We have stayed in Vilabranca a number of times over the last few years. Cleanliness was poor this time. The cleaning staff has been cut and cleaning does not appear to be checked. The staff are fab and will do anything for you. Please do something to inprove cleaning. I could not recommend as things are. more

Just come back from Vilabranca Apartments in Lagos, Portugal with the family. As first timers to Portugal we were not sure what to expect, apart from reading a few reviews of the apartments we didn't do too much research on the resort (mistake I know!). We had a one... more

Great apartments highly recommended. Very large and well equipped. Staff very friendly. 20 min walk to Lagos town. Only drawback was that our 3 boys 10, 11 and 14 got a bit bored as not much to do around the apartments during the day. Great restaurants in the town all very... more

These apartments are modern, clean, and spacious. The maid service is prompt and discreet, the restaurant and pool bar staff polite and efficient, and the reception staff were very helpful. The two pools are large and clean, and the sunbeds were washed frequently... more

A wonderful week at Vilabranca
We have just returned from our first visit to Vilabranca, and it completely lived up to its reputation. Excellent, clean, spacious apartment with a small balcony. A very efficient air conditioning system, which was greatly appreciated with temperatures in the mid to late thirties! Really enjoyed the pool, open from 8am to 8pm, and never too crowded, even in the middle of the day. Nice little shallow pool for kids too. There is a small supermarket at the gates of the complex which provided everything we needed for breakfast. In the evenings we usually walked into the old town for a meal (10-15 mins), and then got a taxi back up the hill again. Plenty of excellent places to eat, lots around the main streets of the old town where you can indulge in great people-watching, and some hidden treasures that we located thanks to the free map provided by Vilbranca. Wonderful food (excellent selection of fresh fish) and wine. Enjoyed the odd glass of vinho verde in the afternoon too - such a refreshing drink on a hot day. There's a great German bakery too (also on the free map) for a mid-morning coffee and some divine cake. We were there for a really relaxing week, and never felt the need to hire a car and go further afield (although we may have done if we had been staying longer). Apart from a trip to one of the gorgeous beaches and a boat trip to see dolphins (no dolphins, but the boat trip was thrilling anyway), there was plenty in Lagos itself to keep us entertained. I would thoroughly recommend Vilabranca Apartments if you want a peaceful and relaxing holiday - we found the whole experience to be stress-free and both felt about ten years younger coming home than we did when we arrived.
Perfect self catering appartments
I stayed here in June '06 with 2 friends for one week. We wanted a laid back self catering appartment and this place was perfect. When we initially arrived we were put into one appartment where we unfortunately found a mouse in the kitchen. This isn't that supprising given the gardens surrounding the complex. We were moved to a new appartment without question and throughout our stay the whole place was kept spotlessly clean (there are cleaners who come in on a daily basis.) This certainly wouldn't put me off staying here again. Our appartment had one bedroom with twin beds and lots of storage space, and a camp bed in the living room (apparently comfortable). Presumably there are larger appartments for bigger groups. The appartment was very spacious with a big bathroom and lounge, a very well equipped kitchen and a nice sunny terrace with patio furniture. There are two nice swiming pools which were set into the gardens and surrounded by plenty of sun loungers. There is a bar in the complex but we didn't try it. Directly opposite the entrance to the complex is a small, well stocked grocers but for a bigger shop, a large supermarket was a 5 minute drive away. Vilabranca is an easy 15 minute walk outside the centry of Lagos in a residential part of town which might not suit everyone but it made it very peaceful. I could imagine that in the school holidays this place gets full of families as it would be perfect for children. However in June it was quiet and ideal for us (in our 20s). A car is essential. Lagos is a lively touristy town with lots of bars and restaurants but without the "Brits abroad" feel of other parts of the Algarve. There are plenty of extremely pretty, clean beaches nearby (both surfy and sheltered) and I would definitely return to this part of Portugal. And stay at the Vilabranca Appartments.
Brilliant - again.
