Filoxenia Hotel Reviews
" If you want a quiet holiday with not... "
Submitted By: Mrs L Smith
If you want a quiet holiday with not much to do but lounge about the pool all day with a few quiet drinks at night, then Tholos is the place for you. A few bars, tavernas and a couple of supermarkets make up the village of Tholos. Unfortunately, we were looking for something more and found ourselves pretty bored a few days into our week.
The Filoxenia Hotel is basic but clean and spacious. Our room had a double and a single bed and there was still plenty of room for manoeuvre. There is a fridge, cooker and air con in the room but these are charged at around 5 euros each appliance per day to have them switched on. Only pay this if you consider it worth it, we didn't as it was cheaper to eat in the local tavernas, especially Billy's Place, where you get good food at reasonable prices.
You can get the bus from Tholos to Rhodes Town which stops right outside the Filoxenia and costs around 2.10 euros for one person for a single trip. Do beware, however, that the prices for food and drink in Rhodes Old Town are much more expensive than Tholos, especially the bars and restaurants around the fountain area. Archipelagos is a good restaurant, but check out the prices before sitting down.
Booking with On The Beach via the internet was a whole different matter. They cancelled our holiday the day before we were due to leave and I had to spend an hour and a half on the phone to get different flights and accommodation.
We ended up leaving from a different airport and stayed at a completely different resort to where we had originally booked. So make sure you receive confirmation from them at least.
I would not recommend booking with them as there was no customer service once we arrived in our resort. We stayed at the Filoxenia for a week and saw no rep from a British Holiday company.
Overall, although it was not our type of holiday, if you are looking for a peaceful week or two in the sun with not much to do, then go to Tholos. If not, Ixia or Rhodes Town would be a better option.

The Filoxenia's grounds and 3 pools (2 quite large and 1 baby) are attractive and extremely well-kept; they have a crazy golf; enormous draughts & chess boards, swings and a see-saw. The family who own it live above the restaurant and are very welcoming.
One nice touch is a 'library' of approximately 200/300 books where visitors can leave, exchange and borrow holiday reading.
Most rooms overlook the pool area and have views across to the Turkish mainland. Ours was light and airy; we had daily cleaning and fresh towels with a bed change every other day.
The restaurant is really attractive with indoor and outdoor sections; it has old Greek artefacts and an overhead pergola full of bougainvillea. Most importantly it has mosquito zappers!!
There's a bus service immediately outside the gates that goes North along the coast to Rhodes town.
We hired a car and found the best price was at 'Payless' next to the nearest supermarket. We got 3 days for the price of 2. (Bit like Boots!) It was worth it as there are some amazing places to see, like: Tsampiki Beach Lindos, Rhodes old town as well as just meandering around the island.
Occasionally, you may feel patronised as the term "Of course" is used for everything!! You're not; it's just a generic term they all use.
If you want to relax in the sun; step off the treadmill and recharge; this is the ideal spot.
We'll certainly go back.
