Brilliant location, 5 mins from Main Street and 10 mins from Maggie Bar at the base of Peak 9. Local supermarket is only 2 mins walk. Ski shuttle bus stop 15 seconds walk from front door!
Crystal provided two hosts (it increased to 4 by the end of the 10 days we stayed) who after a tentative start developed into a great team. Food for the adults was excellent, freshly prepared and imaginative. Food for the kids proved more of a challenge. At first the hosts servd the kids the same as the adults leading to a copious waste. After a quick chat they soon adpated the menu to suit the kids taste (about 8 kids ranging from 9 to 16!).
The chalet itself was comfortable and suited the party well. Ski storage on ground floor, dining room / living room on 1st floor and a further small chill out area for the kids on 2nd floor. The bedrooms were on ground, first and second floors and were Ok & confortable if not luxurious - still, we didnt spend too much time in ours anyway.
The chalet was advertised as one of Crystal's "Finest" accoms. It's interesting to see that for 2008/9 season it's now not a "Finest". The decor was outdated, many fittings were loose or broken - in general there was a lack of maintentance all over the chalet. the fridge broke down as did one of the ovens. I've just accepted a refund offer of £700 due to a leak that came into our bedroom from the dishwasher/sink on the 1st floor. I repoted it on our first day, but it still wasn't sorted by day 10 when we left! Poor service from Crystal - I expected better as regular customers. Thankfully, the resort, the hosts and our party meant this was an irritation rather than spoiling our stay in Breckenridge.
I rated the Chalet as a 6 / 10 due to the location, the overall view of the accommodation (it felt like a home from home - decor and dodgy fittings excepted!), and the hosts were great, however, I felt it was over priced given it's state. By comparison the (cheaper) Jefferson well very well appointed although it was a further 10 mins walk away from ski lifts etc but ski shuttle stop very close by. I'd rate as an 8 if the decor/fittings were up to standard.
Breckenridge the ski resort was excellent. Great service, kids well catered for and the skiing (and lessons) out of this world with no queues. Northstar aside, I felt we got what we paid for - it wasn't a cheap holiday! - but it was worth it. Would recommend the resort and the chalet (as long as the chalet underwent a refurb!).
