Vilabranca Apartments Reviews
" Just come back from Vilabranca... "
Submitted By: Mr S Noad
Just come back from Vilabranca Apartments in Lagos, Portugal with the family. As first timers to Portugal we were not sure what to expect, apart from reading a few reviews of the apartments we didn't do too much research on the resort (mistake I know!). We had a one bedroom/bath-roomed apartment and it was well equipped, large rooms, very clean and maid service most days. Two nice sized pools that were a bit on the cold side and watch out for the ‘rip off’ prices for soft drinks poolside (2.3 Euro for a tin of 7Up) and the notices saying no food or drink from outside to be brought in – didn’t seem to stop most people though!
There is a small restaurant and bar in the complex, only used this once on the first night - menu somewhat limited, bit expensive and poor quality food. Many great local restaurants in Lagos town and a few en route and all provided far better value.
Taxis are quite cheap if you don’t fancy the walk home from town with fares varying between 3.8 and 4.7 euros but the apartments provide a courtesy bus three or four times a day.
Many things to see and do in the area including the dolphin safaris (shop about the touts on the riverside particularly if last minute and you will get a better deal – then just hang on for a fast boat ride and the dolphins were non stop once offshore), great beaches (closest was just past the fire station near the old harbour), local zoo (taxi or car needed though), grotto and cave boat trips and all the other usual excursions you would expect from a resort holiday.
Had a wonderful time and the weather was pleasantly warm for October, up to 27c, locals all very friendly, no time-share or holiday club scams noticed and we would definitely have no trouble recommending the resort or apartments.

Great apartments highly recommended. Very large and well equipped. Staff very friendly. 20 min walk to Lagos town.
Only drawback was that our 3 boys 10, 11 and 14 got a bit bored as not much to do around the apartments during the day.
Great restaurants in the town all very cheap. We like OS Doutoros, which is really cheap and has great fish dishes. Seems a lot of Portuguese holiday here and that’s why the prices are cheaper than other parts of the Algarve.
Don't miss a visit to slide & splash. It’s a great family day out.

" Just returned from one week at... "

Just returned from one week at Vilabranca (Family of four with two teenagers) and am already contemplating a return visit. The apartments are, as all other reviewers have commentated, spacious and clean.
We stayed in a two bedroom/ two bathroom apartment with a large living room and a balcony which extended the length of the apartment and was furnished with seating, a table and a parasol.
The public areas are carefully tended and all staff are pleasant and helpful. The mini bus is very convenient and ferries you to either the beach or the town at various times during the day and early evening. The bus driver is courteous and the service is free. Nevertheless, if you are obliged to take a taxi the fare is only 3 euro 80.
We booked Zoomarine at reception (a great day out, don't miss the 4D cinema or the clowns and do not be tempted to lug a picnic with you as the food is of a good standard and very reasonable).
A stay at the Vilabranca is a trouble free, relaxing holiday. We stayed by the smaller pool and the pool area is quiet (no music blasting from bar speakers) and the pool, the toilets and the poolside area is kept scrupulously clean.
Lagos is cobbled so walking in any kind of a heel is ill advised. If you want to eat where the Portuguese do I can recommend the 'Simply Lagos' website which is managed by a couple who own one of the apartments. Their recommendations complete with maps and lots of other interesting details of walks and trips, added to our enjoyment of an excellent holiday.

" These apartments are modern, clean,... "

These apartments are modern, clean, and spacious. The maid service is prompt and discreet, the restaurant and pool bar staff polite and efficient, and the reception staff were very helpful.
The two pools are large and clean, and the sunbeds were washed frequently (something I've never witnessed on a holiday before).
There is a supermarket almost directly across the road from the apartments which sells fresh bread and fruit amongst other things.
The location (in a residential area) means that the beach and town are a short walk away (maybe 15 minutes each - both downhill there and uphill back, not in the same direction as each other) but the apartments are very quiet which was lovely. Vilabranca lies on a courtesy bus to both the nearest beach and to the town about 4 times a day (each way).
Lagos itself has some delicious restaurants and plenty of bars to choose from. Although you are invited into bars and restaurants by staff they're never pushy. I must recommend the oven baked chicken piri-piri which was absolutely delicious. (Sorry can't remember the name of the restaurant I ate that in but it's a popular local dish so no doubt you'll find it).
I recommend both the resort and these apartments with only one word of warning; if you've never been to the Algarve before note that the wind that comes off the Atlantic is much stronger than you get in the Med and can make both sunbathing and paddling tricky on blustery days.