We are just back from two weeks at the Vilabranca for the second year running. Having been so impressed with this place last year we naturally were a bit concerned that it wouldn't seem quite the same on return. We needn't have worried - everything was faultless. While last year we travelled through a tour company this year we booked independently and, apart from a heartstopping moment when it seemed our reservation had not been recorded (after a couple of emails this was sorted with the minimum of fuss), everything was faultless. Our two-bedroomed apartment overlooked one of the pools - just as we had requested; the cleanliness of the entire property including all the common areas is commendable; all of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful; and best of all, the children - at 15 and 12 years old typically hard to please - couldn't be prised away from the complex! This is a totally family orientated place - and seems to appeal to all ages. There is a little bit of entertainment in the bar a couple of nights a week (karaoke/bingo - mainly for the kids) and the place is compact enough for parents to be able to enjoy a drink while the children "hang out" with new friends. Also, because the Vilabranca is situated in a mainly residential area of Lagos - although 10 minutes walks you into the centre - there is little to disrupt a good night's sleep! We really could not say anything negative about the Vilabranca - and it speaks for itself the number of people staying over the same period as us who were there for the third and fourth time. We will hopefully make it a hat trick too!
Great apartments
Great apartments -could not fault them. Clean rooms and perfect location if you want to be near town but not in the middle of it all. Staff were very friendly and could not do enough to make our stay a memorable one. Will definitely go back to Vilabranca.
Fantastic Relaxation
We are just back from a week in the Vilabranca Apartments - which was fantastic. Cannot fault any part of it. .The staff were fantastic and worked very hard. The apartment was fine, kept very clean, as was the whole complex. Will definitely go back, the sooner the better.
"Great"
Stayed here for 2 weeks and coudn't fault it once. I have been to the Algarve 5 times and this is the best accommodation I've stayed in by far.
Great apartments
We stayed at the Vilabranca Apartments in June 2006 and were delighted with the cleanliness and the wonderful facilities. We have two young children and they enjoyed the children's pool in the "blue block" immensely. We were pleasantly surprised that we also got a sea view having booked direct and hinting we would like one! The apartments were in a good location, just ten minutes walk downhill into the old walled city. Would recommend to anyone that wants a family friendly place to stay. We also appreciated the internet in reception as we got to watch our friends wedding online.
lovely apartments, very family orientated
We've just come back from a 10 day stay at Vilibranca Apartments. There is no question that the apartments there are lovely. The one we stayed at (towards the edge of the complex) was bigger than our one bedroom flat in London. Just a couple of negative comments though - there is a 5 day a week maid service at the apartments. During our 10 day stay, although the towels were replaced and beds made, our apartment wasn't swept so it got quite dirty towards the end of our stay. I tried doing this myself using the brush provided but not very effective. I guess we could have complained but didn't. Also, the water heating system does not provide hot water all of the time. It is a tank which reheats water, so once the tank has been emptied of hot water, you have to wait until the water is re-heated to get more hot water. As my husband loves long showers, there were a couple of times when I had to have cold showers! Towards the end of the stay we could also hear some building works at the back of the apartments when using the balcony (which was more of a patio area). This might not affect people staying more centrally in the complex (around the pool area). With regards to the location of Vilabranca Apartments, you could probably stay there most days if you wanted, and venture into the towns at night. We usually walked into town in the evening (downhill!) and got a taxi back afterwards (uphill). Taxi's were very reasonable (4 euro's). We tried the Chinese at the bottom of the road near to Vilibranca Apartments and that was lovely. Having said all this, we loved our stay in Lagos. The people there are extremely friendly and that made our holiday. The food was an excellent price and quality and portions generous. We went on a dolphin safari twice, but no dolphins as sea conditions weren't rights, which was a bit of a dissapointment. One word of warning to ladies - take sensible shoes with you as you will end up doing a lot of walking!!
Best we've ever stayed in
We stayed in Villabranca May 2006. This is without question the best apartments we have stayed in, in many a long year. The apartments are spotless, up to date with proper kitchen, full size cooker, fridge/freezer, gas powered hot water, stainless steel pots/pans. Our studio had an ensuite bath. The lounge had comfortable settee and armchairs, TV with Portugese/English/German channels at no extra cost. The terrace was provided with table, chairs, parasol and sunloungers. The staff are wonderful, cheerful and nothing too much trouble. The apartments are located at the top of a goodly climb up from town or beach but they do have a courtesy bus. Just across the road from the complex entrance is a little pizzeria called Penguim where they serve good food and drinks at very good prices - the locals go there. The town of Lagos is a delight. Would we go again? Oh yes.
A lovely stay
Stayed for 4 nights last week with my wife and wished we could have been there for a couple of weeks. The appartments are really well looked after and it would be hard to think of anything that could be improved within the complex itself. The staff were really helpful too, when we realised my wife had left her mobile at our previous hotel, they helped us contact the owners and then translated a thankyou letter. Would thoroughly reccomend Vilabranca to anyone who wants a nice peaceful holiday.
