Depending on your human outlook i.e....
6 / 10
Jul 2007, Mr R Lambert

Depending on your human outlook i.e. we're all a bit strange to someone, Barbara was a bit eccentric, even Basil-ish, but not such a bad lass. Her Aussie husband was a nice bloke though in her shadow.
The hotel is obviously 2 star though worth the money. We had a cheapy fortnight and hired a car, so spent most days touring the island which is beautiful. The nightly karaoke was annoying some nights as it was outside our ground floor room, which incidentally was changed (due to my bad back)from an upstairs room immediately upon me asking.
The karaoke ended religiously at 1a.m. every night as did the pool close at 7p.m. We contributed to the karaoke on a few nights to help Barbara out as she was really trying to make people enjoy themselves. She was a penny-pincher with fans, air-con etc. but I don't know what stress she's under in that business to stay afloat.
You had to leave your key at reception if you went out, plus the air-con key had to remain turned on in the system to stay on, hence a guest showed us how to separate the key from the thickly welded key-ring with a rock, ensuring that our room was lovely and cool when we returned. It felt a bit like mission impossible doing this manoeuvre, also sneaking out the back past Barbara to evade her questions about why we weren't staying in that night, but it added to our excitement and ultimate fun. The food was not bad, even good on occasion but we mostly ate at small tavernas. Bottom line is, we wouldn't go back, but only because we've been there, done that etc.

Lindos Pines is not as bad as people...

Apr 2006, Mrs P Parker

Lindos Pines is not as bad as people are saying on these reviews. When we first arrived we noticed all the beautiful flowers and hanging baskets outside the resort.
Checking in was ok but i was disappointed that we had to carry our own suitcases up all of the steps, with no one to help. We were greeted by Barbara, a little mad but very caring underneath! Our apartments were very basic and fairly clean, but were alright considering it was only a two star.
The bathroom floor was a little slippery as there was no shower curtain, this could be a problem if you have trouble walking. Barbara was pleased to tell us about her karaoke and Greek nights. The music went on up to a reasonable time but didn't bother us too much. Barbara never failed to sing her favourite song as my children used to call it 'you fill up my senses'! We found the food on the Greek night very nice and enjoyed watching the dancing. But let me warn you they were very keen to get you up dancing and moving about!
The barmen and women were very nice and pleasant. The pool was lovely to relax in, clean and was not usually crowded. Pefkos its self was really nice and quiet, and we always felt very safe walking around at night.
Our favourite restaurant was 'roumelli no.4' as it was excellent service of food and extremely friendly. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would maybe consider coming again.

Mar 2006, peterpownall

These are comments I made after a visit to Lindos Pines in 2001. Obviously nothing has changed and I can't understand why tour operators continue to have this hotel in their brochures.
Well, Basil and Sybil are alive and well and running this hotel but in reserve order.
Basil is in the form of Barbara who hypes up Lindos Pines to be the best hotel in Pefkos and provides to best and cheapest food and drink in town. Don't believe a word of it. Although the drinks may be the cheapest, this is the first place outside the UK I have seen spirits being measured before being poured into a glass; and they are by no means generous measures.
When we ate there, which was not very often, the food was quite good but not well presented. The hotel itself has so much potential but has become somewhat rundown and if the right sort of money was spent in the right places, it would be an excellent place for a holiday. We had no complaints about our room. It was kept clean although the weather was constantly very hot and the fan we hired did not help a great deal. In this spot on Rhodes, the rooms really need air conditioning.
The pool was not cleaned of debris often enough and the poolside was never cleaned at all. It was constantly dirty with dog ends and other litter left for days. The area around the outside restaurant is like a small village square and again has a lot of potential. However, this too was not kept as clean as it should have been and the owners' collie dog was often seen asleep on the floor of the kitchen area.
All around the hotel is a lot of vegetation, but it is not maintained so has become in many places unsightly. It also attracts the usual insects particularly mosquitoes which my wife found out to her great cost. The reps will tell you to walk to the main part of Pefkos, you turn right out of the hotel, up the hill and turn left and walk five minutes along the road. - Don't! - Turn left out of the hotel and the narrow road will take you to Pefkos with a less incline.
This road will also take you past two other hotels where you can use the much cleaner pools and sample the excellent food. We would in the future, return to Pefkos. However, it would not be to Lindos Pines.

We had read reviews of this hotel...

