Had a lovely week away - hotel was better then expected for the price, a nice mix of young and older people there.
Would defo go again as its great value for money!
Food was nice and a small but good selection of drinks.
Had a few cheeky cocktails too which always makes you feel like your on holiday.
would not recommend for a big group of youngsters as its quite a way from the main town , but perfect for young families , couples and small groups of friends!

Lovely Relaxing Holiday

Aug 2011, The Weatherby's

Just spent 2wks at Petros Village with husband and 2 young boys. Arrived at 5.30am, bit worried with it being on main road. Not a problem, no noise. Bus stop right outside. The 2bed appartment was clean and spacious. Towels, sheets and bin changed and emptied regularly. We were at the back of the complex so it was nice and quiet if you wanted to sit outside on the veranda.
The pool was clean and longers a-plenty. No need to put your towls out at the crack of dawn. The pool bar was lovely and friendly. We ate breakfast there everyday cooked by Maria, and drank many cocktails mixed by George at night.
The evening meals are lovely and the atmosphere to match. The town of Hersonissos is a 5min bus ride (bus stop right outside) with many sea front restaurants and bars. Or you can stroll down to the seafront for more friendly family-run restaurants.
The family hold a weekly BBQ nite which was fantastic value for money. The entertainment was homemade as we met some lovely people. We have taken some very funny and treasured memories away with us.
It is very easy to see why people go back there year after year. We met some lovely people and hope to visit again in the future x

Great retreat for the family

Petros village is welcoming and friendly.
this was my first holiday with the kids to crete,i found gorge to be helpful and friendly as are the rest of the family.
the rooms are basic, and clean just enough kitchen equiptment to keep you going.
the grounds are very well kept, the crickets are loud..
the pool is fantasticly kept clean, the kids loved it exept in the evening when the flys/spiders invade it but petro is always on hand to fish them out.
the bar area is alway clean and tidy as they are constantly doing something, emptying ashtrays, tidying tables.
the recreation area is also clean they have a pool table assortment of english books plus 2 computers with internet 50 cents for 15 mins not bad at all.
my daughter fell in love with niki and the cat!! and wants to return every year.
petro is the boy who lives there, he's about 8, he is also friendly and will do anything for you and got along with the girls ok, a very hard working young man indeed with impecable manners.
the food is marvellous what more can i say!
the pool is open 8am till 8pm you cannot bring your own food & drink around the pool bar area.
reasonable request i think.
the cleaning is of a good standard although i would have liked the loo bin emptied daily us brits and our hygene hmmm, also a warning that the cleaner has been in and mopped the place as i walked in wearing flip flops and skidded all over the place could have been a nasty accident..
sunday nite was bbq time small charge but lots of fun, with free drinks.
whilst there we hired quad bikes at 20 euros a day which is the cheapest you'll find from a place called summer time. But you will have to leave quads outside the gates its quite safe just DO NOT leave much petrol in them as there are many who will steal your petrol we lost 40 euro's worth, and hired them for 5 days. its worth getting them as you can explore the villages and more we traveled a lot on them and had the most exellent holiday.
conclusion this is a fab basic family resort.

We stayed at petros village for the first time in june 2000. It was more than what we expected for the price. The owners were so helpfull and friendly, even driving us to our day excursion to the water park, and offering to pick us up. The food was fabulous, cooked by Maria, the Kleftiko to die for !! The atmosphere was fantastic and we met lots of great people. We returned in 2002 and were met with a great reception from Michael and his family. We loved it here so much and are looking to return in 2011. To know that the family still runs it, is the reason why, lovely people.

good value for low cost holiday.

we have just returned back from a 7 day break at Petros Village. After reading mixed reviews i can say that the apartments although basic were clean and kept clean with clean sheets and towels provided reguarly. The food although a basic menu was always well cooked and piping hot. The pool area is clean as is the pool its self. The apartments are on a main road but this was no bother. The beaches are good but quite alot of rocks making it difficult to get into the water. There are a sprinkling of tavernas (Zorbas being very good) in the village.
To sum up a good value no frills holiday made all the better by the owners of Petros Village who are very welcoming.

Holiday from Hell
2 / 10
Aug 2010, disasterous

As an 18 year old male on my first holiday with a group of friends but having been abroad on holiday every year with my parents I can honestly say that my stay at Petros Village was the worst experience of my life. The owners were very rude and unhelpful and the olympic holiday rep was worse. As there was 9 of us, 4 male and 5 female we had three apartments all of which were below average standard. The Health and Safety standard left a lot to be desired. Do they not have health and safety standards in Greece. In all three apartments the shower gave off electric shocks, how dangerous is that, we are lucky to have survived, we reported this to both the owners and the olympic holiday rep, nothing was done. In Greece you can't flush paper down the toilet, all used toilet paper is placed in a bin in the bathroom, this is only collected and taken away once a week, how vile is that. We were told off for making noise at the pool during the day, we had to sit quietly and behave. What are we? adults or school children. I would not recommend Petros Village to anyone, especially young people. Having read through other reviews for these apartments, anyone who gave them a good review is obviously not used to any better.

