The reception area and staff are very...

Aug 2007, Mr T Byrne

The reception area and staff are very nice, rooms were very clean but dated. The lifts very slow and broke down once with myself and daughter in it.
The food was nice, with plenty of choice. We were the only ones to get off of the Malta Bargains bus everyone else stayed at Venus and the Palm Court. We did not see a rep all week and had to go to their office to find out what time we would be collected for home journey and this was very vague. Although the office is a two min walk we felt we should not have to go and find out, this should have been information we were given.
We went into Malta Bargains other hotel the Palm Court to find rep. All I can say is if I had been staying there I would have burst into tears and left on the next flight home after just seeing the dirty dark smelly reception area.

Malta is a lovely place, very friendly people. We would certainly go back to Malta, buses run on time and are cheap, get a day ticket it cheaper and you can travel all over the island all day long.

Jul 2007, Miss L Chil

First time I’ve been to Malta and I thought it was wonderful. The hotel was great, no noise and the rooms with air-con, the bed was perfect and could get a good night sleep, but the rooms could do with updating. The hotel itsself was o.k. When we visited some of the lifts were out of order and kept breaking down or took ages to come and was quicker to take the stairs. The breakfast was a buffet style and was o.k.
The hotel itself is right next to the beach, sea and shops so there should be no excuse for not going to the beach and getting a tan. The weather when we went was great but there was a breeze so it didn’t feel hot, but don't be fooled always wear sun cream. The range of bars and clubs around there was great, a whole range of choice and with the bus stop 10 minutes walk from hotel you could go to another part of Malta easily.
Overall this hotel was GREAT!

We stayed at the Suncrest Hotel...
3 / 10
Jul 2007, Mrs A Sciberras

We stayed at the Suncrest Hotel Buggiba in July 07. We decided to return to this hotel after staying there in February 06.
We enjoyed the hotel on our February stay although refurbishment was required. We looked beyond that, because the food was of good quality and choice, staff friendly and helpful and a central location.
We decided to return mainly for the pool which overlooks the sea area, which is hard to find in a four star hotel in Malta. However on our return we were very disappointed with the swimming pool and the area around, which was never cleaned.
Rubbish was visible from the day before. Due to this we decided to swim in the sea.
The restaurant area was outside the hotel. It is advertised four restaurants are available but only one is of use. Due to being outside, flies were invading the food which was left out on display. Choice of food was basic with little alternative.
Due to this we will not be returning to this hotel again. Knowing Malta very well, this hotel was one of the best on the Island when first built.
It’s a shame it is now one of the worst in my opinion. It appears from staying there that in a year or two it will be only fit for the students who travel there in groups for a holiday, who like nightlife and somewhere to put their head down.
It is certainly not for couples and the normal British holidaymaker.

We found the Hotel to be heavily...
4 / 10
Jul 2007, Mr B Charman

We found the Hotel to be heavily booked with what seemed like bus loads of Teenagers on a two week "educational" trip. The noise late at nights caused by them whistling and shouting to each other across balconies and congregating in the reception areas was totally unacceptable for what purports to be a Four Star Hotel.
The food quality was adequate however trying to get a drink ordered with the evening meal was pure pot luck, although most were doing their best we felt there were far too many inexperienced young Staff thrown in the deep end. Although half board, we ate out 50% of the time.
The overall standard of the room was clean but dated the air conditioning was noisy and had to be turned off at night (although turned back on to drown out the noisy teenagers!)
This was not what I expected from a Four Star hotel in this area. Will not use it again.

The Suncrest Hotel is good for its...

Nov 2006, Mr M. P.

The Suncrest Hotel is good for its convenient location and pool, yet it has definitely seen better days. My wife and I were quite satisfied with the personnel and room. We were luckily on the second floor because the elevators were slow and one elevator was out of order for nearly the entire week of our stay.
Full sea views were neither an option with our package deal, nor did the partial sea
view we had cost extra. This was a plus. There was no traffic noise from our location.
We only ate breakfast at the hotel, but from this experience alone a half or full pension would probably be ill-advised. The food was only fair and a couple of choices like the muesli and marmalade were a joke. There was always a queue at the coffee machines because one of the two was always empty or not working. If food is an important part of your holiday experience, one might even want choose a hotel in a different city. Coincidence or not, all of our best meals were outside of the Bugibba area. We can highly recommend the excellent Barracuda restaurant on 194/195 Main Street in St. Julians. It is expensive but worth it.
Weighing the positive and negative, I’d give the Suncrest Hotel a 3 rating when
compared with other hotels I’ve experienced in southern Europe. Our tour operator
gave it a 3+, which is a bit of a stretch. Anyone that rates this a 4 would be guilty of
false advertising.

We upgraded to this hotel from...
5 / 10
Jun 2006, Miss F Dobbin

We upgraded to this hotel from another. I would say it is a 4* due to size but a 3* for everything else. To us it was luxury from what we originally had - and believe me anything would have been.
The facilities where good - I thought the pool area was nice but does get crowded as they open it to the public. Entertainment around the pool needs to be looked at as they do the same things everyday so can get a bit boring. Not that we used the pool a lot as we wanted to sight see.
Food - well the first couple of days it was nice when it was in the restaurant upstairs but this changed when it moved downstairs. So did the service.
They had a group of Italian students helping for the week - well it was so obvious that they didn’t want to be there for work - only to sunbathe! They didn’t speak English. You had to wait awhile to be served drinks. We even ordered a bottle of wine. Got it but then had to wait 10mins before someone opened it!
Reception staff - where ok but at times felt like we where being a nuisance. Not always friendly.
Rooms - generally ok but aircon noisy and fan a little low.
Hotel is very dated and is in need for a facelift.
Bar downstairs - staff very friendly.
Best member of staff was a girl called Shana - always smiling and seemed to work really hard. If I lived there and was recruiting staff - would poach her to come work for me. She is a gem. Very helpful.
I did have a better time when we moved to here and area is a good stopping point and accessible to all other areas.
I guess overall Malta was an experience - different to what I had expected.
Would I return - maybe.

