Ballycotton is a stunning fishing village in Co. Cork, Ireland which is one of the rare places in scenic East Cork which has kept its rustic character and has not been overdeveloped and shows no signs of doing so. Although that is not to say that its beauty is not known about far and wide.
In fact, even Hollywood knows of its understated albeit alluring quality. 'Divine Rapture' was filmed there in the mid 90s. Starring none other than Johnny Depp and Marlon Brando, the majority of the film was shot (until it went bust) in Ballycoton. A cinematographer's dream, the landscape is both breathtaking and often unforgiving but never forgettable.
The fine seafood restaurants (with the world-renowned Ballymaloe close by) sit snugly between buzzing pubs and pottery craft shops. A place where more is definitely less.
