Torre Yago Apartments

The apartments Yago are an extremely popular and much sort after location due to their very large size (some sleep up to 8 persons ) and their perfect position directly upon the Levante sands. There is not a pool due to the beach being only across the promonade.

We have been staying at the Torre Yago twice a year for over four years and find the apartments ideal for the price. Whenever we go self catering we always spend a couple of hours or so cleaning just to make sure everything is OK and staying in Spain is no exception.

The apartments are showing their age but they’re spacious and the location is fantastic, never any trouble with louts, no pool – no problem. The staff are friendly providing you remember smile and say hola amigo. Mosquitoes can bite anywhere any time, usually when you’re sat outside a bar having a cold one.

Buses are a great way of getting about with a standard 1 euro fare no matter how far you're going. Benidorm is a place to do as you please, have a drink, have a laugh, go for a walk, have a paddle, have a snooze, lots of places to eat, relax and enjoy.

Beware if you are considering these apartments take my advice think again! Stay anywhere else even the beach would be better than these apartments.

We arrived on the Saturday afternoon and collected keys from somewhere round the corner as there would be no one at reception to help us until Monday. When trying to open apartment door took us ten minutes to get it open then wished it had stayed shut the smell coming from apartment was disgusting like sewage. Then started 48 wasted hours of our holiday.

We opened all windows trying to get fresh air into rooms, bought bleach, cleaning products and air fresheners and cleaned apartment from top to bottom which did not help at all. Tried to contact someone from apartments and McKenzie Cook travel who had sent us to this dump by phone and email no help at all. Exhausted from traveling and cleaning tried to get some sleep but was woken at 3am bitten from insects when we turned on the lights every room was covered with insects inside wardrobes everywhere, that was the last straw we could not wait until Monday to try and get this problem sorted and get moved from this dump.

So first thing Sunday morning we were walking the streets going from hotel to hotel until we got a room for the remainder of our holiday at the pueblo hotel then we had to transfer all our luggage from apartment to hotel. But at least once we were settled into our hotel room for the first time in two days we could start our holiday properly, no horrible smells here, no insect, no filth, just a lovely spotless room perfect.

The owners of these apartments and travel agents Mckenzie Cook, have been no help to us in this matter at all.

So again if you have been offered these apartments for you holiday which you probably like us look forward to my advice is run a mile.

Arrived here 30 Sept 06, collected our keys form another apartment (wonder why?). Got to the front door and had trouble opening it eventually we got in and the stench of sewage coming from the kitchen was disgusting. The apartments were very old and needed a lot of attention. The water was brown the sink was blocked so the water would not drain away.

There were a lot of mosquitoes and other insects, we were bitten several times. We contacted the manager in Benidorm he told us there were no other apartments in Benidorm available and that we would have to wait until Monday for a cleaner.

We decided to take action ourselves and scrub the apartment with bleach and other cleaning materials. Sprayed the whole apartment with mosquito repellent and aerosols.

Went out for something to eat as we could not eat in there. Came back and washed all the floors with bleach, decided to unpack but the wardrobes and bedrooms were still full of mosquitoes and insects the place needed to be fumigated.

Tried to have a sleep but it was impossible as we kept get bitten. 3. am 1 Oct we had enough. We went out to look for a hotel found the hotel Pueblo but had to wait until 7.30am and book in.

I did try to contact Mackenzie Cook in England by telephone 3 times and it kept going on to answer machine that's when I sent them several emails. They told us to go back to the apartments that they were clean (how do they know that?)

We had enough now we decide to enjoy our holiday at the mosquito and insect free hotel Pueblo, it was clean smelled lovely. (Great)

Never ever again Mackenzie Cook or Torre Yago! They tried to spoil our holiday but did not succeed.