Jan 2006, Mrs B Martin

We had read reviews of this hotel before going on a last minute deal so were prepared.
Yes, its basic and Barbara is mad as a hatter but the setting is to die for and the staff (we found) really friendly. In fact it seemed as if they are in league with the guests to thwart Barbara and make sure you enjoy yourself. We got extra portions at breakfast with a nod and a wink from the staff when Barbara's back was turned!
One thing that was a bit disturbing was that twice(!) guests had the safety deposit boxes raided and all Barbara said was to go to the Police.
My husband got an ear infection (we think from the pool) and when the local doctor came she charged 50 Euros for an injection of what was Paracetamol so be warned.
The local restaurants are great with fantastic views of the sunsets.
Pefkos has a great little bakers which seems to be open 24 hrs and sells wonderful bread and cakes all freshly made.
Lindos is a few minutes taxi ride away and is very picturesque. We went to the Temple of Artemis on donkeys which was spectacular but if you do go, go early (it opens at 8.30) before the coaches arrive.
We also hired a car and it was fine to drive although Rhodes town was a bit hairy but we went back 3 times so can't have been that bad!
Also take the chance to go island hopping on the ferry. It was lovely and cooling. Watch for getting ripped off at some of the restaurants in Rhodes Town...that was the only downer on the holiday.

Dirty and noisy are the two words...
1 / 10
Oct 2004, Mrs J S

Dirty and noisy are the two words which spring to mind regarding this hotel. Rooms were not clean as basically Barbara, the owner manager, does not have enough staff to run the place. The staff are treated badly, having to work from seven in the morning until about two the next morning. She abuses them in front of guests, in English. During this summer she has had in excess of sixty staff working there. Some only hack it for one day.
She allows guests to feed the stray cats off the breakfast dishes. Towels are only changed every three or four days. Thomas Cook holidays are quite happy for them to be changed only every three days. On one occasion I received a ‘clean’ towel which had dried faeces on it. The towels are always grey and often full of holes. The sheets are as thin as muslin.
The noise is continuous despite the Greek law forbidding the playing of music in the open air after midnight. If you ask for it to be turned down you get abuse from the owner and she tries to turn people in the bar on you. She spends ages telling you about her financial problems, dresses inappropriately ie parades round in knickers and bra barely covered by a thin, short wrap (she is no spring chicken).
In short, the holiday from hell.
Incidentally, the slight incline described in the holiday brochures is more a kin to the north face of the Anapurna!

I have just spent a week at the...
2 / 10
Oct 2004, Mr J Renshaw

I have just spent a week at the ‘Lindos Pines resort’ at Pefkos in Rhodes, and have to say that it has been the worst holiday hotel experience I have ever had.
The brochure states that the ‘Lindos Pines’ is a ‘quiet hotel, suitable for families and couples’ - this could not be further from the truth.
We had read lots of reports about the hotel before we went (but after we had booked!), and were a little sceptical as they weren’t good reports, but decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. We arrived at the hotel early on the Sunday morning to be signed in at reception, given a key and directed to our room - (this was the last time anyone was seen on reception). We got to the room and found it to be very basic - no problem with that, it wasn’t expected to be grand or anything. We had a look around and were very disappointed and shocked at what we saw in certain areas.
The bathroom was a ‘wet’ bathroom i.e. designed to get wet all over, and no shower curtain. The shower head was broken, directing a lot of water upwards through a crack - this was not a problem until you saw the electrical switch very close by and that the lighting over the mirror was also very open to exposure to the wet. I taped the shower head up, to avoid the spray going into the electrical switch. The general state of repair of the bathroom also being very poor, with holes in the wall and tiles.

