great place don't know why it had the bad reviews
from A TripAdvisor Member
My girlfriend and I stayed here in august and the weather was fab. The accommodation is basic but so is every self catering place in greece as a whole. Its clean and tidy the owners are really friendly and call taxis to go places have drinks with you etc. The main road is close by but not that noisy at all. Over the road about a 10-15 min walk are some lovly places to eat right on the water front and in the other direction herrsonisis which is busy if you fancy a night out. The food in the place is good at the snack bar basic but filling and some greek food too which is nice. The only problem we had was that the air cond in out room was broken and they could not move us as they were busy and the engineer was called but never came but we made the most of it. great place to stay and a good holiday all round I would say.
Fantastic
from A TripAdvisor Member
I have to admit that we were a little worried about visiting these apartments due to all of the awful reviews that we had read online, but I have to say that we needn't have worried at all!! We have just returned after two weeks at Petros Village Apartments and we had a fantastic time. The apartments were basic but thats what you expect in Greece, most importantly they were clean and tidy and all of the staff were very friendly and helpful! We didn't have air-conditioning in our apartment but we hired a fan for 10 euros per week which was a god-send as it turned out to be over 40 degrees most days although there was a constant breeze which made it bearable. We visited Hersonissos most evenings but we also went into Malia, Stalis and Heraklion, buses stop every half an hour right outside the main gate of Petros Village, it cost us 1 euro each to go to Hersonissos, 1.70 euros each to go to Heraklion and about the same to go to Malia, the only drawback that we found was that the last bus returns from Hersonissos at 23.15 but a taxi only costs 6 euros regardless of what time you return! It's only a 10 minute walk to the nearest town (Analipsi) which has a lovely beach (6 euros for 2 sunbeds & a parasol for the whole day inc use of toilet/shower etc) there is also a vast selection of tavernas and restaurants in Analipsi but our personal favourite was 'The Poseidon', they cater for all tastes at very reasonable prices, very friendly staff!! If you're looking for a lively night out then Hersonissos is the place to go all the pubs and clubs have a permanent 'Happy Hour' & 'BOGOFF' offers on cocktails etc and once again there are numerous gorgeous restaurants thats overlook the sea and they all cater for everyone!! We also did various excursions including Samaria Gorge (18km trek which is extremely hard work but well worth it) & WaterCity, this is a great place for swimmers and non-swimmers, I personally cannot swim and I still had a fab time! All in all we had a wonderful time and I would recommend Petros Village & Crete in general to anyone regardless of whether you just want to relax or party, party, party!! We would go back tomorrow if we could!! Hope this review helps!

We stayed at Petros Village in September and that was our 4th time over the passed 5 years that we have stayed there and we really enjoyed it. We have tried to book for Petros for next year but Olympic Holiday no longer deal with Petros, does anyone know what tour operator they have gone with!!!!!!
Petros Village - Crete
from shaunm
We have read so many disapointing reviews with regards to Petros Village but we just do not see what the problem's have been. As I understand that previous visits from holiday makers that have stayed at Petros village have said that the accomodation was not up to scratch and the owners of the holiday complex was very unhelpfull and the BBQ's that was supposed to be held never took place. Well we have just got back today 7th September 2005 after staying at Petros Village for 1 week and we had a great time. we had a night flight and arrived at petros village early hours of the morning arriving on the 31st August 2005 and because of the read up's we was not looking forward to it at all but there was nothing that we could have done because the holiday had been booked. any way as I say we arrived early hours wednesday the 31st August at approximately 5.00am, we was shown to our room which to our surprise when we opended the door was appsolutely Fab. we was very surprised we had a look arround the room that we had which was a twin bedded appartment with a dining table and chairs and a dressing table if you required one, a fridge and a well maintained shower the only thing that we found hard was no shower curtain but this is typical Greek style we also had a balcony that looked out to the bar/pool area which was great. the building was well maintained and cleaned on a regular basis by the on site staff/owners as this is a family run business. The building grounds we also found was well maintained such as keeping area's mopped down and hosed down twice daily which included the bar and eating area and the swimming pool especially. we have never seen any one work so hard as the on site family did to keep this holiday complex working. when we met the owners later on the arrival day we found them to be very friendly and gave a very warm welcome to all that arrived the same day. there was a lot of read up with regards to the main road and flight path , this as hardley noticed at all during our stay so would not say that uthis was a problem. Ok the main road was quite busy but did not Intrude on the holiday. Whilst out and about Crete we visited Analipsi and Hersonossos and found some exellent watring holes to accomodate all tastes for the both younger and elder generations. ones to be named are Casa D'Oro in Hersonossos also many other places along the sea front which the staff were very helpfull and any questions asked and wishes was always catered for. Casa D'Oro Meals averaged for a 3 cousre approximately €59 the waiter service was exellent on all occasions that we visited and at the end of the meal we were always toasted to good health with a shot of local spirit from the head waiter. We also hired a car for 5 days and we had an offer of 5 days for the price of 3 which was arround €200.00 which was about £130.00 for the week and found this to be exeptional value for money. this Included Insurance of the car also so we was very fortunate to travel arround Crete at our leisure. Any way this could go on and on for ever, the main reason that we wanted to do this read up was to compliment the Family at Petros Village and we would return again another year so Please Please what any of you have read please visit Petros Village Appartments and see for yiur selves I am sure all will have a great time.