Halki is a beautiful quiet island,...

Halki is a beautiful quiet island, its nice and peaceful and not too touristy! its a nice get away with crystal blue waters.
Theres an old ruin castel on top of a big hill which is a must see! with amazing views over the town and island. Also a small monestry, but its a long walk or a 25 euro taxi (pretty but only for monestry enthusiasts really)
food in the restaurants is a little more expensive than on the mainland but still easily affordable. We ate out for 2 people with 2 starters, mains and drinks for about 20-28 euros.
Hotel was really big and clean, nice balcony with views over island. big fridge/freezer, sink and kitted out with cups, plates etc. Shopping at supermarkets is easy and cheap....all the people are really friendly and helpful too.
labsalutly oved the holiday, not a place for people wanting to party though! lots of people we met were holiday-ers who return to the island year after year so you get to know lots of friendly holiday makers.

A bacteriologist’s delight! Along...

A bacteriologist’s delight!
Along review, so I’ll write the conclusion first in case and give my reasons later.
This place is fine if if you intend to sleep standing up and can put up with the awful hygiene standards and lack of service. Only consider this place if you can find a really cheap deal, and even then choose somewhere else. It really is a false economy to go here.
Location
It is right on a main road (similar to the A1) and about 10 minutes by bus from Hersonissos. There is a small village and a nice beach about 15 minutes away. The bus stop is right outside the hotel (which is good) but the buses can work out quite expensive. We went in to Hersonissos or Malia quite often in the evening and this added 12 Euros to our night out (family of four).
Rooms
The rooms are a decent size with twin beds and a small balcony. There are French doors with wooden shutters and they look very good until you look around.
The beds were stained and smelt like a dog had been there before us. The taps dripped, there was no toilet seat, no shower curtain (this meant that the water went everywhere and was really dangerous), no soap, no plug for the sink etc.
We had one plate, a bowl, a few spoons and a huge pan. They were all filthy (the pan looked as though the last occupant had used it to wash her feet in – the clue was in the nail clippings and dry skin in the pan).
There was no hot water in the morning (maybe that’s why she used the pan), indeed there was only hot water in the late afternoon and early evening. This is fine if you are just lounging around the pool all day, but if you want to head out on a trip you’ll need to get used to having a cold shower – and of course when you return there will be no hot water either.
Bedding was changed 3 times during our two week stay. Towels were changed twice a week. We were given one medium towel and one small towel per person and had to make these last four days. We did ask for more but were told that they did not have any other towels.
The bins were also emptied every four days. This was a real problem. As in most places in Greece, used toilet tissue is placed in a bin rather than flushed away in the loo. This is fine, but you don’t want to share a room with used lavatory paper for four days. Uuugh! Again we asked for it to be changed but nothing was done. When my other bin was full, I put some empty plastic water bottles in the bin by the pool. The owner ran after me to tell me that I couldn’t put my rubbish in there and that I should take it outside onto the street and walk down past the bus stop to put it in a wheelie bin. I asked him to do it and he said he was too busy. I asked why the bins were not changed and he replied that ‘this is not a hotel’. Indeed it is not.
The pool area
The pool is quite small and very deep. The shallow end is about a metre deep and immediately starts to slope down, reaching a depth of about three metres.
The garden area and poolside are kept clean and tidy. They are hosed down each morning and the grass is cut each week. The sunbeds (about 20 or so) have seen much better days, but are ok to lie on.
The pool itself is a real problem. It has a thick brown scum mark around the edge. I asked about this and was told (by the Olympic Rep) that this is quite normal. The next day the cleaner was scrubbing the side of the pool to try and get the scum mark off. She was using ordinary household cleaners and cloths and was scrubbing away while the pool was full of people. Apart from this, the pool was never cleaned – dead insects floated on the surface in amongst a film of sun-lotion and sweat. At the bottom of the pool were more dead insects, dirt, dead skin etc. There is a filter system but it is never checked and the water quality was dreadful. I don’t know how much bacteria must be in the pool but you may as well stick your heads down the u-bend.
The bar area
The bar area was fine and the food looked ok too. Drinks and food were served and there was always someone on duty. The owners are really bar staff, not hoteliers and this was the real problem. When they serve you at the bar, they can speak English – when you ask for something, they can’t. Incidentally, there is no reception area, so if you need to ask for something, you have to ask across the bar while they are serving other people.
Give this place a miss and enjoy your holiday some other place. Crete, by the way, is lovely and well worth a visit.
