Grand Marina Beach Hotel

Just got back from this holiday and would like to share my views.
I don't want this to been seen as negative because the hotel and resort are great however before you go i would like to make you aware of the following.
Just to explain before i begin i went with my wife and 8 year old son we are both in our 40's and my son is like a hurricane when awake. I'm lucky enough in my job to stay in very decent hotels all over the world hence the possible negative undertone of this review.
Good points 1st:
The resort is very clean and there are plenty of shops and bars without getting to much hassle and the approaches you get are very friendly and not aggressive.
The hotel is very clean and has a decent selection of food. Facilities are all ok except the gym which is very lacking in quanity and quality of equipment. Pools are all great and views from all even number rooms are of the sea. Rooms are kept very clean and all staff are friendly and do try to help as much as possible.
Plenty of things to do and the walk along the front is smashing if you walk all the way to the harbour be careful as there is a small area of the beach which allows nudist bathing. Which is fun but when you have an 8 yr old the questions can be loud and awkward. The best crazy golf i have ever seen is down there along with a very good quad bike track and when i took my boy on there the guy ran round with him for the whole of his go making sure he was safe. He must have been knackered but it was greatly appreciated and when we offered him a tip he refused saying it was part of his job that he enjoyed.
Shopping has very nice fakes but they can be expensive as they try to pass them off as originals.
We saw lots of reports about ladies of the night and beggers however we only saw 1 begger whose legs were so badly deformed i bet any one who meets him gives him money. There are lots of exotic establishments however if you are with your family they keep there distance. However be careful if your not as i spoke to a few guys who had gone out on there own for a quick errand i.e by water or chocolate and been hounded by the girls one even going through one chaps pockets to see if he had enough money to buy her for a couple of hours.
The Bad bits
The entertainment in the hotel was nil and the only entertainment in the evening around the resort was either Karaoke. Or a dodgy keyboard player with a Bulgaria lady singer of which we noted at least 10 bars offering this. The other was Euro 2008 football or the lap dancing no good to me with a family in toe.
The food around the resort did not really inspire me to go in and when you order a stake in most places you pay extra for garnish and extra for chips.
Even Mcdonalds is bland compared to home. We did eat lunch which was ok however when we looked to go back in the evening for something a little more substantial the menus were pretty boring and we did this every day in a different one trying to find somewhere to enjoy a meal other than the hotel evening meal which although was well prepared and tasty was becoming a bit repetitive.
That's really the only 2 bad points however they only look minor we have decided not to return even until our lad is older and we could go on our own as we feel that then it would come into it's own as it seems a great place to get drunk and party till you puke. even though we never saw any the groups singing at night would indicate great times in bars being had.
Oh one other thing there is a distinct lack of Brits over there which can be annoying to some even though i wasn't bothered that much it would have been nice to have a few more poeple to talk to other than Germanys, Russians and Bulgarians nice people but you'd think they could speak better English (joke).

WE WENT ON HOLIDAY WITH A 8 YEAR OLD AND 12 MONTH OLD WE WERE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS HOLIDAY WE HAD ORIGINALLY BOOKED TO GO HERE BEFORE BUT I FOUND OUT I WAS EXPECTING AND MY DOCTOR RECOMMENDED I DID NOT GO THERE. WELL I WISH WE HAD NOT RE-BOOKED BECAUSE THE HOTEL IS NOT OF HIGH STANDARD, STAFF ARE RUDE AND UNHELPFUL. THE FOOD IS NOT GOOD WE ARE VERY GOOD AND VARIED EATERS EVEN MY DAUGHTER WE HAVE ALWAYS EATEN LOCAL FOODS WHEN WE ARE AWAY IE WEST INDIES, CARIBBEAN, GREECE, TURKEY, AUSTRIA, FRANCE VARIOUS COUNTIRES BUT WE FOUND THERE WAS HARDLY ANY FOOD WE COULD EAT IN THE HOTEL OTHER THAN THE POOL BAR PIZZAS WE ATE OUT MOST NIGHTS AFTER VISITING RESTAURANT TO SEE WHAT WAS ON BUFFET IT WAS MOSTLY REPEATED. I MUST SAY WE STAYED IN FAMILY ROOM WHICH WAS LARGE WITH SEPARATE BEDROOM WHICH IS ALWAYS USEFUL WITH CHILDREN. IT WAS SCARING OF A NIGHT TO GO OUT SO WE DIDNT STAY OUT LONG. tHE BAR AT TOP OF HOTEL WAS OUR HAVEN WE WOULD SIT UP THERE WITH OTHER ENGLISH AND THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY SOME GAMES WE HAD BROUGHT. ONE NIGHT WE SAW BODYGUARDS IN A RESTAURANT WITH GUNS WHILST A DEAL OVER A MEAL WAS BEING DONE. (A LOT OF RUSSIANS) THEY RUN ALL THE SHOPS AND STALLS AND THE YOUNG GIRLS AND BOYS ARE PAID POORLY. LADIES OF THE NIGHT UP AND DOWN STREETS MY HUSBAND ALWAYS HAD TO PUSH PRAM WHEN WE WENT OUT IN EVENING BECAUSE OTHERWISE HE WAS ASKED IF HE WANTED A GOOD TIME!!! ONLY TIME HE DID PUSH THE PRAM. THERE ARE BETTER HOTELS IN THE AREA IF YOU FANCY GOING.