worst accomadation i have ever stayed
from A TripAdvisor Member
!this accomadation is explained in the brocher as being well maintained!!!well if you concider holes in your bathroom ceiling, holes in your bathroom wall with wires hanging from it,a toilet seat that isnt fitted,a shower with no attatchment, mould around your shower area and sink this is the place for you.the dirt we found underneath the cooker and fridge can only be described as distgusting,no wonder we found cockroaches in there!!along with that there were cobwebs in the corners and dust under the matress and along the skirtings and alot of it. the maid service or lack of it the sheets were fully changed in the two weeks we were there and that was with big rips in the pillow cases and the sheets, loverly.! And let me tell you about the friendly people there the fact is they were not!!they didnt make you feel welcome the only words they spoke to you was to ask for money at the bar or to moan at the children if they wanted to play pool while the football was on ,and if your children want to borrow a football off there child they would take it of them ...The bbq night great food but beware or the greek tradition of smashing plates, the old members of the family like to start this with no warning, never mind its next to the pool and never mind if its inches from your childs head and never mind the apology because you wont get one.tell the olympic rep and your told this is all very normal ,well not in my experiencies of greece!
3rd visit to this accommodation
from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just come back from our 3rd visit to this accommodation and have found it fine, everyone who seems to be staying there have returned year after year , of course the accommodation is basic, what do people expect for the star rating, having stayed in 5* accommodation before in Crete I can honestly say that apart from air conditioning the rooms were no less comfortable there than this self catering apartment. We have felt that rather the opposite to the other two reviews the family which run these apartments are and have never been anything but helpful and can never do enough for you. Our daughter and her boyfriend are also returning to Petros next month and they also have experienced 5* accommodation in Crete and could afford this again but have chosen Petros because of A. its situation to Herrsonnisos, being just far enough away not to be caught up in the hustle and bustle of the town unless wanted. B. to be a nice walk from the beach which I might add has never , even in August been so packed that you are fighting for space to move, C. near a lovely village. The air traffic going over of a night is pretty much the same for that whole coast and is very difficult to hear above the sound of the cicada's anyway. The only pitful maybe is the main road outside, but then at least the bus stop is also right outside the premises , which means for 1 euro and no walking you can easily get into the town and back. All in all we have never had such good holidays as we have here and are even considering going back again before the season ends.
Koutouloufari, Hersonissos
from A TripAdvisor Member
Went to Koutouloufari last year, stayed at the Petros Village Apartments, which were wonderful. Apartments were clean and spacious, service was good. The pool was clean, and although there was a cseperate children's area of the pool it was only small. The service at the pool bar was friendly and continued until the guests had gone to bed. The holiday was really good, with a good variety of things to do, excursions and tavernas and restaurents to eat out at. I will definitely return here again.
petros village is Crap with a capital "c"
from A TripAdvisor Member
This accomodation is crap, watch out for the swimming pool, it full of dirt, cold and earthworm. talking of the friendliness of the their owners they are the most intimidating bunch you will ever meet, well you dont need all this when you on holiday it feel like prison after a while as the main roads outside the accomodation is always busy. good luck when you book such a holiday.
Well-maintained & Friendly
from ivornocean
Petros Village - Crete, Olympic Holidays The Net-site refers to 'These well maintained Cretan style apartments" no mention of: ------broken toilet seat & bathroom fittings, dangling light fittings, missing curtains, or hot water available for only one hour every week, (be sure not to miss it) It also says 'renowned for the friendliness of their owners' which may be true, until you ask if someone will remove the live electric wires sticking out of the wall by the Kitchen sink -----or you DARE to ask for HOT water in your shower ! ---- they have a full 6 days-worth of excuses as to why you must be satified with COLD. It does say: 'situated on the busy main road' , but doesn't point out that your bed will be only 30 yards from it, or that the roar of the traffic continues til 0300 hrs, or that you are directly under the flight path into Heraklion, (luckily, aircraft rarely arrive before 0600) With Olympic Holidays, you can : Have endless fun trying to contact them while you're there! Wade through all their pamphets, read all the posters stuck in your rooms, browse all their 'special offers', See if YOU can find a contact number or office adress!! When you give up, contact your Travel agent ------ -& be given the name of Olympic's local Manager ----------- who left 3 months previously!!!!!! & a phone number with a recorded message saying it is 'out of service'. Try the 'Emergency Number'----- ---------& keep on trying, coz it's a Cell phone which is never switched on!!! Take it up with them when you get back ------- & be told that a clause in the brochure reserving their right to deny you any water at all, never mind a hot shower !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Ps. Also through Olympic, you can hire a Fiat punto for 390 euros, with insurance added onto this price; -----or you can hire one locally for 165 euro, including ALL insurances
Had a lovely week away - hotel was better then expected for the price, a nice mix of young and older people there. Would defo go again as its great value for money! Food was nice and a small but good selection of drinks. Had a few cheeky cocktails too which always makes you... more
