We were very disappointed with the hotel, especially the air conditioning. There wasn't a cool spot to be found anywhere in the hotel. The room was dated and in need of updating. On arrival we requested a change of bed spreads as they were stained. It was difficult to sleep... more

Just returned from the Seashells resort. It is so dated & desperately needs modernising. We were lucky because we were warned to upgrade to a room in the Presidential Suite, which was lovely. Otherwise, the room we had previously been given, only had a window. The food was... more

Hated the Suncrest Hotel but at least the Pool area was good.
I went to this hotel at the end of October 2006. Like the rest of you I went with an open mind as there are mixed reports about this hotel. I am going to sum up this hotel for you in three parts - Do not be fooled by other reviews into thinking this hotel is good - it is not. 1. The Good The pool area is very good catering for all ages. The slide area is an added bonus and keeps the kids entertained for hours. I was disappointed that the pool bar was never open when I was there, however there is a bar just outside the pool and the staff there were very friendly. It is also right next to the sea and good for snorkelling and jet skiing. The entrance to the hotel is very nice with marbel floors. The majority of staff are quite friendly but there are some who are not. One maid even said hello "Luke" to my son on the second day which brought a warm smile to my face. However, that's it, there is nothing else good about this hotel. 2. The Bad We arrived at 12pm but could not book in to our rooms until 3pm. We therefore had to wait around for 3 hours - I have never experienced this before on a package hotel. This was mentioned in the brochure given to us, however they did not mention we would be booked in by a femal member of staff on Reception with an attitude problem. We were incorrectly booked in (a family of 22 people) as B&B despite us paying for Half Board. We politely tried to explain this to her but she assumed we were lying and got all funny with us. The other reception staff were helpful though. The food is as bad as everyone else has mentioned in these reviews. Trust me its terrible for a 4 star hotel - the choice is very poor with a chocie of 1 fish and 2 meats but you normally one have 1 or 2 vegetables. It seems to be catered for the German population. I mean who has sweetcorn with porridge in the morning !! Breakfast is edible but the sausages are grim. The Toaster - There is only one toaster that toasts one side of bread at a time - queues build up and you end up dealing with TOASTER RAGE by other nationalities who think they can just barge you out the way and do not understand what a queue is !! The lifts - 6 different members of my family got stuck for about 20 mins. Sometimes they would not stop on certain floors - everyone was complaining about them. The hotel needs a good clean - the bottom of the stairs were awful and our sheets, whilst changed, were still dirty. The restaurant area is not catered for children and the kids club was not open out of season. The pool tables were out of order and lots of other stuff is run down. The Ugly: We were celebrating my mother and fathers 50th wedding anniversary and we asked the restaurant staff (2 days before the actual day) if they would put together some tables so we could all have brekafast together just for one day. The answer was 'No' as they did not have the time to do it. Trust me it only takes a few mins to move the tables together. The restaurant supervisor does not understand customer care one bit. Eventually we complained to our rep about it and he said the restuarant staff were talking nonsense and he would sort it. Later he confirmed it would be sorted but when we turned up in the morning for breakfast nothing had been done. The really annoying thing is that they had one large table set aside for the German population but we were not allowed to use it. This bordered on racism !! OVERALL I paid £1300 for 2 adults and 2 children (aged 4&2) for 1 week. I got very poor value for money - Avoid this hotel unless you pick up a real bargain and are happy to eat out every night. If it was not for the pool area I would have asked to be moved. 4 star? no way !!
It needs alot of money spending on it.