Suncrest Hotel is not a 4 star hotel....
2 / 10
Aug 2005, Mr CM Ptana

Suncrest Hotel is not a 4 star hotel.
Built in 1988 and never refurbished.
It is very dated, reception area is as hot as outside.
Bedroom: air con unit is very noisy, impossible to sleep at night. TV is tiny, old, and not safely fixed on stand. Room decor very dated.
Bathroom: toilet seat broken, mirror dirty and very old, shower curtain dirty and with a big hole, ceiling panels filthy, always towels missing, not enough toiletries.
Buffet: very plain at times, no natural juices for bf, fruits always same: apples and oranges! No pastries or croissants.
Pool: dirty and overcrowded, locals use it as pool club!
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: I cut my head on TV stand as it was placed above mini bar, no warning notice. Called reception, they asked me to get a doctor! Doctor came, charged me £30, hotel posed risk and yet took no responsibility. Hotel does NOT HAVE a FIRST AIDER! Staff very dismissive, rude. 4 stars??? Don’t think so, I have stayed in better 3 stars in Europe. ADVICE: if you have good taste, expect minimum standards of service and facilities, do not use this hotel.

Suncrest Hotel, Qawra - The weather...
5 / 10
Jul 2005, Miss B Doyle

Suncrest Hotel, Qawra - The weather was excellent although very hot but we expected same. The reception area is very spacious.
We were disappointed with the bathrooms - The bath was very old looking, rusty. The toilet didn’t flush properly.
We found the meals quite acceptable. Just one thing they could afford to buy - a toaster for the breakfasts. It didn’t pop and got stuck and burnt the bread if it wasn’t watched.
The pool was packed with people as it was peak season. We found the pool to be dirty. The area at the edge of the pool seemed very slippery and we were shocked that nobody had broken an ankle when we were there.
I liked the location of the hotel - 12-15 minutes of a walk from Buggiba Square which was nice at night when you could walk down to it.
We would definitely go back to Malta but not to this hotel.

Perfectly acceptable accommodation,...

Oct 2004, Miss C Stone

Perfectly acceptable accommodation, basic but fine. Slightly out of season was good as you could always get round the pool. Food was ok, nothing special, but quite edible! Weather was fab, and Captain Morgan’s cruises are a must.
Lots of bars/restaurants within walking distance.
Most visitors were somewhat older than we were - mainly over 60, but this made for a nice quiet relaxing holiday.

This was the worst hotel we have ever...

Sep 2004, Mrs r murphy

This was the worst hotel we have ever stayed at, room was damp and both beds were in need of repair, ripped sheets, badly stained mattress, old all over the grouting in bathroom, toilet stained, towel rail hailing off the wall , holes where something used to be, food was very basic, 1 choice of evening meal , we went half board for 1 week ,but paid to eat out for 6 nights. before we booked the holiday we read all the holiday guides at the travel agents and they give this hotel a glowing report.
I’m not sure when the hotel was last checked out, as these reports are very out of date, we spent £1000 for a week ,it was very disappointing, we choice a 'sol' hotel as we had stayed at very good one in Ibiza, which was prefect, sadly it was different story in Malta. On the plus side the staff are helpful and friendly. This hotel should not be sold as a 4 star in the U.K.

Jul 2004, Mrs S Smith

I cannot believe that clients of this hotel could rate it highly. It is by far the worst hotel that I have ever had the misfortune of spending a night in.
It is drab. tired and in drastic need of refurbishment and updating. The pool area was lethal and should carry a health warning. The water was dirty, as was the surrounding sunbathing area. Sun beds were threadbare, damaged and very limited in number. Sardines would have more room.
The ‘pavilion’ served some of the worst food that I had ever seen, beating Tunisia in the early 70’s.
Avoid the BBQ, it’s the first time my family have ever known me to say I couldn’t eat the food.
Our room was spacious however, our bath was rusting where the enamel had worn away and the shower didn’t work.
If you are used to four star hotels you will be disappointed. All holidaymakers and travellers deserve good basic amenities and this hotel misses them by far.
And NO I wouldn’t ever go back!

I truly enjoyed this hotel, yes it is...
7 / 10
May 2004, Miss J Moore

I truly enjoyed this hotel, yes it is dated, but it is looked after and the staff managed extremely well. even when there was a large international conference held there while we were staying in the hotel
The breakfasts cater for all nationalities, the food in the evening was a little plain, but very edible.
I was there out of season, so the pool wasn’t over crowded. the only disappointment was the lack of ease to reach a beach (i knew this before i booked) although golden bay is beautiful if you make an effort to go.
I would say the hotel is more suited to couples rather than families though, the pool is on the other side of the main road through a underpass that is part of the hotel, and the hotel just generally doesn’t feel child orientated. I, being childless, thought it was great!
Generally i found the entire stay very pleasing, the location is good, close to bars, and the central bus station which will take you anywhere for pennies (the bus trips on the local buses are entertainment in themselves!!)
I would hire a car next time, to get further a field, but for a first visit everywhere is accessible within about an hour on the bus.
And i agree CAPTAIN MORGAN'S CRUISE was a fantastic day out, well worth the money. (but take a jumper for the morning sail, it's a bit fresh!)
