We have just returned from a week at the Sonesta beach hotel. It was fantastic. before we went I read a few reviews, some of which were bad, I wish I’d never bothered, I was worried unnecessarily.
The rooms weren't the largest I’ve stayed in but they were clean and bright and the bed was huge! The many restaurants we used there were fabulous although we both suffered with Egyptian tummy on the last day! worth it though! I would recommend this accommodation to anyone, families, couples its great x

The hotel is great very clean, though do not wear white by or in the pool as they are not very clean round the edges. Do be careful around the pool as it gets very slippy and it is only funny watching people fall over till you do it yourself!!

The staff are very friendly. the rooms are great we had a double room which had a dressing room, bathroom, bedroom, Lounge area and a small room, which we presumed, is for a cot or extra bed.
Be prepared to walk at this hotel, although you are near the town it took us 10 mins to get from our room to reception and 15 mins to get to the promenade that takes you into town. It is 20 mins from the hotel into town.
All in all we had a wonderful holiday with no trouble. Can’t wait to go back. Would recommend it to anyone.

Really fantastic resort and holiday....

Really fantastic resort and holiday. The rooms were fairly compact but pretty and the whole resort had a nice theme to it so you really felt like you were abroad.
Meal times were quite hectic and I didn’t feel like I knew what I had to do, whether I helped myself and waited for someone to serve me.
The staff were friendly and helpful, although I did become quite ill, probably due to the water.
I warn you not to use the taps in the rooms, even for brushing your teeth, the water there causes you to be quite ill and most of my holiday was spent in my room or on the sunbed fully clothed because of my temperature!
There is lots to do in the area but requires buses to places, this is all arranged.
The scuba diving is just out of this world, the coral and sea is beautiful.
The resort is quite big and lots of pools here and there and plenty of places to sunbathe.
Be aware of the tourist strip along the sea front, its about 1 mile long and the locals grab you, trying to sell you something or get you into their shop. I wouldn’t buy the perfumes they try to sell you, they smell horrible and nothing like the CHANEL they say it is!
Food is good, lots of places and things to do along the strip. There is a shopping complex further up with more stuff to browse through. Good British bar along there and a weird nightclub in the shape of a red bus! I never went in.
All in all, a good hot holiday, lots of relaxing and sun and once away from the tourist parts, its beautiful.

For the disabled traveller, the...

Jan 2004, Miss AJ Webb

For the disabled traveller, the entire trip was a nightmare! not a holiday. Lack of adequate facilities, lack of tact and respect by the staff.
The accommodation and resort were quite in access-able. Lastminute.com the booking agent assured me that the resort and surroundings were totally wheelchair friendly. The bathrooms were tiny, when I needed the toilet I had to get to the reception as my own bathroom was too narrow for my wheelchair.
There were many steps all over the resort. At meal times I couldn’t see the buffet food (which was up a flight of stairs) I had to guess and send a waiter. Having a porter take you to the toilet isn’t quite what I had in mind.
The step into my room had to be removed so I could wheel my chair in. I couldn’t access the patio as the doors were too narrow and it was crammed with furniture. I was man-handled a lot in order to access areas that other tourists found easy. There was a huge lack of communication. The representative said ‘yes’ a lot and stared a lot more. But no action was taken to aid me. The majority of the excursions on offer were inaccessible too. Fellow guests found a wheelchair accessible bar - the camel bar-a fantastic place run by Londoners.
On the flights home I was denied ‘first on’, I had to board last to a packed flight where the ambi-lift took me to the front of the plane and two airport staff failed in attempt to carry me to an inappropriate seat. I was dropped and bashed against seats. I was prescribed morphine by the captain for the duration of the flight home.
All in all a shocking holiday. I do not recommend any disabled traveller to book a holiday or fly with these people. Its crazy.