Our family of 4 had a fantastic, relaxing holiday in the Vilabranca in August 2006. The apartments were superb - really clean, comfortable, quiet. The staff at the reception desk were very friendly and helpful.
The cleaning staff were also excellent. I loved the whole layout of the apartment complex, especially the two pools which meant there was never over-crowding or a problem getting a sun-bed like in other places. Lagos itself was a lovely walk into town.
The walk home, uphill, could be a bit much but the taxi service is so cheap. I have been in the Algarve 4 times and I love it. We love the beaches and the Atlantic breeze but Lagos and the Vilabranca apartments has been our favourite place by far. Well done - top marks!

" Our third visit to these apartments... "

Our third visit to these apartments did not disappoint again. The clean spacious apartments, friendly staff and excellent restaurant ensure a restful holiday with all amenities close to hand.
The pleasant stroll into town (about 20 mins down hill) is rewarded with many shopping delights (for the women), narrow historic streets and many reasonably priced restaurants serving excellent local and international dishes. Excellent base for touring the Algarve and further inland.
Well done to Vilabranca management and staff.

Our family of 4 spent 2 weeks at Vilabranca and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The apartments are spotless and spacious. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen but necessary building work our 2 bed 2 bath apt was unavailable for the first 4 nights of our stay.

The owner manager was very apologetic and we were compensated not only with a monetary refund but also 2 days free car hire and invited to dine with him in the restaurant! (Oh, and we were given a large 1 bed apt until ours was ready) Despite this hiccup we were very impressed with the standard of the accommodation and the level of personal service. These apartments are great for families and not at all noisy at night. The pools are beautifully maintained as are the gardens .All in all, a great place to stay.
Our second visit to Lagos produced our first visit to the Vilabranca Apartments, which are one of the best quality apartments, we have stayed in. The apartments are situated in a residential area of Lagos about 10 - 15 minutes walk from the town centre.

Apartments are modern and spacious and the complex has 2 separate pool areas both serving good quality snacks throughout the day. On site there is an a la carte restaurant, which for some reason we did not try. All the staff are friendly and helpful - the maids were excellent !

The complex runs a bus down the town and Praia Mos beach during the day There is a small local supermarket 50 m away from the complex and a large ‘tesco ‘ type supermarket 3 minutes away by car approximately 5 minutes walk on the tulip rounabout there is a group of good quality restaurants especially O’Piratas. Lagos itself is superb - not too much commercial tourism but good quality restaurants.

This was one of the best holidays we have been on - this coming from a person who has lived and breathed Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife for the past 20 years - 3x a year.

The 2 bed apartments are very spacious and clean. The master bedroom especially big. Both times we had a balcony looking over the pool which was very pleasant
There are two pools an older one and a new one which has a bar. The new one is salt water and we found was quite cold. We preferred the old pool near the resturant, and kept us entertained with playing games of pool. The sign says no drinks or food and no inflatables but people ignore it and the staff shouldn't say anything to you.
The restuarant is quite over priced but is ok for drinks, snacks and icecreams but wouldn't recommend for meals. The resturants in lagos are great - i would recommend the dutch resturant which is down a little alley , it is quite expensive but is worth it because the food is delicious.
Staff very freindly and there is a minibus which is free and will run you down to the town or the beach and then back again. Although goes quite early in the evening. There is a couple of small supermarkets across the road from the apartments which we used to stock up on things and then a larger supermarket nearer the town- pingo.
Both times we booked a visit to Slide and Splash which is a massive water park and is a brilliant day out and far better then any other attraction in algarve.
I would fully recommend hiring a car, it makes life so much more easier on holiday- pick it up at the airport and then you don't have to get a taxi back. Visiting the big supermarket with a car is so much better as you don't have to keep going back and forth to the shops. It is also good if you want to visit attractions or the beach. They have a car park so it is easy to park it.
Overall this apartment is a brilliant retreat, recommend it to everyone. Lagos is a brilliant town and i would be very willing to go back for the third time.