The furniture within the room itself was basic (again no problem, but was in such a poor state of repair, although I do appreciate it had a season of use, I shouldn’t expect to put up with rubbish just because I was the last person in the room). The sheets that were put on the bed were disgusting (my girlfriend’s sheets had stains on them, whereas mine had holes in them. We made the most of the holiday by spending as much time as possible away from the room, just using it for sleep - but that was another problem!
The hotel has a tannoy system for music, and held karaoke evenings for three of the nights we were there! No problem in that, except we overlooked the ‘stage’ area. Again not a problem, until you realise that the music etc went on for several mornings until 2.30am, and not quietly, but extremely loudly! This was encouraged by the barman and also the owner of the hotel (Barbara), so that she was getting the takings in the bar. This was not just residents from our hotel, but "guests" invited in from other hotels - it was as though she didn’t give a damn about her own guests, just the revenue that was coming in. It wasn’t just the loud music either - guests from other hotels were allowed to use the pool until a similar time in the morning (2.30am), and then going back to their own hotels for peace and quiet! One night, I managed all off 4 hours sleep due to the music etc - not a very relaxing holiday! I can only imagine what the hotel would have been like if it had been full of guests and not two thirds empty as it was due to being the end of the season! Other couples also complained about the noise and the use of the pool!
The food standards and hygiene at the hotel were also diabolical. Breakfast was served up by ‘Sophia’, who didn’t care about what she served up and spent most of the time she was serving with a cigarette in her hand or in her mouth. Breakfast consisted of a bread roll, and slice of cheese and a hard boiled egg (the egg being replaced by ham every other day) - not a real problem with the amount of food (although very small), but when it came to one morning when the ham box was opened by Sophia to find a wasp crawling all over the ham, she removed the cigarette from her mouth, brushed the wasp aside and then still served the ham up! Very nice and hygienic! Also, on returning to our room one day we discovered a rather large cockroach, which wasn’t a very nice thing to find!
We were certainly ready to leave the hotel by the end of the week, but thought we would ask if we could keep the room on until we left - we were told we should have booked this (although two thirds of the rooms were empty) but that we could keep it on for an extra 40 euros - the rate for the room for the whole night was only 42.50 euros! We decided against this as it was too much, and we wouldn’t have had the sleep anyway, as the music was played up until the point we left! As we went to check out, we had to wait over an hour for someone to come to reception to do this for us (there were another couple waiting also!), so wasting our precious last day. (At one point, the owner’s husband came through reception, looked at us, looked at the telephone that had been ringing continuously, then ignored us and walked off!) When we asked if there was anywhere we could keep our luggage, we were told very impolitely by the owner that it was not her responsibility - basically, it was as though she had had her money out of us and now get out of my hotel! She seemed annoyed that we didn’t keep our rooms on, so paying her the extra money! We still had nearly 14 hours until we were being picked up by the coach!
Barbara (the hotel owner) is as bad as they say - she is a very bitter woman towards Golden Sun who went bust, and takes every opportunity to tell you that she has lost a lot of money due to them. You cannot trust the things she says, as she is saying anything to make you spend money at her hotel! She says that the guests are so important to her, but only when you are spending money at her bar etc!
To say that I am very disappointed is a gross understatement - my holiday has been terrible, and the much needed rest and relaxation my partner and I needed from work not obtained - I actually came back more shattered than when I went away!
I would never again go to the Lindos Pines unless it changed management (even if offered a free holiday there!). Go there if you like late nights, lack of sleep, poor food and shabby accommodation!
Pefkos itself is very pleasant though!

Hello, found this site by chance and...

Sep 2004, Miss N Hurst

Hello,
found this site by chance and thought I would save the suffering of other holiday makers thinking of going to stay at Lindos Pines in Pefkos, Greece....one word DON'T!!
First impressions of this hotel/apartments was good quite clean but how wrong we were. We were greeted by the famous Barbara who said during our stay we must go to her famous Greek BBQ at least once which we agreed then were left to go to our room. When we did turn up for Greek night we were the only couple there, which was surprising until you looked at the food!!
I was told I had a pool view infact you did if you had a neck like a giraffe!
The room was tired, dated and very standard. Furniture unlearned and needing replacement and no mozzy nets which turned out to be a nightmare. You do get air con though which is a perk! Also never keep your safe key behind reception we did only to turn up one night and the whole reception left unmanned so anyone could get to your valuables-no I'm not joking!!
To cut along story short during our stay we had human excrement coming through the sink and the drain in the bathroom and urine spurting out of the shower. When we tried to find Barbara to tell her the horror that we found in our sink she was nowhere to be found until Greek night. Her dog none stop barks from morning till night and upsetting enough being a dog lover myself I nearly strangled it twice!! The kitchen is unhygienic and needs a good clean and the place a good sprucing up.
Save your money and avoid this one especially Barbara that lady is crazy.

Nice surroundings, Barbara the...

Sep 2004, Roy & Marg

Nice surroundings, Barbara the manager is very pushy trying to sell us barbecue tickets and Greek night tickets at 2am when we arrived!
Unfortunately our original room overlooked the bar area and we were kept awake until after 3am (when the bar closed) by loud pop music and drunks under our window.
When we asked to move Barbara was very obliging and we were moved the same day but the man who organised it said that they had to move everyone who stayed in those particular rooms.
The services were fine, if a little erratic, sheets changed every 2 days and towels either every other day or, as during the last week, just once.
The reception desk was never manned but you could always find someone to attend to you behind the bar, we never left our keys at reception however, it wouldn’t have been safe.
We didn’t eat at the Lindos Pines because we like a quiet holiday and were not happy with the loud pop music played from lunchtime every day until the early hours. Other guests, including the couple in the next room to us who had also asked to be moved from their original room, agreed about the music.
That apart we had a great holiday, the resort was excellent and good food was available at a very reasonable price in resort. Try Aphrodite and George’s Taverna!
The beaches on the island are first class and taxi travel and car hire very reasonable.

