well worth the money. Last year we went to Holiday Village in Turkey and this was much more modern, having said this I would definately go back to Dominican Hoiday Village at some point. Please don't let the reviews put you off we really did have a great holiday.

This the best holiday we have been on. We have a little girl who is 1 and she throughly enjoyed herself. The staff were fantastic, they couldnt do enough for you. The rooms were cleaned daily, clean towels were put in every day and clean bedding, they were air conditioned and it worked great, a fridge, hair dryer and safe was provided. No need 2 take beach towels as they were provided everyday 2. There were activities during the day and the night for all ages, including poker, cards, water polo, swimming lessons for kids, darts, pool etc. At night there was a kids hour where there were games and dancing, then there were games for the whole family to enjoy and have a laugh with a fun game of bingo. Then there was an excellent show that followed, there was a micheal jackson tribute, a magician, grease night, it was fantastic. The beaches were beautiful. The food was great, we tried all the restraunts and we gave them all a 10. We attended the safari trip and this was great 2, the guide was a real charater and got every one involved. The pools were costantly being cleaned throughout the day. I cannot praise this holiday enoughWe had a fantastic times and we will be going back!

just returned back from a two week holiday ,Hotel was fine, fridge in room not very cold, airconditioning in room was excellent, very cold. The weather was brilliant very very hot, took a while to get used to the humidity, evenings were very hot an sticky.Beach was beautiful, but got very windy in the afternoons. We were all hit with a bout of tummy trouble, tummy cramps and diahorea, which i never suffer with. The kids thought the holiday village was brilliant and made lots of friends. My daughter an myself were dissapointed to find our hairdryer and straightners would not work at all,you can buy a transformer to use ,but this not work with ours. The hairdryer in hotel was not very good only blew out slow cool air.All the staff spoke english.Went to ocean world trip, which was expensive but money well spent, the children swam with dolphins which was excellent.Lots of day trips to choose from, but they are expensive.Food was good, had a good choice every day, except the children stuck to chips an chicken nuggets every day.The drinks were all very very sweet, even the friut juice, the water was fine but im not sure if that what gave us bad tummys,as every time we drank it we were bad.I would definatly reccomend this hotel to anyone with a family considering going to the caribean.

overall this was a good holiday. The quality of the rooms let this place down. We were moved rooms three times during the holiday due to flooding - to be told this was an ongoing problem with all the number 1 rooms. After the last time we were upgraded to a family room which was lovely - however three wasted nights on holiday doesnt compensate for this. The food was great - for a while then a bit repetitive and boring but tasted good. The restraunts were gr8 - loved the japanese one the best. My daughter had swimming lessons with vicky - she was lovely and really brought her on and as very chuffed with a wee cirtificate she recieved at the disco for this. I would reccomend this holiday to people with young families- kids club and little discos gr8 fun for them. On our last night i had a drink thrown over me by a young couple who were arguing and it went the wrong way - not good in whats ment to be a "family" holiday, shouln't be aimed at young couples who just want to drink and have a laugh - understandable on holiday but not whilst my 3 year old daughter is sitting there .I am putting an official complaint in to 1st choice for my troubled holiday as the accomodation was not worth the amount i paid for this holiday - if it was a cheap deal i could understand however this was not by any means. I would say the accomodation was a 3* however the rest of the holiday was 4*.
would also recommend the safari trip - excellent day out - book with the skinny man at the beach much cheaper than at the hotel for the same trip!

Hi guys, i have recently been to this resort with my partner.
I came on here and read all the comments and after i did i was worrying a bit havig read a mixed reply of comments.
If you are worrying this may help you calm yourself a bit.
The flight is a little long but there is plenty of stuff for you to do on the plane to keep yourselves entertained with the games and films etc. it took 15 mins to get here on the coach so no falling asleep after the very hot sunshine hits you. on arrival at the resort it took maybe ten minutes to check in and get into the rooms.
This is a very well placed resort and everything in it is perfectly situated. the food is great in the buffet bit and the on site restaurants. Try and visit all of them.
There is so much to tell you so i dont want to spoil it for you.
The staff work very hard to settle you in and believe me it is not difficult to do here in near paradise.
OK you need to know about the entertainment staff. these guys are all great and actually made our holiday for us. they are there for you so dont sit back in the wings get involved and make it a little easier for them. we are so jeallous of everyone visiting this place we are even contemplating going back in september.
I would just like to say thank you to everyone for making our holiday a great one especially Tom, Chocolate, Johnathon and Juan. can you please say hi to all these from Iain and Dawn when you are having the best holiday you will ever go on thank you again
