Weeley Bridge Holiday Park

We had such a brilliant time at Weeley Bridge.We stayed in a lovely gold caravan complete with ensuite. The site was clean and well laid out. The children enjoyed the pool and the play park. The pool was small, but quite adequate for our needs and it was good to have a life guard on duty. The children loved the entertainment; there was always something being organised for them. There was also family entertainment every night at the club house. Weeley Bridge is a small and quiet site, but it gave us the opportunity to have a thoroughly relaxing holiday.
There is a train station just outside the park which runs a service into Clacton and Colchester. A local baker and grocer are also within walking distance of the site.

After reading the reviews about Weeley Bridge I wasn't really looking forward to my holiday but I can honestly say we really enjoyed the holiday. We booked 2 x 12ft silver caravans as there was 13 of us althogether (childrens ages ranged from 2 - 10yrs). The caravans we're very clean and one of them even had a decked area outside which was very useful. The site itself is absolutely beautiful with lots of grass, trees and a fishing lake. We went in half term holidays and the entertainment was ok (school holiday time is supposed to be the best entertainment). Not much for the really young children to do but there was a disco on every evening for an hour and there was supposed to be other activities for the older children but when 1 of our group went he was told it wasn't on that day so we didn't bother going any other day.It is only a small site so there wasnt always enough children turning up for the events. The play park, although small, was well looked after and my 2yr old daughter loved it (not really good enough for older children to play on though). We only went to the show bar twice and the comedian was excellent. The heated outdoor pool (when working) is nice and they make sure there isnt too many people in the pool. The site is nextdoor to a railway station which is very handy for visiting the nearby towns. Everybody had told me that there wasnt much to do in Clacton on Sea but I have to disagree. Theres the beach, a fairground, golf, shops, places to eat and its all very clean. The site may be too quiet for some people but I enjoyed the quietness. I have visited busy sites before and I much prefere Weeley Bridge. The only down side were the staff. The bar staff didnt smile, were very rude and insisted on seeing your pass every time you bought a drink even if the recognised you. The reception staff, although friendly, weren't very helpful, didnt have much knowledge of the local area and appeared to be a bit dizzy but none of this bothered us too much. I would definately recommend this site and going as a group (even just 2 couples with kids) makes it more enjoyable.

On the plus side, the staff were friendly and the site is picturesque.
On the downside, the security on the site is a joke, we were issued with club passes that were never checked, and the barrier onto the site was left raised.
In the evening it was difficult to park near to the caravan due to locals parking on the site to use the club.
The caravan was nice but the bed was unstable, the toilet seat was broken and the lock on the shower room had fell off, there was a repair helpline but I couldn't be bothered, I was on holiday and didn't want to be hassled.

We had a great holiday at Weeley, I took my 3 boys with me ages 11,14,19yrs.
We were made to feel very welcome on arrival,the platinum caravan we stayed in was lovely.
The fishing lake and the people staying in caravans were great. Will definitely go there again, peaceful at night and the only thing that let the site down was that it had no shop on the site, but there was one just outside the site.

What a letdown! We were really looking forward to our break, but were sorely disappointed.
There wasn't anything for the children to do (our children are 1, 7 and 14), the unheated outdoor swimming pool was closed and there weren't any changing rooms.
There is a 'clubhouse' if you can call it that, a large smoke filled room, reminiscent of a working mans club, with one pool table. There was no entertainment in the evenings, other than a game of bingo.
The small play area is designed for children 6+ and with just a climbing frame, kept them occupied for about 10 minutes.
There isn't a shop, or anywhere within walking distance to get a pint of milk.
On the plus side, the park itself is pretty, there's a nice little lake, and there are lots of ducks roaming around the caravan park waiting to be fed!
If you need to do any washing the small launderette is good value. There's also a large Tesco and a Morrison’s 10-15 minutes drive away if you need shopping.
Personally, I would not return to this park, and would not recommend it anyone else.