The Lindos pines is OK. Don’t go...

Aug 2004, Mrs Becky Newman

The Lindos pines is OK.
Don’t go there with high expectations. The hotel is very basic, our room was only cleaned once during the week, bed linen and towels changed once too.
The breakfasts are a bit of a joke, but we didn’t see this as too much of a problem.
The hotel itself and the surrounding resort of Pefkos felt very safe.
There are some lovely restaurants around the area, our favourites were Enigma and Philosophia( fantastic taverna over looking the beach).
Barbara the Infamous owner of the Lindos pines is actually quite a nice person, a little mad maybe but on the whole does seem to try her best to make sure everyone is having a good time.
There is a hint of Faulty Towers about the place, which keeps you amused !!!
Last but not least Air-con is a MUST, don’t bother with hiring a fan first as you will all most definitely need to opt for the wonderful air-con.

I have been in Pefkos the whole of...
7 / 10
Jul 2004, Miss a Holiday watchdog reader

I have been in Pefkos the whole of this summer and been at the Lindos Pines all of this time as well and after reading some of the reviews I feel I have to put a few things straight.
Firstly, the manager Barbara is a bit overbearing. However, unless you are rude to her she is not rude to you. She does not appreciate guests complaining about her hotel, that is fair to say but show me a Greek hotelier who does. She does sometimes get a bit obnoxious with people she knows have complained but this is due to the pride she has in her hotel.
At the end of the day, the Lindos Pines is a two star hotel in Greece and I think people should look at exactly what this means. You don’t get tea/coffee machines or kettles. You don’t get your bedding and towels changed every day. You don’t get a full English breakfast for the money you pay and show me a brochure that says you do.
Rooms are cleaned every three days and this is generally done. Sometimes rooms are missed - possibly because people are still in the rooms - but it is nothing that cannot be sorted if people actually brought there concerns to the attention of their rep or the staff.
Breakfast is served at the pool bar and I would like to set the record straight that the staff, namely Sofia who was mentioned does NOT smoke behind the counter and does certainly not serve food with a cigarette in her hand or in her mouth. This is complete rubbish made up to make the hotel sound worse.
Late checkouts are available to all guests and I am not aware of anyone that has been refused this as Barbara is all to keen to get the extra money. Be aware that if you book a night flight then you are going to have to pay something but this is standard.
There is never anyone on reception and this is pointed out to all guests. Any help required can be found at the pool bar.
Noise from the pool bar can be a small problem but this does not go on after around 1am at the very latest. I would like to point out that NOBODY is allowed in the pool after around 7pm so claims that people were in there at 2.30am are unfounded. Guests from other hotels are allowed in the hotel bar and pool and show me a hotel in Pefkos where they are not but certainly not in the early hours of the morning. In all fairness, they do not come to the pool area at all. mainly as the Lindos Pines is on the outskirts of Pefkos and not that many people walk past.
In closing, if you go to the Lindos Pines expecting a three or four-star hotel then of course you are going to be disappointed. If you go expecting a basic 2 star property and take Barbara as you find her you should not be disappointed.

Jul 2004, Sarah and Paul

We are just back from 2 weeks at the Lindos pines and had a great time. We booked it before we read the reviews on the Internet so we were really sceptical about what we were going to find. When we arrived we were really pleasantly surprised. The rooms are simple, clean and comfy (air-con is a must though) and the pool area is nice. The pool bar serves big cold beers for E2.50 and the food is not bad - but not as good as you get in town. Even the infamous Barbara is actually pretty pleasant - and very entertaining! We didn’t have any bad experiences when we were there, and didn’t hear of any problems with safety deposit boxes this year. Some people’s electricity cut off a couple of times, but that would have been the same in any hotel. The breakfasts raised a few complaints, but then I don’t know what people expect for a continental breakfast if not bread, jam, honey, cheese, ham, egg, orange juice, tea and coffee, and there weren’t loads of flies about like someone says below! We didn’t see any of the bugs or cats that other reviews mention either. Maybe things were different last year.
Pefkos is lovely and the Lindos Pines is handily situated for the town and for the fantastic beach. There are lots of nice restaurants in Pefkos but we particularly liked Enigma and Terpsis. Kelari (on the road down to the beach, opposite Tony’s supermarket) do brilliant cocktails and have a happy hour from 7-9pm (E3!). The next place up from Lee’s by the beach do excellent souvlaki pittas for E1.70 and big beers for E2, so it’s good for a lazy lunch.
The Lindos Pines does occasionally live up to its Fawlty Towers reputation, but it doesn’t actually have any real problems and if you are chilled out then you will probably have a great holiday in Pefkos at the Lindos Pines, we did!