We were lucky. My parents have a timeshare on the top floor of the hotel so had a private balcony and jacuzzi. This hotel could do with a good clean.. Dont get me wrong. The rooms are clean however it has aged alot. Only 2 lifts worked and so a journey back to the room could take 10 minutes at a meal time. The food served in the hotel was very poor and the staff although well meaning were useless. To me the suncrest pretends to be a 4 star hotel but falls very short of the mark
Hated The Suncrest 2* Not 4*
We arived at the Suncrest with an open mind after reading the mixed reviews. The hotel is a 4* Maltese rating so I was not expecting a British equivelent. What I was not expecting was a shabby, worn and extremely dated hotel. We had paid an EXTRA £143 for a weeks sea view room and were given a room on the side of the hotel. The room was very dated and shabby. The bathroom was mouldy and the enamel was worn off on the bath. The ceiling fan made so much noise I thought it was going to fall down. The electrics were dangerous with taped wire and a socket hanging off the wall. The door had been broken in to at some point and the lock was slightly smashed and did not look safe. One of the beds was a fold up matress and was like sleeping on a z bed. Breakfast was a nightmare, you have to queue for juice then again for coffee and again for toast and for any cold or hot food. It was also very noisy. If you want to enjoy your holiday do not stay here. The rep was not suprised we wanted to move. We met other people in Malta who after reading these reviews changed hotels before leaving the U.K and others that knew the hotel had a bad reputation.
loved it
the hotel is well nice. the staff are realy friendly and gawjus like matt ,n tony who worked at reception and dwayne who works by the pool. the view from the room was lovely and it was good night life like reflections in the hotel the dj was lovely and always put our english music on for us and fuegos witch is right near the hotel that was realy good to. lots of good looking maltese boys. Also the wine bar located opposite the the hotel a gawjus boy named stefan works there. i would defenitatly reccomend the suncrest hotel and malta i love it there and espically pacevilles for a night out!!! im def gona go back there next year and hope 2 c every 1 i met out therex
Well worth the money!
I booked on line with a travel agent and got a super half board deal. The room were a bit dated but they were clean and had air con. The pool area was good and the bar in the pool is a nice touch. My children loved the waterslide and there are many water sports to take part in near by. The bus stop is right out side the hotel so going to anywhere on the island was easy. There is a rocjy beach near by and the nearst sandy beach is a short bus ride away! The buses are a must! The hotel has many different resturants so your not restricted to using the same one for dinner which makes a nice change. Don't believe the bad reviews....the suncrest is a must, and we will be going back!
Great Family Holiday
stayed in the suncrest hotel for 10 days and what a fantastic stay, yes rooms were a bit dated but perfectly functional. We travelled as a family of 4 with children of 10 and 3. The food for breakfast was good, as was evening meals ( even being able to go to the pizza restaurent and getting discount of LM3.50 for each adult and LM1.25 for each child as we were staying half board at the hotel ). The staff at the hotel were always polite and courteuous from the cleaner to the animation team, the reception staff were very helpfull in organising a buggy for our youngest who decided after a day in the pool walking in the evening was a no no. Satelitte TV in the rooms, Air con in the rooms even a fridge that worked, 5 out of 6 lifts each day were working but as to be expected when the hotel is full they were busy. Yes we had students staying mainly French who seemed to vacate the hotel by 9am in the morning never to be seen or heard from again until same time next morning. loved the island ( our first visit ) loved the people, found the area family orientated ( pleanty of bars behind the hotel towards Bugibba). Already decided to go back next year this time for 14 days. Fantastic time - advice book independant - hotel and flight - saved over £600 on what others had paid to stay.