We arrived on sat 30 September around 3.00pm. We had to collect our keys from another apartment. We had trouble trying to open the door once inside we wished the door would have stayed closed. The smell from the sink in the kitchen was disgusting. The mugs and cutlery were dirty. The bathroom was old and not cleaned. The sink in the small shower room the water was brown and would not drain away. We contacted the manager and all he could say that there were no other apartments in Benidorm available and we would have to wait until Monday for the cleaner.

We then decided to clean the apartments ourselves with bleach and other cleaners for the kitchen and bathroom. When we decided to unpack the wardrobes and bedrooms were swarming with mosquitoes and other insects. After wasting 3 hours cleaning and unpacking we were bitten alive and decided to take a walk and find a hotel for our weeks holiday. We booked into the pueblo hotel which was clean smelled lovely and definitely no mosquitoes or insects. I sent Mackenzie Cook emails but I was wasting my time as they kept saying that they were clean.

I would not recommend these apartments or Mackenzie cook to any of my family or friends. I cannot understand why they rent these apartments out and expect people to live in them. The apartments need to be fumigated painted cleaned and then maybe they can class them as basic apartments.

We arrived at these apartments on sat 30 September 06, we were told the apartments were basic, but this was a total joke as soon as we got to the apartments first we had problems trying to open the door, the stink inside the apartments was unbearable it was the smell of a sewerage farm. We went to Mackenzie cook office in Benidorm but guess what?? It is closed down. We scrubbed the apartments clean with bottles of bleach and other materials but made no difference. After travelling we were tired so we decided to go for a sleep but it was impossible as the place was ridden with bugs as we were bitten alive.

We have now booked into the Pueblo Hotel which is like a palace and very clean. No bugs or mosquitoes to be found.

I would strongly advise people not to go to these apartments as you would be wasting your time and money.

On arrival we were dropped off in the car park to the apartments where our driver told us we needed to pick up key from another hotel close by Approx 5 minute walk.

Not such a huge inconvenience to us as a couple of us had stayed in Benidorm before and knew where to go. Inside the reception area where it was dark and tired looking there was no-one there to greet us, we then proceeded to our room (what we called our flat). Our first thoughts as a group of six women in our thirties was that it was a bit unkempt and did have a bit of a drain smell coming from the kitchen.

The bed and bed linen was clean and the whole of the apartment was also tidy.

The next day we did have to report the water as we all had cold showers but once reported to a friendly man who knocked about in reception it was put right immediately we also reported the smell coming from the kitchen he told us to keep the plug and bought us air freshener problem solved.

The location was perfect for beach clubs pubs eating out what more could six girls want for and excellent holiday had by all will book again hopefully next year.

Arrived in Torre Yago around 10 in the morning was met by very friendly man in reception who took me my partner and 2 children 2adults to the 4 floor he made sure everything was fine before he left.

The apartments had everything you need for self-catering. Was very clean and the maids came twice a week with fresh bedding and towels. The Torre Yago is right on the beach front were all the entertainment is but we had 2 children aged 3 and 9 with us but they didn’t have any problems sleeping as we thought we would we booked with McKenzie cook travel we had a very good holiday.

We strongly recommended booking with them. Has we will be doing in the near future.

On arrival the entrance hall was dingy and reeked of cheap disinfectant. The reception desk was scruffy and shambolic. The lifts were clean and turned out to be the most attractive part of the apartment block.

On arrival at the sixth floor which was in pitch darkness (2.00pm) we had to feel around the walls for a light switch. When we finally got into the apartment (No.1) it was dark and stank of damp and mould. The whole apartment had the appearance of a very "tired" and dingy welfare type flat.

The 'en suite' bathroom stank and was filthy. the WC had not been cleaned properly for ages. After a look at all the rooms we decided it was so dreadful we were not going to stay there a moment longer, and promptly crossed the road to the Don Pancho hotel and booked in for the week. We were fortunate in as much as we could afford to take this course of action, many family groups who save hard all year and are confronted with this rubbish perhaps could not!

We did not even bother to complain to the agents. what is the point, they would have a string of excuses. Beware of the brochure, as the camera certainly does lie. Never ever again.