V disapointed with this 4 star hotel
We have just got home after staying at the Suncrest and have just read other reviews for this hotel for the same time last year. One thing, loads and loads and loads of foreign loud students who took over the whole hote. We are both in our 20's and like to have fun but there was just to many!!!! Also it was a 10 minute wait every time to use the lift. We also have to agree that the interior in the rooms have not been updated since it opened and the reception staff were rude and unhelpful but other staff were great. I would not recocommend this Hotel and do not think it deserves a 4 star rating
Could do better
Having visted this hotel in September 2005 and found a few problems which, if corrected, would have improved it substantially, we, a party of 4, re-visited in in June 2006. Graded 4 star the hotel is in dire need of updating. The rooms are basic but adequate but don't seem to have been re-decorated since the hotel opened in 1988. The toilets are difficult to flush and unfortunately in the public toilets no one seems to bother even trying and consequently they are permanently clogged. The televisions in the rooms only show 4 or so watchable channels and one of those, Eurosport didn't have any sound. As we were visiting during the first phase of the World Cup the Hotel had a large screen showing all matches 3pm, 6pm and 9pm, not that too many of the guests watched. During this time the Pavillion Restaurant was closed to guests and they had to eat in the Il Tokk downstairs, much smaller, and outside at the Sun and Surf - consequently either the guests baked in the heat or the food was cold by the time you reached a table - evening meal was divided into 2 sittings - making life difficult for guests and staff alike - prompted we were informed by an influx of international students who were attending a local language school and who were contracted to stay in the hotel throughout the summer and had to have the sole use of an indoor restaurant. Many of the lifts (8) were permanently out of order, some never moved from one floor for 14 consecutive days whilst others refused to stop at the required floor (level -1 for the Il Took and Sun and Surf) meaning guests had to walk down a flight of stairs, not easy for a lot of those staying there as many were elderly with heart/leg problems. A wait of 10-15 minutes was not unusual. We were informed that the lifts didn't work when it was busy! Actually they didn't work at any time. However, it has to be said that the staff, chambermaids and waiters and waitresses were friendly and helpful despite their own difficulties. Reports of maintenance problems were promptly dealt with - a broken toilet handle, a broken key and toilet seat. Replacement of towels and bathmats was haphazard - trouble at the laundry - we were told. The food is adequate but hardly exciting, no one seemed able to use the toasters at breakfast heralding a long queue and either not done or burnt offerings. The evening meals were spoiled by undercooked vegetables and occasional poor quality meat although the variety of starters and desserts was good. The hotel has a very large swimming pool and children's facilities. The closure after the first week of inside bar was surprising and disappointing since this meant either sitting outside in the Sun and Surf (though not on a Saturday unless you get there early) or inside in Le Cascade (and watching the football). For a 4 star hotel this lack of choice is surprising and a late night arrival (1.15am) meant there was no refreshment facilities available - a cup of tea would have been nice - and there are no facilities laid on in the rooms. A large and impersonal hotel but with a friendly, hard-working staff, it really ought to be able to do better -
check the real star rating, not the package tour rating
Hotel was sold by travel agent as 4 star, it was rated by My travel as a 4 star. It was a 3 or 3 and a half star. We insisted on having air conditioning only to find hotel does not switch it on until later in the year. Some days were 37 degrees. Complained to hotel and my travel rep who kept saying it wasnt in the contract (whatever that means)' and the reception told us it wasnt hot!!!! We were told not to drink the water in the hotel but we had to buy water. When we arrived near midnight, there was no drinkable water in the room, there was no coffee and tea making facilities. The rep told us to walk up the hill and buy water at the supermarket. Some of the people on tour were 80 plus and this was midnight.. If you go there, ask for kettle and cups for your room, they will deliver and charge but you get it back when you leave. The ice box in the room is not sufficient to keep the milk cold. The bus service is excellent and you can do most things without going on tours with the bus. Malta is full of touters selling timeshare, usually English and they promised you the world just to get you into their 3 hour sales pitch. We were concerned about the stray cats and kept taking food for them. Malta was extremely dusty and full of either car or rubbish pollution. We would not return to this hotel or to Malta.
Enjoyed the Suncrest
Stayed at the Suncrest at the beginning of May. Hotel was busy but not too crowded. Seems as though the Dining Room can only cope by having two sittings in the evening though. This is not surprising considering the number of rooms relative to the size of the Dining Room. There were two restaurants open for the breakfasts, so no problem there. Apart from that small irritation (of having to decide at breakfast every day whether to dine at 6.pm. or after 8pm, and slightly officious staff at Dining reception) everything else was fine. Problem with the shower on arrival was fixed the next day. Room and bathroom cleaned every day, staff friendly - including at Hotel Reception. Much better than expected based on reviews previously read.
